Abstract

This study aims to describe the phubbing behavior among Senior High School students. Phubbing is the act of ignoring a conversation partner by focusing more on using a smartphone, which results in a decline in the quality of social interactions. This research was motivated by the widespread use of smartphones among students, which has the potential to shift their attention away from face-to-face communication. The research method used is descriptive quantitative, with the population consisting of all students of SMA Negeri 1 Padang, and a sample of 274 students selected using proportional simple random sampling. The research instrument was a phubbing behavior questionnaire developed based on four factors: nomophobia, interpersonal conflict, self-isolation, and problem acknowledgment. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics to determine categories and score distributions. The results showed that overall, students’ phubbing behavior was in the high category, with a mean percentage of 66.56%. The nomophobia factor had a mean percentage of 68.86% (high category), interpersonal conflict 72.77% (high category), self-isolation 58.02% (medium category), and problem acknowledgment 65.85% (medium category). These findings indicate that anxiety about being separated from smartphones and avoiding conflict are the dominant factors influencing students’ phubbing behavior. The conclusion of this study is that phubbing behavior among students of SMA Negeri 1 Padang is quite concerning because it affects the quality of students’ social relationships. Therefore, it is recommended that guidance and counseling teachers provide information services, individual counseling, and group counseling to increase students’ awareness, develop communication skills, and reduce smartphone dependency.

Abstract

Parental divorce is a critical life event that can significantly affect a child’s psychological development, particularly in terms of self-acceptance. This study aims to describe the level of self-acceptance among junior high school students who have experienced parental divorce, examined by the length of time since the divorce. Using a quantitative descriptive approach, the research involved 35 students of SMP Negeri 1 Sijunjung selected through total sampling. Data were collected using a self-acceptance scale adapted from previous studies and analyzed with descriptive statistics via JASP. Results indicate that most students demonstrate high (65.7%) or very high (8.6%) levels of self-acceptance, with a tendency for higher acceptance over longer periods since parental divorce. These findings highlight the role of consistent psychosocial support, cultural factors, and school-based counseling in fostering resilience and healthy self-acceptance in adolescents from divorced families.

Abstract

The urgency of improving the quality of Guidance and Counseling (BK) services demands accurate and holistic assessments, especially through the use of non-test instruments that are able to reveal students' affective, social, and psychological aspects. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of non-test instruments in counseling services based on a literature study of 30 national and international journal articles. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with a literature study approach, involving thematic analysis of publications from the last five years. The results show that non-test instruments, such as questionnaires, observations, interviews and sociometry, are effective in supporting a comprehensive understanding of students. However, their implementation still faces obstacles such as limited training and the lack of validated instruments. This study emphasizes the importance of strengthening the competence of counseling teachers and developing contextualized and standardized instruments. Future research is recommended to empirically evaluate the implementation of these instruments in schools.

Abstract

This research emphasizes the importance of assessing the process and outcomes of guidance and counseling to improve the quality of services in schools. Guidance and counseling (BK) services in schools play an important role in supporting students' overall development. Through a literature review approach, this research analyzes various evaluation models and practices applied in guidance and counseling programs. One of the models used is the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) Model, which is one of the prominent and comprehensive models for assessing each element of guidance and counseling services. The results showed that active involvement in the evaluation of guidance and counseling teachers greatly influenced the effectiveness of the program. Regular assessments not only discover the strengths and weaknesses of the program, but also provide useful feedback for teachers' professional development. In addition, evaluations that involve parents and the community can improve the responsiveness of services to students' needs, especially in the midst of social changes and challenges faced in the digital era or industrial revolution 4.0. The study also emphasizes how important it is to use technology when assessing guidance and counseling activities. This is because it can improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the program. Therefore, it is clear that assessment of guidance and counseling processes and outcomes is crucial to providing quality, responsive, and flexible educational services. With the awareness of the importance of continuous evaluation, it is expected that guidance and counseling practices will change positively, which will help students' academic and personal growth.
