Abstract

Social and emotional problems in students can have a significant impact on their academic development and psychological well-being. Comprehensive assessment of social-emotional aspects is essential in the context of modern education. This article discusses the use of non-test instruments as effective assessment tools to identify social and emotional problems in students. Through a review of current literature, the types, characteristics, advantages, and challenges of using non-test instruments such as observation, interviews, questionnaires, and reflective journals are explained. Implications for the role of teachers and counselors are also examined, with an emphasis on the importance of training and institutional support so that assessment can be carried out optimally. The results of the study indicate that non-test instruments can support a more humanistic holistic assessment approach that is responsive to students' needs. This article recommends the integration of social-emotional assessment into school policies and the improvement of educators' professional capacity as strategic steps in supporting students' sustainable social-emotional development.

Abstract

Siometry is a psychological measurement tool used to determine interpersonal relationships in small groups. In the digital era marked by rapid social and technological changes, the effectiveness of siometry needs to be re-examined. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of using siometry in identifying group dynamics, especially in the context of modern education and organizations. The method used is a literature study with a qualitative descriptive approach. The results of the study indicate that siometry remains relevant and effective in revealing social structures and individual relational preferences, especially when combined with digital technology such as interactive applications. However, some limitations arise related to bias in perception and interpretation of the results. In conclusion, siometry is still an effective tool for social mapping, with greater potential if integrated with modern technology.

The population consisted of 591 tenth and eleventh grade students at SMA Pertiwi 1 Padang in the 2024–2025 academic year, with a sample of 274 students selected using proportional random sampling. Data collection was conducted using a self-control instrument with a Likert scale model. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and two-way ANOVA with the assistance of SPSS version 27. The results of the study revealed that: (1) the average score of students’ time management in learning, based on gender and grade level, was in the good category, and (2) there were no significant differences or interactions between gender and grade level in explaining students’ time management. Abstract

This study aims to describe the phubbing behavior among Senior High School students. Phubbing is the act of ignoring a conversation partner by focusing more on using a smartphone, which results in a decline in the quality of social interactions. This research was motivated by the widespread use of smartphones among students, which has the potential to shift their attention away from face-to-face communication. The research method used is descriptive quantitative, with the population consisting of all students of SMA Negeri 1 Padang, and a sample of 274 students selected using proportional simple random sampling. The research instrument was a phubbing behavior questionnaire developed based on four factors: nomophobia, interpersonal conflict, self-isolation, and problem acknowledgment. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics to determine categories and score distributions. The results showed that overall, students’ phubbing behavior was in the high category, with a mean percentage of 66.56%. The nomophobia factor had a mean percentage of 68.86% (high category), interpersonal conflict 72.77% (high category), self-isolation 58.02% (medium category), and problem acknowledgment 65.85% (medium category). These findings indicate that anxiety about being separated from smartphones and avoiding conflict are the dominant factors influencing students’ phubbing behavior. The conclusion of this study is that phubbing behavior among students of SMA Negeri 1 Padang is quite concerning because it affects the quality of students’ social relationships. Therefore, it is recommended that guidance and counseling teachers provide information services, individual counseling, and group counseling to increase students’ awareness, develop communication skills, and reduce smartphone dependency.

Abstract

Parental divorce is a critical life event that can significantly affect a child’s psychological development, particularly in terms of self-acceptance. This study aims to describe the level of self-acceptance among junior high school students who have experienced parental divorce, examined by the length of time since the divorce. Using a quantitative descriptive approach, the research involved 35 students of SMP Negeri 1 Sijunjung selected through total sampling. Data were collected using a self-acceptance scale adapted from previous studies and analyzed with descriptive statistics via JASP. Results indicate that most students demonstrate high (65.7%) or very high (8.6%) levels of self-acceptance, with a tendency for higher acceptance over longer periods since parental divorce. These findings highlight the role of consistent psychosocial support, cultural factors, and school-based counseling in fostering resilience and healthy self-acceptance in adolescents from divorced families.

Abstract

The urgency of improving the quality of Guidance and Counseling (BK) services demands accurate and holistic assessments, especially through the use of non-test instruments that are able to reveal students' affective, social, and psychological aspects. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of non-test instruments in counseling services based on a literature study of 30 national and international journal articles. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with a literature study approach, involving thematic analysis of publications from the last five years. The results show that non-test instruments, such as questionnaires, observations, interviews and sociometry, are effective in supporting a comprehensive understanding of students. However, their implementation still faces obstacles such as limited training and the lack of validated instruments. This study emphasizes the importance of strengthening the competence of counseling teachers and developing contextualized and standardized instruments. Future research is recommended to empirically evaluate the implementation of these instruments in schools.
