Abstract

Effective mathematics learning is a significant challenge in improving students' understanding and skills in mathematical concepts. One exciting approach to enhancing mathematics education is Realistic Mathematics Education (RME), which emphasizes understanding mathematical concepts through real-world contexts. This research combines the RME approach with Augmented Reality (AR) technology to facilitate the learning of sequences and arithmetic series. This research aims to create a learning trajectory that can help students understand the concept of arithmetic sequences and series using the context of the Borobudur Temple in grade 8th of SMP Negeri 4 Semarang. This research uses a design research method which consists of three stages, namely preliminary design, design experiment (pilot experiment and teaching experiment), and retrospective analysis. In this research, a series of learning activities were designed and developed based on the RME approach. This research involved 6 grade 8th students. The result of this research is a learning trajectory that includes a series of learning processes in three activities, namely: 1) Observing Borobudur Temple videos to understand the definition and characteristics of sequences and series; 2) finding the formulas and results of sequences and series; 3) and solving contextual problems related to sequences and series. The activities carried out can help improve students' understanding of the sequences and arithmetic series material. The research results show that the context of the Borobudur Temple can help students understand the concept of sequences and arithmetic series. Apart from that, the results of this research add options for local wisdom that can be used as a context for mathematics learning, especially sequences, and arithmetic series.

Abstract

The study of cylindrical geometry is a fundamental component of mathematics education, yet many students face challenges in grasping the concepts of surface area and volume. To address this issue, it is imperative to design a structured learning trajectory that leverages innovative approaches and integrates suitable contextual elements with technological assistance. This study explores the implementation of Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) supported by animated videos and Adobe Animate, to facilitate understanding of these concepts. The research focuses on the design of instructional activities centered on the Semarang Nyadran tradition as a contextual framework. Employing a design research methodology, this study was conducted in three stages: preliminary design, design experimentation, and retrospective analysis. The participants were seventh-grade students at a state junior high school in Semarang. The resulting learning trajectory comprises four key activities: observing animated videos depicting the Nyadran tradition to identify cylindrical characteristics, determining the cylinder's surface area through cardboard modeling, calculating the cylinder's volume using styrofoam and 2D geometry formulae, and solving contextual problems related to cylindrical geometry. The incorporation of the Nyadran tradition, animated videos, and Adobe Animate provided a culturally relevant and technologically enriched learning experience, enhancing students' comprehension of cylindrical concepts and their ability to solve contextual problems effectively. This study highlights the potential of integrating local cultural wisdom and technology in mathematics education to create engaging, meaningful, and contextually grounded learning experiences. The findings offer insights for future research to explore other forms of local wisdom as entry points for teaching diverse mathematical topics in innovative and technology-integrated ways.

Abstract

Numerous studies, particularly in sphere material, have highlighted students' challenges in grasping the notion of geometry. Typically, the teacher only teaches the subject using the formula, omitting the notion altogether. Moreover, this study intends to create a hypothetical learning trajectory for the sphere material by incorporating the Syawalan tradition from Pekalongan into the learning process through the Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Education approach, or PMRI. The methodology employed is design research, divided into three stages: preliminary design, design experiment, and retrospective analysis. As a result, this study focuses exclusively on the outcomes of the design experiment process, namely the pilot experiment. Video recordings, photographs, observations, deep interviews, documentation, field memos, and student activity sheets were all used to collect and analyze data to improve HLT. The outcome of this study is a hypothetical learning trajectory for sphere material in the context of the Syawalan tradition. The student learning sequence comprises four series, which include observing an interactive video of the syawalan tradition context to characterize sphere elements, utilizing orange fruit to find the sphere's surface area, discovering the sphere's volume through the cylinder and magic seeds, and resolving sphere-related contextual problems. Additionally, the activities devised in this study can potentially develop students' interest and conception of sphere material in the ninth grade. Abstract

Sam Poo Kong is one of Semarang's city cultural heritages. This historical structure features intriguing architecture as well as being a popular tourist destination. This study aims to explore Sam Poo Kong's building as a starting point in the geometric transformation course. Besides, the study method is descriptive in qualitative terms with the ethnography approach, namely the type of research to describe and acquire data as a whole, comprehensive, and in-depth. The result is an ethnomathematics exploration of Sam Poo Kong's historic buildings, representing mathematical concepts including reflection, translation, rotation, dilation, and cultural values. Based on implementation in transformation class, students can quickly grasp which Sam Poo Kong's building portrays transformation. Students can identify and describe the Sam Poo Kong building's transformation forms, which include: 1) reflection on the temple as a whole, ornaments, and Sam Poo Kong entrance gates; 2) translation on the statues, roofs, lanterns, and poles; 3) rotation on the bedug, reliefs, incense holders, lanterns, and anchors; and 4) dilatation of the inner and outer rooflines of the Sam Poo Kong building. Abstract

Pelatihan pembuatan saputangan bermotif batik bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan teknik batik peserta serta mendorong kreativitas dalam desain produk rumah tangga. Program pengabdian ini melibatkan penyampaian teori dan praktik langsung. Hasil pelatihan menunjukkan bahwa peserta berhasil menerapkan teknik batik dengan baik, menghasilkan produk akhir yang berkualitas. Peserta juga menunjukkan tingginya tingkat kreativitas dalam menciptakan motif batik. Tanggapan balikan pihak penyelenggara pelatihan adalah kepuasan atas materi pembicaraan dan arahan seperti juga rencana di masa depan pencapaian dari langkah-langkah tersebut untuk memperoleh penghidupan kerajinan tangan. Pelatihan ini memberikan dampak positif pada aspek ekonomi dan sosial, dengan potensi untuk pemberdayaan ekonomi lokal dan pelestarian budaya batik. Hendaknya program pelatihan diperluas ke komunitas lain agar hasil lebih maksimal lagi di mana itu menjadi hal penting atau materi dikembangkan lebih lanjut guna hasil lebih optimal.

Abstract

This research is an exploratory study to show the relationship between mathematics and culture. This study aims to explore the culture of the traditional activities of the Central Java Rewandha Sesaji tradition which contains mathematical concepts. This research uses ethnographic methods. Data collection techniques use ethnographic principles such as observation, interviews, documentation, and field notes with ethnographic descriptions. The results of the research show that in the traditional activities of the Central Java Rewandha Sesaji tradition there are several mathematical concepts, such as nets and the surface area of ​​a cylinder, the surface area of ​​a cone, the Pythagorean theorem, the area of ​​a circle, the circumference of a circle, parallel lines and quadrilaterals. Several mathematical concepts resulting from the exploration of these traditional traditions can then be used as context in learning to support students' numeracy skills. The results of this research can be used as inspiration for further research to explore other cultural traditions that can be used as a context for realistic mathematics learning that is more fun and meaningful.

Abstract

Statistics is a critical subject for developing students' academic and career competencies, yet it remains challenging for many students due to its abstract nature. To address this issue, a study was conducted to design a learning trajectory for teaching statistical concepts by integrating technology, ethnomathematics, and realistic mathematics education (TE-RME) within the culturally relevant context of pranata mangsa, a traditional Javanese calendar system. Employing a design research methodology, the study involved 32 eighth-grade students from a junior high school in Semarang, Indonesia. It was conducted in three phases: preparation for the experiment, designing learning activities, and retrospective analysis. The resulting learning trajectory consisted of three structured activities: observing pranata mangsa videos to collect and present data, deriving formulas for measures of central tendency, and exploring methods for calculating data dispersion. Findings indicated that the integration of pranata mangsa in the TE-RME framework significantly enhanced students' understanding of statistical concepts by connecting abstract ideas to culturally meaningful contexts. This approach facilitated quicker and more meaningful learning, demonstrating the effectiveness of incorporating local wisdom into mathematics education. The study also highlights the potential for future research to explore other culturally relevant contexts to teach mathematical concepts, further advancing the field of culturally responsive education.

Abstract

Kerucut merupakan salah satu materi bangun ruang sisi lengkung yang penting untuk dikuasai siswa. Namun, banyak siswa yang mengalami kesulitan dalam memahami konsep geometri khususnya bangun ruang sisi lengkung kerucut. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan lintasan belajar yang dapat membantu siswa memahami konsep kerucut dengan menggunakan tradisi Popokan sebagai konteks dan GeoGebra sebagai media dalam proses pembelajaran di kelas VII SMP Negeri 38 Semarang. Pendekatan pembelajaran yang digunakan yaitu PMRI (Pendidikan Matematika Realistik Indonesia). Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian Design Research yang terdiri dari tiga tahapan, yaitu preliminary design, design experiment, dan retrospective analysis. Hasil penelitian ini berupa desain lintasan belajar yang terdiri dari 4 aktivitas, yaitu: (1) mengamati video animasi konteks tradisi Popokan untuk mengenal bangun ruang kerucut, (2) menentukan rumus luas permukaan dengan jaring-jaring kerucut berbantuan GeoGebra, (3) menentukan rumus volume bangun ruang sisi lengkung dengan eksperimen menggunakan tabung, dan (4) menyelesaikan masalah kontekstual tentang luas permukaan dan volume kerucut. Abstract

This study aims to develop a learning trajectory by utilizing the local wisdom of the Megono Gunungan tradition to help students grasp the sphere's notion. This research applied the approach of the Indonesian Realistic Mathematical Approach (PMRI). Ninth-grade students at SMP 38 Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia, were the subjects of this study. The methodology used is based on Graveimeijer and Cobb's three steps of design research: preliminary design, design experiment, and retrospective analysis. Numerous data collection methods were used, involving video, photography, the outcome of students' worksheets, and student interviews. The learning trajectory comprises four activities: identifying sphere components using the Megono Gunungan tradition interactive video context, discovering the sphere surfaces area using orange fruit, finding the sphere's volume through rice media, and solving problems of the sphere. This study's findings signify that the utilization of the Megono Gunungan tradition context could encourage learners to recognize the concept of the sphere through a sequence of designed activities.
