Development of a Flipbook-Based E-LKPD Using Bruner’s Cognitive Theory to Enhance Learning Independence of Third-Grade Elementary School Students Sanseni Safitri; Darmansyah; Syafri Ahmad; Melva Zainil

Abstract

This study addresses the limited integration of cognitive learning theory with interactive digital media in elementary mathematics instruction, which contributes to low student learning independence. The study aims to develop and evaluate a flipbook-based electronic student worksheet (E-LKPD) grounded in Bruner’s cognitive theory. A Research and Development (R&D) approach was employed using the ADDIE model, involving third-grade students at SDN 25 Sungai Sirah Hilir (N = 50; experimental and control groups). Data were collected through expert validation sheets, practicality questionnaires, learning independence instruments, and pretest–posttest measures, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, N-Gain, and an independent sample t-test. The results indicate that the developed E-LKPD achieved very high validity (92.55%) and practicality (teacher: 98.40%; students: 97.00%). The effectiveness test showed that the experimental group outperformed the control group in learning independence (80.20% vs. 67.47%) with a significant difference (p < 0.05) and a higher N-Gain score (0.80 vs. 0.43). These findings demonstrate that integrating Bruner’s cognitive theory through enactive, iconic, and symbolic stages in flipbook-based E-LKPD enhances students’ learning independence. Therefore, the developed E-LKPD is feasible and effective as an innovative instructional medium to support independent learning in elementary mathematics.

Abstract

The implementation of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) in vocational high schools requires authentic descriptive essay assessments, yet manual grading frequently induces severe teacher fatigue and subjectivity. This study aims to analyze teachers' assessment needs and design a conceptual model for automated PjBL essay grading specifically for the Projek IPAS subject. Utilizing the initial phases of the ADDIE research and development framework, this descriptive study employed preliminary teacher interviews, field observations, and literature reviews. The needs analysis revealed a critical demand for an efficient evaluation system to mitigate educators' cognitive load. Consequently, a conceptual architecture integrating Word Count, Similarity Index, and Keyword Matching was designed strictly as an administrative and technical pre-screening mechanism, while the Timestamp parameter was relegated solely to task management. Ultimately, this automated conceptual model is projected to serve as a cognitive offloading mechanism to substantially reduce administrative burdens and potentially mitigate grading bias, empowering science educators to reallocate their energy toward authentic substantive assessment.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the impact of integrating digital news media as an authentic problem trigger within the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on students' critical thinking skills and cognitive learning outcomes in vocational science education (PIPAS). This research employed a quasi-experimental approach with a nonequivalent control group design at SMKN 1 Batam. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests structured to measure Robert H. Ennis' critical thinking indicators and cognitive achievements, which were then analyzed using descriptive statistics and independent sample t-tests. The descriptive analysis revealed that the experimental group achieved an average N-gain score of 0.32 in the moderate category for critical thinking skills, outperforming the control group which scored 0.10 in the low category. A similar trend occurred in cognitive learning outcomes, where the experimental group secured an N-gain score of 0.37 (moderate) compared to the control group's score of 0.15 (low). Furthermore, the independent sample t-test confirmed that this difference was statistically significant, yielding a t-value of 2.389 with a significance level of p = 0.01 (p < 0.05). The integration of dynamic, ill-structured problems from digital news portals successfully stimulated vocational students' analytical thinking, reflection, and problem-solving capacities. In conclusion, incorporating digital news media within the PBL framework is a highly effective instructional strategy to foster critical thinking and academic achievement in vocational science streams.

Abstract

Transformasi digital pendidikan menuntut guru memiliki kompetensi mengembangkan media pembelajaran yang menarik dan relevan, sementara pemanfaatan kecerdasan artifisial (AI) dan pendekatan deep learning membuka peluang memperkuat perancangan pembelajaran. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan meningkatkan keterampilan 30 guru SMP di Kecamatan Rambatan, Kabupaten Tanah Datar, dalam mengembangkan media pembelajaran menggunakan Canva berbantuan AI dan merancang pembelajaran berbasis deep learning. Pelaksanaan dilakukan melalui tahap persiapan, pemberian materi, demonstrasi, praktik terbimbing, pengembangan produk, dan evaluasi. Evaluasi dilakukan dengan membandingkan capaian empat indikator kompetensi guru sebelum dan setelah kegiatan, sedangkan keterampilan praktis dilihat dari produk media yang dihasilkan peserta. Hasil menunjukkan seluruh indikator meningkat: penggunaan media digital dari 43% menjadi 97%, kemampuan menyusun media berbasis Canva dari 35% menjadi 90%, kemampuan menyusun RPM Deep Learning dari 45% menjadi 95%, dan kepercayaan diri guru menggunakan teknologi dari skor 2,6 menjadi 4,1 (skala 1–5). Peserta juga mampu menghasilkan media pembelajaran berbasis Canva dengan AI sebagai alat bantu desain. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa pelatihan yang memadukan teknologi, AI, dan pedagogi dapat memperkuat kompetensi digital guru, sehingga perlu dilanjutkan melalui pendampingan dan berbagi praktik baik secara berkelanjutan.
