Abstract

Twenty-first century science learning requires students to develop conceptual understanding through scientific activities, but learning processes are still often focused on memorization, causing students to experience difficulties in connecting concepts with real phenomena. This study aimed to develop science student worksheets based on science process skills that are valid, practical, and effective in improving junior high school students’ conceptual understanding. This research used a Research and Development (R&D) method with the 4D development model consisting of define, design, develop, and disseminate stages. The research subjects were seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Simboro. Data were collected using expert validation sheets, practitioner assessment questionnaires, and conceptual understanding tests through pretest and posttest activities. Data analysis was conducted using Aiken’s V index, practicality percentage analysis, and N-Gain. The results showed that the developed worksheet achieved a very valid category based on content, presentation, language, and graphical aspects and achieved a very practical category based on practitioner responses. The effectiveness of the worksheet was demonstrated by an improvement in students’ conceptual understanding with an N-Gain score of 73%, categorized as effective. These findings indicate that science process skills-based worksheets can facilitate students in conducting scientific activities and independently constructing concepts. This study concludes that the developed worksheet is appropriate to be used as science learning material to improve junior high school students’ conceptual understanding.

Abstract

Communication and critical thinking skills are essential competencies in 21st-century learning, particularly in physics education, which requires analytical ability, scientific argumentation, and problem-solving skills. However, teacher-centered learning practices often limit students' involvement in constructing concepts and expressing ideas effectively. This study aimed to analyze the effect of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) on the communication and critical thinking skills of tenth-grade students at UPTD SMAN 1 Mamuju. This research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design. The research sample consisted of 36 students in the experimental class and 35 students in the control class selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using communication skill tests, critical thinking tests, and learning implementation observation sheets, then analyzed using descriptive statistics, Independent Sample T-Test, and N-Gain analysis. The results showed that PBL improved students' communication skills with an N-Gain score of 0.40 and critical thinking skills with an N-Gain score of 0.52, both categorized as moderate improvement. Hypothesis testing showed a significant difference between the experimental and control classes with a significance value of 0.000. These findings indicate that problem-solving activities, discussions, and investigations in PBL encourage students' active participation in learning. In conclusion, PBL is an effective learning model for improving students' communication and critical thinking skills in physics learning.

Abstract

Abstrak Tanah longsor adalah salah satu bencana alam hidrometeorologi yang sering terjadi di Indonesia. Di Provinsi Sulawesi Tenggara, Kabupaten Kolaka Timur termasuk salah satu daerah yang sering mengalami kejadian tanah longsor sehingga berpotensi menimbulkan banyak korban jiwa maupun kerugian material. Untuk menentukan daerah yang memiliki tingkat kerawanan longsor dapat digunakan beberapa metode, salah satunya adalah logika fuzzy. Logika fuzzy merupakan suatu metode yang dapat menerapkan sifat kesamaran pada nilai sehingga mampu mengikuti cara berpikir manusia. Pada penelitian ini, logika fuzzy digunakan untuk menentukan tingkat kerawanan longsor pada setiap kecamatan di Kabupaten Kolaka Timur. Metode logika fuzzy terdiri dari tiga tahapan, yaitu fuzzyfikasi, penalaran, dan defuzzyfikasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan lima parameter sebagai input, yaitu curah hujan, kemiringan, ketinggian, jenis tanah, serta penggunaan lahan, dan menghasilkan keluaran berupa tingkat kerawanan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat tiga kecamatan yang termasuk dalam kelas sangat rawan, empat kecamatan dalam kelas rawan, dan lima kecamatan dalam kelas tidak rawan. Abstract Landslides are one of the hydrometeorological natural disasters that frequently occur in Indonesia. In Southeast Sulawesi Province, East Kolaka Regency is one of the areas where landslides often occur, resulting in significant loss of life and material damage. To determine landslide-prone areas, several methods can be used, one of which is fuzzy logic. Fuzzy logic is a method that applies the concept of vagueness in values and is capable of representing human reasoning. In this study, fuzzy logic is used to determine the level of landslide susceptibility in each district of East Kolaka Regency. The fuzzy logic method consists of three stages: fuzzification, inference, and defuzzification. This study uses five parameters as input variables, namely rainfall, slope, elevation, soil type, and land use, and produces an output in the form of a landslide susceptibility level. The results show that three districts are classified as very highly susceptible, four districts are classified as susceptible, and five districts are classified as not susceptible.

Abstract

Pelaksanaan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (PKM) ini telah dilaksanakan di Jurusan Fisika, Fakultas Matematika dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam, Universitas Negeri Makassar (FMIPA UNM). Pelaksanaan kegiatan ini berfokus pada sosialisasi dan pendampingan intensif terkait implementasi panduan penyelesaian tugas akhir bagi mahasiswa tingkat akhir di Jurusan Fisika FMIPA UNM. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini secara umum meliputi pemberian materi komprehensif, sesi bedah draf penulisan, simulasi administrasi, serta diskusi dan tanya jawab interaktif bersama mitra. Rangkaian program ini dilaksanakan melalui empat tahapan utama, yakni: (1) Perencanaan, (2) Persiapan, (3) Pelaksanaan, dan (4) Evaluasi. Hasil dari program kemitraan ini menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan, wawasan, dan pemahaman mitra secara signifikan mengenai sistematika penulisan, teknik sitasi baku, dan alur birokrasi tugas akhir. Melalui pendampingan terstruktur ini, mahasiswa merasa sangat terbantu dalam meminimalkan kesalahan format draf dan mengatasi hambatan metodologi riset. Dampak positif dari kegiatan ini tidak hanya mempercepat masa studi mahasiswa menuju kelulusan tepat waktu, tetapi juga meningkatkan efektivitas proses bimbingan dosen serta membuka peluang standardisasi mutu publikasi ilmiah di lingkungan Jurusan Fisika FMIPA UNM.

Abstract

The research has been done with the purpose to examine the impact of MJO propagation on extreme rainfall as a reference for weather forecasting and analysis, especially on extreme rainfall as an efforts to mitigate hydrometeorological disasters in the Kei Islands region. The analysis of MJO activity on extreme rainfall in this study uses the MJO data of phases 4, 5, and 6 with amplitude ≥ 1, and rainfall data in the period of 1997 to 2023, which is processed using the 98th percentile method to obtain extreme rainfall thresholds which are then used to determine trends in the frequency of extreme rain events and the influence of MJO activity. The results show that the trend in the frequency of extreme rain events has a negative value, meaning that extreme rain events will decrease in the future. MJO activity influences ±  30% of extreme rainfall events in the period 1997 to 2023, the other 70% is influenced by other factors. The use of the MJO index as an early warning for mitigation plan on hydrometeorological disaster in Kei Islands could be done by utilizing MJO monitoring and forecasting data accompanied by analysing the atmospheric dynamic conditions

Abstract

In the 21st century, critical thinking skills have become a crucial competency in physics education for understanding the concepts behind complex natural phenomena; however, prior research has rarely explored digital-based learning models specifically capable of measuring improvements in these skills among students. This research aims to determine the critical thinking skills of students through the application of active learning strategies at senior high school twenty-two Makassar. The type of research is quantitative research with a descriptive survey method to obtain data. The population in this research was all class eleventh students with a physics interest at senior high school twenty-two Makassar, which consists of ten classes with a total of three hundred fifty-one students. The sampling technique used in this research was purposive sampling. The sample of this research was one hundred thirty-nine students. The variables in this research were critical thinking skills and active learning strategies. The data obtained showed that the critical thinking skills of students were mostly in the low category with a percentage reaching sixty-eight percent. The factors that made the scores of students' critical thinking skills predominantly in the low category were the application of active learning strategies in physics subjects that were not optimal because they are accustomed to memorizing, have little mastery of concepts, and are not trained in critical thinking. These findings indicate that a limited understanding of concepts and a lack of opportunities to practice critical thinking may contribute to students' low critical thinking skills. Implications for physics teachers or curriculum developers regarding the optimization of active learning strategies to enhance critical thinking skills

Abstract

Subdistrict Galesong is lying areas and coastal areas with an altitude of 0-100 meters above sea level. This spurred the use of land for the functional area awakened. Based on this case, it is necessary to conduct research on seismic vulnerability distribution in Kecamatan Galesong of Takalar Regency. Primary data are taken directly around the north coast Galesong using 303S TDL. The data taken as much as 5 points of measurement with the distance of each point about 500 meters. Further data measurement is then processed with Geopsy software. The frequency value is 0,416-0,509 Hz hence the dominant alluvial rock study location, where at point MG02 is the most vulnerable area with value 105,9918. While based on the value of PGA is 8.4-9.4 Gal, then the location of research including very small level of risk of earthquake.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the characteristics of the magnetic anomaly distribution of minerals from the subsurface and to identify the composition of rock samples and surface morphology in the geothermal area of Makula Village using the SEM-EDS (Scanning Electron Microscopy-Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy) method. Based on direct observation, the highest temperature obtained from the geothermal area of Makula Village is 43,6oC. The geothermal area of Makula Village Tana Toraja has the characteristics of various magnetic anomaly values ranging from -340,5 nT up to 1015,8 nT. The results of the A and B cross-section modeling using the Oasis software show that the structure of the rocks below the surface to the maximum depth, obtained some form of anomalous bodies namely, calcite, clay, coal, andesite breccia, basalt, and granite. The SEM-EDS test results show that the microstructure of rock samples is generally irregularly shaped with varying sizes and dominated by magnesium and silicon.
