Abstract

Women play a crucial role in driving advancements in the local economy in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals. This research seeks to offer an unbiased understanding of women’s motivational levels, perspectives, and roles in Desa Pesanggrahan, Mojokerto, East Java, contributing to the development of their cultural landscape. This descriptive qualitative study utilized data collected from August to September 2023 through document reviews, interviews, and observations with female members of the Family Welfare Development (Pembinaan Kesejahteraan Keluarga [PKK]) in Desa Pesanggrahan organization in Desa Pesanggrahan. We employed Abraham Maslow's theory on the hierarchy of needs as a base for the analysis of this paper. The result of interviews with the locals, documentation, and observation carried out in the data collection of this research found that women in Desa Pesanggrahan still have low motivation based on Maslow’s theory. This affects their ability to generate innovative ideas and make independent decisions in the development of local culture. Women tend to select men as their leaders, as they often lack the confidence to assume leadership roles in the village. Their role in developing their cultural products in the village is overshadowed by the men of the village.

Abstract

Literature significantly influences cultural identity and social consciousness within contemporary education, particularly regarding Indonesian literary traditions. Globalisation has profoundly impacted education, often resulting in the marginalisation of cultural heritage. This study analyses how literature can preserve cultural values while promoting global awareness and social understanding. The research employs James Paul Gee’s discourse analysis framework to examine texts by notable Indonesian authors, such as Eka Kurniawan, Chairil Anwar, and Seno Gumira Ajidarma, focusing on themes of identity, tradition, and modernity. Data was collected through textual analysis, supplemented by interviews and focus group discussions with educators, literary scholars, and learners. Thematic analysis was utilised to identify key cultural identities and themes related to social issues. The findings reveal that Indonesian literature illustrates significant tensions between tradition and modernity and highlights individual freedom versus societal expectations. Additionally, it offers critical perspectives on the impact of globalisation on cultural identity. The research concludes that integrating literature into educational curricula can enhance learners' appreciation of their cultural heritage, foster critical thinking, and promote multicultural awareness. This approach contributes to a more culturally responsive education system, better equipping learners to navigate the complexities of a globalised world.

Abstract

This study aims to empower fishermen's wives through the promotion of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) focusing on processed mangrove products at the Petik Laut Festival, Cemara Beach, Jember. The research method used is a mixed approach that includes observation, focus group discussion (FGD), and matrix of cross-impact multiplications applied to a classification (MICMAC) analysis. The results of the study indicate that market access, financial literacy, and social networks are key factors in the success of coastal women's economic empowerment. The Petik Laut Festival has proven to be effective in promoting processed mangrove products, expanding market reach, and increasing the competitiveness of local products when viewed from market access. Therefore, it is important to develop women's capacity through entrepreneurship education and access to technology. This empowerment supports poverty alleviation and gender equality, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
