Abstract

This study uses a quantitative approach with a regression research type. The research sample consisted of 112 students selected using the type of nonprobability sampling technique used in this study is purposive sampling. The considerations or criteria in determining the sample in this study are adjusted to the limitations of the research problem, namely Guidance and Counseling Students of the Class of 2023 who actively use social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and WhatsApp, the research instrument uses a Likert scale that measures the attitudes, opinions, and perceptions of a person or group of people about an educational symptom or phenomenon. The normality test uses a one-sample Kolmogorov Smirnov (K-S) test tool, which is a Goodness of Fit test tool that is carried out by comparing observation scores with a certain theoretical distribution using SPSS statistics. Researchers manage data through the SPSS program, so the criteria for determining whether the curve is normal or not guides the asymptotic significance test (asymp. Sig.) of 0.05. Data is considered normal if it meets the following criteria: a) If the significance value obtained is > 0.05 then the sample comes from a normally distributed population. Based on research results showing that social media has a significant influence on students' social interactions. Keywords: social media, communication problems, students

Abstract

This study is motivated by overseas students facing adaptation challenges in new environments, including cultural, linguistic, and social differences, potentially causing stress, anxiety, and loneliness. Peer emotional support is an important factor that can assist overseas students in self-adjustment. This research aims to identify the level of peer emotional support, identify the level of self-adjustment, and examine the significant positive relationship between both variables among overseas students in the Guidance and Counseling Study Program at Universitas Jambi, class of 2025. This study uses a quantitative correlational method. The population was 113 overseas students, with a sample of 76 students determined by purposive sampling. The instrument was a Likert scale questionnaire tested for validity and reliability, with Cronbach's Alpha values of 0.917 for emotional support and 0.924 for self-adjustment. Data analysis included normality, linearity, Product Moment correlation, and hypothesis testing. The results showed: (1) peer emotional support was in the medium category (26.32%); (2) self-adjustment of overseas students was in the medium category (31.58%); (3) there is a significant positive relationship between peer emotional support and self-adjustment, evidenced by a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05) and a correlation coefficient of 0.610, indicating a medium relationship.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the relationship between interpersonal communication skills and the quality of social interaction among ninth-grade students at SMP Negeri 7 Muaro Jambi. The study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational method. The population consisted of 198 students, with a sample of 132 students selected using the simple random sampling technique. Data were collected using questionnaires that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was conducted using the Pearson Product Moment correlation test with the assistance of IBM SPSS Statistics ver 22. The results showed that students' interpersonal communication skills were in the high category, with a percentage of 84.92%, while the level of social interaction was also in the high category, with a percentage of 79.45%. The correlation test results indicated a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05 and a correlation coefficient of 0.730. These findings indicate a positive and significant relationship between interpersonal communication skills and the quality of students' social interaction. The higher the students' interpersonal communication skills, the better their quality of social interaction.
