Abstract

This study examines the challenges faced by history teachers in vocational high schools in designing, implementing, and assessing learning activities in alignment with the Merdeka Curriculum framework. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques, including observation, interviews, and document analysis. The data collected were analyzed using an interactive analysis model. The findings reveal that the primary challenges faced by history teachers in vocational high schools include difficulties in formulating learning outcomes, learning objectives, and the flow of learning objectives. These difficulties hinder teachers' ability to design and develop teaching modules that meet students' needs. Additionally, limited proficiency in using technology and inadequate learning facilities compound the complexities of implementing the Merdeka Curriculum. To address these challenges, school stakeholders must demonstrate a strong commitment to providing specialized training for teachers to enhance their understanding and capabilities in managing learning processes in accordance with the curriculum's principles. Moreover, improvements in learning facilities are essential to support the effective implementation of the curriculum.

Abstract

This study explores the character values as the foundation for Social Studies curriculum development through a comparative analysis between Indonesia and Japan. Employing a qualitative descriptive method with content analysis of official curriculum documents, the research reveals that both nations place strong emphasis on character formation, though shaped by distinct historical, cultural, and philosophical contexts. Japan’s approach is deeply rooted in a consistent and centralized education system that blends constitutional nationalism, cultural collectivism, and Bushidō ethics into daily school life. Meanwhile, Indonesia has experienced a dynamic transformation from ideological and centralized models to more flexible, contextual, and culturally responsive curricula, particularly under the Merdeka Curriculum. The findings underscore the need for localized pedagogical strategies and enhanced teacher competencies to effectively translate character education into practice, enabling the development of socially responsible, globally aware citizens grounded in national values.

Abstract

This study explores how social disparities manifest in environmental conservation efforts within buffer zones of protected areas, adopting a comparative case study approach across ten diverse settings in Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America. Drawing on qualitative data, it investigates the distribution of benefits, community engagement, and accessibility to natural resources. The analysis reveals that conservation models driven by incentives frequently deepen pre-existing inequities, particularly when policies are crafted without inclusive consultation or sensitivity to local realities. Common challenges identified include elite capture, resource privatization, limited representation of vulnerable groups, and displacements that disregard customary rights. Despite the presence of community-driven initiatives such as local monitoring schemes and ecotourism ventures their impact is often constrained by inadequate governance structures and superficial community involvement. The research underscores the necessity of embedding principles of justice and equity into conservation frameworks to achieve outcomes that are not only ecologically sound but also socially just. Conceptually, this work contributes to critical debates at the intersection of environmental governance and social equity. Practically, it offers guidance for policymakers to design more context-responsive, participatory, and rights-based conservation strategies. In sum, the findings affirm that sustainable conservation is unattainable without meaningful inclusion and respect for historical and cultural claims.

Abstract

Financial literacy among students is at 23.4% and is categorized as low. This has led to increasingly high levels of consumerism and even stress. The Banjar community has a work culture known as cangkal. Cangkal refers to a persistent and diligent work ethic. Financial literacy education has an impact on students' attitudes, knowledge, and financial skills. This study aims to analyze the influence of integrating the cultural values of cangkal into financial literacy education on attitudes, knowledge, and skills. This is a quantitative study using Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). This study was conducted in the city of Banjarmasin and Barito Kuala Regency, involving seven junior high schools with a sample size of 422 respondents from grade VII. The findings of this study are: (1) Cangkal culture has cultural values such as trust, hard work, and preference; (2) The integration of Cangkal cultural values in financial literacy education has a positive influence on attitudes, knowledge, and skills. This can be seen from the path coefficient values that are close to +1, indicating a positive and increasingly strong relationship between these variables, with results of 0.932 for knowledge, 0.921 for attitude, and 0.909 for financial skills. The conclusion of this study is that the integration of Cangkal cultural values into financial literacy has a positive influence on financial knowledge, financial attitudes, and financial skills. Further research with a different focus is expected to strengthen this study.
