Abstract

Environmental degradation driven by low community awareness and limited sustainable practices poses a critical challenge for local development. This community engagement program aims to bridge the gap between environmental knowledge (eco-literacy) and practical action (eco-action) by empowering residents to innovate environmentally friendly products. Specifically, the program integrates eco-literacy training with hands-on technical skills in ecoprint production and the conversion of used cooking oil into eco-friendly candles. The activities, conducted in Paya Village, Pesawaran Regency, involved 60 participants, including fifth-grade elementary students, housewives, and village youth groups. A participatory action approach was implemented through three main stages: (1) socialization to enhance eco-literacy, (2) direct training on eco-product innovation, and (3) mentoring and evaluation of product quality and sustainability impact. The outcomes demonstrate a significant improvement in participants’ eco-literacy and technical competence in creating value-added eco-products, utilizing leaf and flower waste for ecoprint designs and used cooking oil for aromatic candles. Beyond waste reduction, the initiative fostered alternative income opportunities and reinforced intergenerational collaboration between youth and adults. The novelty of this program lies in its dual integration of eco-literacy education and product innovation through intergenerational learning, advancing previous community service models that typically focused on either environmental education or product-based empowerment. This approach highlights the transformative potential of linking environmental awareness with entrepreneurial sustainability and recommends replication in other community-based economic–ecological resilience programs.

Abstract

The application of learning models that are not in accordance with the abilities and intellectual background of students makes learning activities not optimal so as to make Higher Order Thinking Skills and learning independence of students low. The effort made is to apply a model that presents a variety of representations so that students can be given the opportunity to receive information according to their abilities, namely the Multiple Representation model. This study aims to determine the effect of the Multiple Representation model on HOTS and the learning independence of grade 10 students in Biology at SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Bandar Lampung. Data collection techniques include essay questions, questionnaires, and documentation. The results showed that the students' HOTS Posttest scores were in the good category with an average N-gain for the experimental class of 0.63 and an average N-gain for the control class of 0.35. The same is true for the posttest scores of students' learning independence with an average N-gain for the experimental class of 0.54 and an average N-gain for the control class of 0.15. The results of data analysis show that the data is normal and homogeneous. The results of hypothesis calculations with the Manova test show that the Sig value is 0.000 <0.05, then H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. It can be concluded that there is an effect of the Multiple Representation model on HOTS and Learning Independence of 10th grade students in Biology at SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Bandar Lampung.

Abstract

Keywords: Fotosintesis, Miskonsepsi, Soal Esai

Abstract

Biology learning in secondary schools still faces various challenges, particularly related to poor conceptual understanding, limited scientific skills, and declining student motivation. One major issue is the dominance of conventional assessment techniques that emphasize memorization rather than demonstrating real ability through performance. This study aims to determine the magnitude of the influence of the use of performance assessment in biology learning in secondary schools by considering moderator variables such as geographic area, teaching materials, and implementation success. The study was conducted based on the PRISMA guidelines for systematic reviews and meta-analyses, and used JASP-0.19.3.0 software for data analysis. The results showed that performance assessment has a statistically significant influence on biology learning with a medium effect size on the variables of geographic area (0.585), teaching materials (0.552), and implementation success (0.552). These findings confirm that the use of performance assessment contributes positively to improving students’ conceptual mastery, scientific skills, and learning motivation. Therefore, performance assessment can be recommended as a relevant and effective evaluation strategy to overcome the limitations of traditional assessments and improve the quality of biology learning in secondary schools.

Abstract

Media is important in learning, especially with the development of science and technology. This study aims to design and develop a virtual laboratory based on web education as a learning media and to train the scientific attitudes of high school students. The type of research used in Research and Development (R&D) refers to the nine stages of Borg and Gall. The feasibility test of web education uses a validation questionnaire of material experts, language experts, media experts, and educator response questionnaires. The study results showed that material experts comprised 87.5%, language experts comprised 94%, media experts comprised 91.5%, and educator response questionnaires comprised 85.33%. So, web-educative biology is a very feasible category. The effectiveness of the media in training scientific attitudes is known to have an average n-gain value of 0.59 (moderate) for the experimental class and 0.39 (moderate) for the control class. Based on the results of the t-independent test, a sig of 0.00 <α value (0.05) was obtained, which means that H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected. It is concluded that the web-based educational Virtual Laboratory is effective in training the scientific attitudes of high school students and is suitable for use as a biology learning medium.

This research was conducted in public high school in Kalianda. The research design used was Quasi-Experiment with Pretest- Posttest Control Group method. Cluster Random Sampling technique was used to get the sample of Class XI. The sample consisted of Class XI.10 totalling 35 students as the control class while Class XI. 5 class totalling 36 students as the experimental class. The type of data is quantitative. Tests and questionnaires were used to collect data. Based on the Pretest-Posttest results, the experimental class met the ‘High’ category with an N-gain score of 0.804, while the control class met the ‘Medium’ category with an N-Gain score of 0.650. Independent sample t-test was used to test the hypothesis, with a Sig (2-tailed) value of 0.000 <0.05. The conclusion of this study is that science literacy and scientific attitudes of high school students are influenced by the Problem Based Learning model with Socioscientific Issue. Therefore, it is expected that this research is useful in improving the scientific literacy and attitude of high school students. Keywords: Problem Based Learning, Socioscientific Issue, Science Literacy, Scientific Attitude.DOI: 10.23960/jppk.v13i3.31848
