Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of aflatoxin contaminated feed given for 40 days on the anatomy and histopathology of the thymus of laying hens in the starter phase. A total of 36 DOC laying hens were divided into two groups (P0 and P1). P0 (control group) was given 100% basal starter feed CP 521 and P1 (treatment group) was given 80% basal feed CP 524 plus 20% aflatoxin contaminated feed. Feeding contaminated with aflatoxin was carried out for 40 days, starting on the 20th to the 60th day after the DOC of laying hens was adapted for 20 days. The time of surgery in this study was carried out on the 20th, 40th, and 60th days, where at each surgery time the thymus organ was taken to collect weight data and histopathological preparations were made. The thymus weights based on time showed a significant decrease, but the intergroup thymus weights did not show a significant decrease. The decrease in thymus weight is caused by the involution process. Microscopic observations based on increased cell debris and congestion showed that P0 did not show a significant difference, but P1 showed a significant difference (p>0.05) on the 40th and 60th days. The conclusion in this study was that as much as 20% of feed contaminated with aflatoxins had not affected changes in thymus weight but had shown damage to the histopathological structure of the thymus.

Abstract

Background: Ujung Pangkah mangroves are reported to have been contaminated with heavy metals. Such heavy metals can induce microorganisms to produce biosurfactants. Biosurfactants with amphiphilic characteristics can lower surface tension. Biosurfactants can be used as antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral for biomedical purposes. Purpose: This study aimed to identify and test the activity of biosurfactant isolates of bacteria from Ujung Pangkah Mangrove sediments, Gresik Regency. Methods: Biosurfactant activity test methods include emulsification index, oil spreading, drop collapse, and parafilm test. Results: The results of the identification of bacterial isolates in this study obtained the genus Bacillus sp. because bacterial isolates show rod shape, Gram-positive, aerobic, and have ellipse-shaped endospores on the subterminal. The results of the biosurfactant activity test with the Emulsification index method showed an average result of 54.39% and the results of the biosurfactant activity test with the oil spreading method showed that there was a clear zone. The average result of the clear zone obtained is 54.83 mm. The average result in the parafilm test was 8.02 mm and the drop collapse test showed positive results characterized by falling and spreading of bacterial isolate fermentation broth supernatants.

Abstract

This study aimed to show that the probiotic Lactobacillus sp. could increase production performance (feed consumption, feed conversion, feed efficiency, body weight gain and body weight) and the contribution margin value in broiler chickens infected with Escherichia coli. This experimental study utilized a completely randomized design and involved 40 male broilers. The broilers were infected with Escherichia coli at the age of 21 days, and the study lasted for 35 days. The study consisted of 4 treatment groups, with 10 chickens in each group. The treatment groups were as follows: P0 (negative control; no feed additive; no E. coli infection), P1 (positive control; no feed additive; E. coli infection), P2 (AGP (zinc bacitracin) added at 1 g/kg mixed through commercial feed; no probiotic Lactobacillus sp.; E. coli infection), and P3 (commercial feed no AGP; probiotic Lactobacillus sp. added at 5 mL/L through drinking water; E. coli infection). The data were analysed via a general linear model (repeated measures) test of ANOVA followed by Duncan's multiple distance test. The results revealed significant differences (p<0,05) in production performance, including feed efficiency and final body weight. The highest contribution margin value shown by the P3 treatment group (administering probiotic Lactobacillus sp. in drinking water) was IDR 81,570, and the lowest value shown by the P2 treatment group (administering AGP to feed) was IDR 35,468. In conclusion, the addition of the probiotic Lactobacillus sp. at a concentration of 5 mL/L through drinking water improved production performance and increased the contribution margin value in broilers infected with E. coli.

Abstract

Cranes are indispensable heavy equipment that can lift and move hefty loads in factories, warehouses, and construction sites with ease. Safe operation of cranes is vital because errors in crane design can make it prone to failures, such as broken trusses, which can cause the crane to collapse and hit people around the crane. This research aims to analyze vibrations and modal Truss Gantry Cranes using ANSYS software to determine natural frequencies, critical points, and deformations that can result in damage. To test the Truss Gantry Crane's structural strength with ANSYS software, the Static Structural design program is used to analyze the deformations and stresses experienced by the crane, the Modal design program is utilized to determine its natural frequency, and the Harmonic Response is used to determine its reaction to natural frequencies. Static Structural testing was carried out 30 times, starting from a load of 500 N and increasing to a maximum load of 15000 N, with an interval of 500 N. The test results showed that the Truss Gantry Crane vibrates violently at frequencies of 24 Hz, 68 Hz, and 94 Hz. Further analysis revealed a linear regression analysis for the maximum load and maximum stress that can be applied to the Truss Gantry Crane as follows: y = 0,0091 x + 0,1981

Abstract

Abstract

Geckos (Gekko gecko) are widely used in traditional Chinese medicine and are reported to have anti-tumor properties. Approximately 93% of reptiles exported from Indonesia come from the wild. The direct and continuous capture of geckos in nature will threaten gecko populations in the future. As an effort to control the possible threat of extinction, the Indonesian government encourages the utilization of this animal through captive breeding activities. The existence of gecko (Gekko gecko) captive breeding units in East Java has not been widely developed and still uses conventional and semi-natural patterns. Periodic evaluations need to be carried out to determine whether or not this breeding activity is feasible and what the development strategy is in the future. This study aims to analyze the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats in order to formulate a business development strategy for gecko breeding in East Java. This research uses a survey method by analyzing and describing the problems in the field, while the technical analysis uses internal factor analysis (IFE matrix), external factor analysis (IFE matrix) and SWOT analysis. Based on the results of the SWOT analysis, the development strategy of the gecko (Gekko gecko) breeding business in East Java includes: maintaining market confidence and maintaining quality and production stability; adjusting government regulations related to gecko trade governance; developing effective breeding methods; adjusting government regulations related to breeding governance; establishing market strategies and production stability to suppress illegal trade; and researching new market potential for gecko trade development

Abstract

Bladder stones represent a significant and increasingly common health issue in captive green iguanas (Iguana iguana), often resulting from improper husbandry practices. This case report examines the diversity and characteristics of bladder stones in five green iguanas (three females, two males) presenting with abdominal enlargement and decreased appetite. Surgical removal (cystotomy) was performed, followed by detailed morphometric and chemical analyses of the extracted stones. The stones varied in size (15.3655.01 g), shape, and color (white, cream, and dark brown), yet chemical composition was consistently dominated by calcium oxalate (5260%), tricalcium phosphate (2328%), and uric acid (1012%). Morphometric analysis showed low variation (50%) across measured parameters, indicating homogeneity among the samples. Notably, lighter iguanas tended to harbor heavier stones, suggesting a correlation with disease progression rather than sex or stone color. These findings reinforce the role of dietary imbalances, dehydration, and the anatomical peculiarities of the iguana urinary system in stone formation. Early detection, appropriate diet, and optimal hydration are critical to prevent urolithiasis. This report contributes to the limited data on iguana urolithiasis in Indonesia and highlights the need for broader studies to explore preventive strategies.

Abstract

The research was conducted using completely randomized design by divided 24 Texel sheeps into 4 treatments, each treatment consisted of 6 repetitions. The treatment groups consisted of: P0 (sheeps were given CMC-Na 0,5% solution), P1 (given meniran extracts at 5% concentration), P2 (given meniran extracts at 10% concentration) and P3 (given meniran extracts at 20% concentration). Administration of treatment between groups using a syringe (20 ml). The data were analyzed statistically using the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and continued with Duncan's test. The economic value of feed is obtained from the feed conversion value multiplied by the feed price, where the feed conversion is obtained from the ratio between the amount of feed consumption and body weight gain. The income over feed cost obtained through the difference between income and total feed costs, where the total feed price is obtained from the cost of Texel sheep feed plus the cost of meniran extract (Phyllanthus niruri Linn). P1 with meniran extract 5% gives the best result. It can be conclude that the addition of 5% meniran extract could reduce the economic value of feed and increase income over feed costs on Texel sheeps.

Abstract

The continuing increase in egg consumption has led to the need to ensure that the laying hen industry sector is able to keep up with the need for eggs, one way is by increasing the productivity of laying hens and ensuring that laying hens can lay eggs on time. This study aims to determine the number and diameter of the bursa of Fabricius lymphoid follicles in late-laying pullets laserpuncture. This research is a 2x4 factorial complete randomized design experimental study. Chickens were divided into two groups, First Grade and Second Grade. Each Grade group was further divided into four groups based on laserpuncture points, namely control, Ova, weigen, and Ova-weigen. The variables observed were the diameter and number of lymphoid follicles of the bursa of Fabricius microscopically. The observation data were analyzed statistically using analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by the Duncan test. The results of the analysis showed that 0.5 Joule laserpuncture had a significant effect on the diameter and number of the bursa of Fabricius lymphoid follicles (p<0.05). Laserpuncture shooting 0.5 Joules at the Wei Gen point shows the smallest diameter of the lymphoid follicles. While Ova point showed the smallest number of bursa Fabricius lymphoid follicles.
