Abstract

The small scale physical model of drum type was set-up to obtain the effect of water cement ratio (w/c) to pile capacity and original soil. The simulation of the process of providing bored piles model, soils model, installation and tests (pile loading tests and direct shear tests) under different water cement ratio of mortar and various moisture content of clay were done. The results reveal that the higher water content of original clay the bigger friction resistance, α value as clay soil is softer and the optimum w/c-ratio (w/c = 0,4) provides more pile capacity. It is understandable that water plays an important role, contributes to the change of surrounding clay properties. The improvement of Su ( % increase) due to compaction of concrete in bored pile, migration of moisture and reaction with surrounding clay leads to take benefit of design and construction of bored pile in clay soil for the sake of efficiency and stability.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze measures to prevent progressive collapse of the Tinjomoyo Bridge in Semarang through hydrological and geotechnical approaches. The research employs a quantitative method with a descriptive approach to evaluate issues encountered in the field. The study includes an analysis of the impact of adding crib structures on riverbank slopes to mitigate scouring caused by water flow and redesigning the bridge pier foundation structure based on soil investigation data and loading conditions. Hydrological analysis indicates that a downstream weir slope of 20% effectively directs water flow to prevent damage to the slopes and bridge piers. Simulations using Plaxis 8.2 reveal that adding crib structures to the riverbank reduces longitudinal displacement by 269.07 mm. Furthermore, the structural safety factor increases from 10.774 (initial condition) to 12.024 (engineered condition). From a geotechnical perspective, redesigning the pier foundation using bored piles with a diameter of 1 meter and 12 pile groups effectively supports the applied loads. Based on the analysis, the proposed crib and foundation design are recommended as solutions to prevent progressive collapse of the Tinjomoyo Bridge. This solution is expected to provide long-term safety and stability for the bridge structure.

Abstract

A wharf is a key infrastructure at a port that functions as a place for ships to dock and moor while conducting the loading and unloading of cargo, as well as passenger activities. The structural integrity of the wharf, especially along the bank, must be carefully designed to ensure ships can anchor securely. In pier construction, slope reinforcement is often done using sheet piles. When designing sheet piles, important factors such as pile depth and soil type must be considered. However, in practice, challenges arise when the construction in the field does not align with the specifications outlined in the Detail Engineering Design (DED), potentially compromising the wharf’s stability. This research aims to determine whether the reinforcement already implemented meets safety standards and technical requirements to prevent structural failure. A civil engineering approach is applied by reanalyzing the stability of existing reinforcements. The method involves evaluating the strength of the pier structure using various reinforcement types, including Corrugated Concrete Sheet Pile (CCSP), Concrete Sheet Pile (CSP), and Tie Rods. These evaluations are carried out through numerical calculations and structural analysis using the Plaxis program to simulate performance and ensure the design's reliability under both normal and seismic conditions.

Abstract

Concrete that is in a surrounding with high sulfate and chloride levels can affect durability of concrete. Numerous technologies that might be often used include: protecting coating, addition of silica fume to concrete mix, and type II cement. Consequently, the intention of this have a look at was to examine effectiveness of shielding coatings, the addition of silica fume to the concrete blend, and the usage of kind II cement to grow the sturdiness of concrete uncovered to chlorides and sulfates. The specimens were made in 4 variations; cement type I specimens without protection, cement type I specimens with coating, cement type I specimens with silica fume, and cement type II without protection. The specimens were immersed in a solution of chloride and sulfate for 14 days, 28 days, 42 days, and 56 days. The study was carried out by testing the compressive strength, chloride content, chloride infiltration, visual analysis, and change of length. The results showed that protective coating had resistance to chloride and sulfate, the addition of silica fume to cement type I provided resistance to chloride but did not to sulfate, while the use of cement type II provided resistance to sulfate but did not provide chloride.
