Abstract

Student Worksheet (LKPD), is a useful guide in conducting a practicum. This study aims to analyze, test, and reconstruct Student Worksheets (LKPD) that do not meet the established standards. The research method used is using a qualitative descriptive method, which analyzes the Student Worksheet (LKPD) of the urine test practicum contained in the Biology package book for class XI SMA from several curricula. The analysis was carried out on 10 Student Worksheets (LKPD) for urine testing from the Competency-Based Curriculum (KBK) (2004), Education Unit Level Curriculum (KTSP) (2006), and the 2013 Curriculum from competency aspects, practical aspects, and knowledge construction aspects. The results showed that, there were discrepancies in the Student Worksheet (LKPD) of the urine test on competency aspects, practical aspects, and knowledge construction aspects. Practically, the urine test Student Worksheet (LKPD) analyzed can be carried out properly, but some Student Worksheets (LKPD) are not in accordance with the predetermined standards. In addition, the existing Student Worksheets (LKPD) from the Competency-Based Curriculum (KBK) (2004), Education Unit Level Curriculum (KTSP) (2006), to the 2013 Curriculum, there is no change in the working procedures from the Competency-Based Curriculum (KBK). (2004) to 2013 Curriculum. Therefore, it is necessary to reconstruct the urine test Student Worksheet (LKPD) as an alternative to practicum in order to construct knowledge and develop students' thinking skills, so that practicum activities become more meaningful.

Abstract

Student Worksheet (LKPD) is a practical guide in science learning. The existence of LKPD makes practicum activities can be carried out properly and structured. However, in biology lessons, especially the LKPD of the human respiratory system, the practicum of measuring lung capacity in the field is still not appropriate. Therefore, this study aims to reconstruct the LKPD on the human respiratory system material about practicum measuring lung capacity. This research uses the ANCOR (Analysis, Trial, and Reconstruction) stages. This study uses a quantitative descriptive method. The sample in this study amounted to 8 samples of LKPD selected using purposive sampling technique. The instrument used consists of 3 components, including: conceptual analysis, analysis of knowledge construction based on the Vee Diagram adapted from Novak and Gowin (1984), and practical analysis. The results showed that there were still various problems in conceptual analysis, knowledge construction analysis, and practical analysis. In addition, the results of trials related to practicum measuring lung capacity there are still unclear work procedures, as well as practicum tools used to measure lung capacity have weaknesses and are less accurate in data acquisition. So that there is a need for a better LKPD reconstruction, constructing student knowledge, and in accordance with the basic competencies in the applicable curriculum. Meanwhile, to overcome the weakness of the practicum tool, the researchers made an alternative simple tool to measure lung capacity that can develop the HOTS ability of students.

Abstract

This research aimed to provide an overview of the practicum design regarding the differences between animal cell and plant cell used in Student Worksheet in Banyuwangi Regency. The samples used were 6 Student Worksheets of practicum work on animal and plant cells consisting of 3 Student Worksheets from the education unit level curriculum (hereafter, KTSP) and 3 Student Worksheets from the curriculum 2013. The sampling technique used in this research was purposive sampling. The instruments used were obtained from the Biology Education Lecturers Team of Indonesia University of Education which consisted of relevance aspect, Competency Aspect, practical aspect and knowledge construction analysis of Vee Diagram adapted from Novak & Gowin (1984). The results of the analysis showed the following: 1.) relevance aspect, not in accordance with the demands of Basic Competence, 2.) Competency Aspect, there were no objects or phenomena that could be observed and the ability to think was only limited to C1, 3.) practical aspect, showing that the suitability of the tools , materials and practicum steps still did not meet the practicum standards, and 4.) the knowledge construction of title/objective had not been focused, the object of the phenomenon could not be observed and only a few theories, principles, and concepts could be identified. This shows that the role of Student Worksheet in practicum activities has not been optimal and practicum reconstruction is needed so that practicum activities can run optimally.

Abstract

Evolution is one of the main subjects of biology taught in science colleges. Unfortunately, students seem less attention to this subject. In the subject of evolution, the lesson commonly uses the animal as a model to improve the students understanding. The purpose of this study is to compare the ability of tree thinking students who use animals and plants as a model in the evolution lesson. Tree thinking refers to an approach to evolution that emphasizes reading and interpreting phylogenetic tree. This study involved 20 undergraduate students enrolled in the evolution course for biology majors at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI). The tree thinking ability of students was measured using Tree Thinking Concept Inventory (TTCI) of Naegle with a little modification. In this test, we analyzed student preferences using animal or plant models using phylogenetic tree diagrams. Results showed that students’ TTCI score was higher when using animal models (65.42%) than plant models (55%). These results suggested that students remain to prefer animal models compare to plant models to study evolution. Nevertheless, the use of plants as models can be an alternative to learning evolution in the future.
