Abstract

Stunting is a global health issue caused by chronic malnutrition that significantly impacts children's growth and development. Jember Regency has the highest stunting prevalence in East Java, reaching 34.9%, thus requiring effective solutions. Specific and sensitive nutritional interventions based on transcultural nursing are seen as crucial efforts in reducing stunting rates. However, a valid and reliable instrument is needed to assess the effectiveness of interventions at the family level. This study aims to develop and validate a specific and sensitive nutritional intervention questionnaire based on transcultural nursing as a tool to measure family awareness in preventing stunting in Jember Regency. This research involved 42 mothers of stunted children as respondents, residing within the working area of the Rambipuji Public Health Center. The instrument's validity was assessed using the Content Validity Index (CVI), while reliability was measured through Cronbach's alpha coefficient to ensure consistency. The questionnaire includes nine dimensions, such as Technology, Religion and Life Philosophy, Social and Family Support, Cultural Values and Lifestyle, Specific and Sensitive Nutritional Interventions. Content validity ranged from 0.80 to 1.00, and internal consistency measured by Cronbach's alpha showed values between 0.752 and 0.950. These results indicate that the questionnaire is effective in measuring family awareness and the effectiveness of nutritional interventions. This questionnaire is a valid and reliable instrument to support the optimization of sustainable stunting prevention programs in Jember Regency.

Abstract

Effective leadership behavior in hospitals can influence nurses’ performance, including job expectations. Positive job expectations can contribute to improving the quality of health services. In addition, organizational commitment is essential as a mediating factor that can connect leadership behavior with work expectations. However, this relationship has not been studied in depth in the context of hospitals. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the influence of leadership behavior on nurses’ work expectations through organizational commitment at Jember Lung Hospital. This study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The total sample size was 146 nurses working at the Hospital of Paru in Jember. Data were collected using a questionnaire consisting of three questions: leadership behavior, organizational commitment, and work expectations. The data were analyzed using a logistic regression analysis to explore the influence between the variables studied. This study indicated that leadership behavior positively influences organizational commitment (p < 0.00). In addition, leadership behavior also has a positive effect on organizational commitment (p < 0.001). Organizational commitment mediates the relationship between leadership behavior and work expectations with a value (p < 0.00), which indicates that organizational commitment is a significant mediator in the process. The influence of mediation was 0.000, indicating a substantial contribution of mediation to work expectations. Positive leadership behavior can increase the commitment of nursing organizations and job expectations. This study suggests that hospital management needs to pay attention to leadership behavior to improve nurses’ motivation and work expectations, ultimately impacting the quality of health services.

Abstract

Abstract

Agro-nursing is an innovative approach to health care that integrates nursing science with a contextual understanding of agricultural conditions and rural life. Rural and remote areas in Indonesia often face challenges in accessing adequate health care. This article discusses the role of agro-nursing in addressing these challenges, highlighting how nurses can act as agents of change who provide health care and empower communities through approaches appropriate to local characteristics. By utilizing local potential, community culture, and agricultural systems as an integral part of rural life, agro-nursing strengthens health care promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative efforts. This study also highlights the importance of specialized training, cross-sector collaboration, and policy support to optimize the role of agro-nursing in improving the health of communities in remote and disadvantaged areas. It is hoped that agro-nursing can be a sustainable strategy for narrowing the gap in health services between urban and rural areas in Indonesia.

Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic disease that often occurs in the elderly and contributes significantly to increased morbidity and mortality due to cardiovascular complications. This literature review aims to identify risk factors that influence the occurrence of hypertension in the elderly in the family environment through a literature review approach. Scientific articles published from 2019 to 2024 originated from PubMed, Garuda, and Google Scholar databases. Keywords used include “Hypertension,” “elderly.” “risk factor,” and “daily activites.” Ten article met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed further from the search results. The study results show that several main risk factors for hypertension in the elderly in the family include unhealthy eating patterns (excessive salt consumption), low physical activity, obesity, psychological stress, and low social support from family members. Genetic factors also play a role, but their interaction with lifestyle and family environmental conditions increases the potential for hypertension. Older adults who live in families with little attention to a healthy lifestyle or who experience social isolation tend to have higher blood pressure. Therefore, interventions involving families to increase awareness and play an active role in supporting older adults to adopt a healthy lifestyle, such as a low-salt diet, regular exercise, and stress management, are very important to reduce the prevalence of hypertension in this age group. Further Research is needed to develop effective family-based intervention strategies.

Abstract

Diarrhea is one of the gastrointestinal infectious diseases that is still a public health problem in Indonesia. This disease can affect all age groups, but elementary school children are the most vulnerable group due to an imperfect immune system and hygiene behavior that has not been well established. This community service activity carried out by students of the Nursing Professional Education Study Program aims to increase knowledge and behavior of clean and healthy living through the GEMBIRA program (Gerakan Membiasakan Bersih dan Rajin pada Anak) which is carried out in RW 08 Krajan Hamlet, Sukorambi Village. The targets in this study were school-age children in RW 08 Krajan Hamlet, Sukorambi Village, Jember Regency. The program provided health education, a demonstration of hand washing and tooth brushing, a group therapy quiz, and child empowerment through drawing activities. The analysis results showed an increase in children's knowledge and behavior in four main indicators after the intervention was given. Knowledge about diarrhea increased from 22.7% to 82%, proper tooth brushing from 18.2% to 50%, healthy snack consumption from 18.2% to 68.2%, and hand washing behavior from 27.3% to 81.8%. Wilcoxon test showed that all differences before and after the intervention were significant (p < 0.05). These results indicate that the GEMBIRA program is effective in improving the understanding and behavior of PHBS in children. The continuation of the health education program is expected to be a preventive measure to improve the quality of health of school-age children.
