Abstract

 AbstrackThe objective of this reserach is to study how the student-generated text of Language Experience Approach (LEA) develops recount text writing ability of  Year 11 students of SMK PGRI Pontianak in academic year of 2015/2016 in terms of vocabulary, sentence fluency, and ideas. This research is a Classroom Action research. The sample is 18 students of Year 11 ofAudio-Visual Technique Class of SMK PGRI Pontianak. The results showed that  student-generated text of LEA developed recount text writing ability of  the students. Students’ mean score is increased from non-proficient performance level to proficient performance level. It is particularly developed  vocabulary, sentence fluency, and conceptual creativity in writing. Besides, it also helped in strengthening speaking, listening, and reading skills, as students had to volunteer information verbally or dictate verbal sentences to the teacher, do some extended writing of the dictated account, listen to teacher reading the text, read and comprehend the text, and write a recount text with their own words. Student-generated text (dictated account) of Language Experience Approach (LEA)is hereby seen as an effective strategy to teach not only recount text writing, but also the other 3 skills of English language. To conclude, student-generated text of Language Experience Approach (LEA) is an alternative strategy that can develop students’ recount text writing ability in many areas, at the same time strengthen speaking, listening, and  reading skills. Key Word: Recount Text, Teaching Writing, Student-Generated Text, Language Experience Approach, Classroom Action Research

Abstract

AbstractGenerally in teaching and learning process, the students will mostly get the information from the teacher. They are not given much opportunity to share their thoughts especially which enables them to tell the information orally. The purpose of this research was to find out whether discussion task in teaching speaking of analytical exposition text is effective or not to the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 3 Pontianak in academic year 2014/2015. It was also designed to find out how significant the effectiveness of using discussion task in teaching speaking of analytical exposition text. The sample of this research was 21 students of XI MIA 2. This research was conducted through pre-experimental research. Data analysis showed that discussion task is effective to be used in teaching speaking of analytical exposition text. The result showed that the t-test result (17.98) was higher than the t-table ? with degree of freedom of 20 (2.086). The effect size result also showed a moderate effect (0.84) based on Cohen?s classification (0.51-ES-1.00). In conclusion, the use of discussion task is moderately effective in teaching speaking of analytical exposition text to the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 3 Pontianak in academic year 2014/2015. Keywords: Discussion Task, Analytical Exposition Text, Speaking

Abstract

AbstractThe aim of this research is to improve students’ writing ability, especially in subject-verb agreement in simple present tense of a descriptive text. This research was conducted at the Grade Eight students of SMPN 22 Pontianak in academic year 2017/2018. In this research, the subject is class VIIIB that consists of 30 students. The researcher conducted a classroom action research. The data were collected by measurement technique. The tools of data collecting were observation checklist, field note, and test. Single slot substitution drills was used as the technique of improving writing ability in this research which was conducted in two cycles. The research findings showed that students’ individual score on the first cycle, there were 14 students of 30 students passed the test. On the second cycle, 23 students passed the test. The writing ability of a descriptive text of Grade Eight students of B class of SMPN 22 Pontianak in academic year 2017/2018 improved by single slot substitution drills technique. Keywords: Writing, descriptive text, single slot substitution drills.

Abstract

Abstract: The researcher conducted this research to the fourth semester students of English Study Program at FKIP Tanjungpura University Pontianak. The research purposes were to find out how the students perform their matter and manner in the online discussion forum and how the process of students perform their argumentations from the first to the last by using voice chat. This research was pre-experimental study. Using purposive random sampling technique and 22 students of fourth semester English Study Program were taken as the sample. Students? voice recorder and transcript were the tool of data collection. The average score of the first performance was 61,68 and the last performance was 70,63. As the result, the alternative hypothesis was accepted and the Null Hypothesis was rejected. It means that the use of voice chat to develop students? skills in online debate and discussion is significantly. The process of online discussion by using voice chat had successfully because the students? scores move from average to good category. Besides, it had successfully driven students from conventional learning to blended learning.   Key Words: Voice Chat, Online Discussion Forum, Academic Debate. Abstrak: Peneliti melaksanakan penelitian ini kepada mahasiswa semester empat program Studi Bahasa Inggris di FKIP Universitas Tanjungpura Pontianak. Tujuannya adalah untuk menemukan bagaimana mahasiswa menampilkan materi dan sikap di dalam forum diskusi online dan bagaimana proses dari mahasiswa menampilkan argumentasi dari awal hingga akhir penampilan dengan menggunakan voice chat. Penelitian ini adalah studi pra-experimen. Dua puluh dua siswa dari mahasiswa semester empat dipilih sebagai sampel. Perekaman suara siswa dan transkrip adalah alat dari pengumpulan data. Nilai rata-rata pada awal adalah 61,68 dan akhir penampilan adalah 70,63. Hipotesa alternative di terima dan Null hipotesa di tolak. Ini berarti bahwa penggunaan voice chat telah berhasil mengembangkan kemampuan siswa di debat secara online dan diskusi. Selain itu, proses dari online diskusi menggunakan voice chat sudah berhasil mengarahkan siswa dari conventional learning dan blended learning.   Kata Kunci: Voice Chat, Forum Diskusi Online, Debat Akademis.

Abstract

  Abstract: The aim of this research was to find out the effectiveness of 3-2-1 strategy in teaching reading comprehension on narrative text to the tenth grade students of SMA Santo Fransiskus Asisi Pontianak in academic year 2014/2015. The research method was a pre-experimental research with one group of pre test and post test design and the sample was clas X B which consists of 30 students. The research found that 3-2-1 strategy was effective in teaching reading comprehension on narrative text to the tenth grade students of SMASanto Fransiskus Asisi Pontianak. It is based on the data calculation that  the degree of the effectiveness was 1, 01 and it was categorized as high. In conclusion, the effectiveness of 3-2-1 strategy in teaching reading comprehension on narrative text to the tenth grade students of SMA Santo fransiskus Asisi pontianak in academic year 2014/2015 can be categorized as high.   Keywords: Reading Comprehension, Narrative Text, 3-2-1 Strategy Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keefektifan dari strategi 3-2-1 dalam mengajarkan pemahaman membaca teks narratif pada siswa kelas X SMA Santo Fransiskus Asisi Pontianak pada tahun pelajaran 2014/2015. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode pre-experimental dengan model satu grup dari pre-test dan post-test dan sampel dari kelas X B yang berjumlah 30 siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 3-2-1 strategi efektif dalam mengajar pemahaman membaca teks narratif pada siswa kelas X SMA Santo Fransiskus Asisi Pontianak. Hal tersebut di buktikan dengan perhitungan data  bahwa tingkat dari keefektifan adalah 1,01 yang tergolong kategori tinggi. Jadi, keefektifan dari 3-2-1 strategy dalam mengajarkan pemahaman reading pada teks narratif pada siswa kelas 10 SMA Santo Fransiskus Asisi Pontianak pada tahun akademik  2014/2015 di kategorikan sebagai tinggi.   Kata kunci: Pemahaman Reading, Teks Narratif, 3-2-1 Strategy

Abstract

AbstractThis research aimed to describe the writing of the circular and the notice of Kubu Raya District Education Office by Minister of National Education Republic of Indonesia Number 42 of 2006 on the use of the form / layout of letters, parts of letters, and the language of the letter. The method used is descriptive method. The data source of this research is to document the circular and the notice of the Department of Education Kubu Raya. Data collection techniques used is documentation. The results of data analysis on aspects of builders circulars and announcements covering letter writing letterhead, opening mail, letter, cover letters, and the language of the letter can be concluded that the writing circular and the notice of Kubu Raya District Education Office in 2008 to 2010 have not shown optimal results. In this case, aspects that need to be considered, especially aspects of the form of letters, parts of the letter (letterhead, opening mail, letter and cover letter), and the language letter.        Keywords: Circular, Letter Announcements, Permendiknas.

Abstract

AbstractThe purpose of this research is to answer the research question  “how effective is the use of bang-bang game to increase vocabulary achievement of the seventh grade students of SMPN 11 Pontianak?”. The research  focused on the seventh grade students of SMPN 11 Pontianak in Academic Year 2017/2018 by administering a vocabulary test of common noun before and after the treatment given. In conducting this research, the researcher applied pre-experimental research  using one sample group with no control group. The data showed that the mean score of the students’ post-test was (85.60) higher than students’ pre-test (45.66).The research indicated that the effect size was categorized as moderate effect. The t-test (4.01) was bigger than the t-table (2.042). In conclusion, it is clear that the alternative hypothesis “The use of bang-bang game as the teaching technique in teaching vocabulary is effective to increase students’ vocabulary achievement was accepted, and the null hypothesis was rejected”.           Keywords: Bang-bang Game, Vocabulary,  Pre-Experimental Study

Abstract

Abstract This research was aimed at discovering the effect of Picture Word Inductive Model on students’ vocabulary achievement on the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 14 Pontianak in academic year 2016/2017. This research was a pre experimental research with one group pre-test post-test design. The research population was 212 students from 5 classes and by using cluster random sampling, the researcher chose class VII A  that consisted of 35 students as the sample of the research. The data were gained from pre-test and post-test and analyzed by using t-test. The mean score of the pre-test was 58.14 which classified as “poor to average” and the mean score of post-test was 77.86 which classified as “average to good”. The finding showed that the t-test was 7.85. The t table with degree of freedom (df) 34 and significance level at 0.025 was 3.0019. Based on the data analysis above, the t-test was higher than the ttable (7.85 > 3.0019) which means that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. Moreover, the effect size was 1.78, that result was more than 1.00 (ES > 1.00) which is categorized as strong effect. To sum up, the use of Picture Word Inductive Model in teaching vocabulary give a strong significant effect to improve students’ vocabulary achievement. Keywords: Picture Word Inductive Model, Teaching Vocabulary, Vocabulary Achievement

Abstract

AbstractVocabulary problem is the common problem faced by many students in writing. The restricted vocabulary will affect the students’ English skill. The purpose of this research is to investigate the use of boggle game can improve the students’ vocabulary mastery in descriptive text to the VII C grade students’ of SMP Negeri 1 MempawahHilir in academic year 2015/2016. The method in this research is classroom action research. The research was conducted in three cycles. The subject of this research consisted of 28 students who belonged to VII C grade of SMP Negeri 1 MempawahHilir in academic year 2015/2016. In collecting the data, the writer used observation checklist and field notes. By conducting the classroom action research, it is found that the use of boggle game improved students’ vocabulary in spelling aspect by linking the letters. Boggle game also improved meaning aspect by translate and re-write. The improvement showed in every cycle. On the first cycle there were 32,2% of students who had passed KKM score. On the second cycle improved to 67,8%. On the third cycle improved to 92,9%. In conclusion, the student’ vocabulary in descriptive text had improved by using boggle game. In other words, boggle game can help the students in spelling and meaning aspect which help them in writing descriptive text.Keywords : Boggle game, Improve, Vocabulary, Descriptive Text

Abstract

AbstractThis research was aimed to solve students’ writing problem in narrative text by using graphic organizer on class XI IPS 1 of SMA Santo Fransiskus Asisi Pontianak in academic year 2016/2017. It was focused on determining the generic structure. The research design of this study was classroom action research. The 39 students of class XI IPS 1 were participating in this research. The researcher observed the students’ improvement in writing by collecting data through observation checklist, field notes and achievement test.  It was obtained from observation checklist that most of the students showed better attention in learning narrative writing using graphic organizer while the teacher was encouraging them to write. Based on field notes, it was discovered that the students can write the narrative text by having brainstorming and being guided on graphic organizer itself. After administered achievement test, the teacher found almost of the students can write the whole story by noticing the text organization and vocabulary choice. In the cycle, the researcher found that, the students could use graphic organizer to organize sequence of actions by using simplified questions which are related to the plot. From all of the result, it can be inferred that graphic organizer improves students’ narrative text writing. Key words: narrative writing, graphic organizer, classroom action research
