Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan memahami teks news item para siswa kelas X SMK LKIA Pontianak dengan menggunakan teknik Think Pair Share. Teknik Think Pair Share (TPS) adalah salah satu teknik pembelajaran kooperatif yang dapat mendorong siswa untuk lebih aktif belajar di kelas. Untuk mencapai perkembangan pemahaman membaca para siswa, Penelitian Tindak Kelas dilaksanakan selama empat kali. Selama penelitian berlangsung, nilai rata rata kelas pada siklus penelitian pertama adalah 41.25, nilai rata-rata kelas penelitian kedua adalah 45, nilai rata-rata kelas pada penelitian ketiga adalah 63.5, dan niali rata-rata pada penelitian keempat adalah 68. Keempat nilai penelitian tersebut membuktikan bahwa Think Pair share telah berhasil meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam memahami sebuah teks news item. Kata Kunci: Pemahaman, Pembelajaran Kooperatif, Think Pair Share Abstract: This research aimed at improving reading comprehension skill on news item text through of the tenth grade students of SMK LKIA Pontianak in academic year 2012/2013 using Think Pair Share. Think Pair Share (TPS) is one of cooperative teaching strategies which can encourage students to actively engage in the class. In order to achieve the students improvement, action research was conducted in four cycles. During the action it was found that the students mean score improved from one cycle to another. The mean score of students reading comprehension in the first cycle was 41.25, the second cycle was 45, the third cycle was 63.5 and the fourth was 68. Those four mean scores had proved that Think Pair Share succeeded to improve the students reading ability on news text item. Keyword: Comprehension, Cooperative Learning, Think Pair Share

Abstract: The research is about analysis on theability of the students on comprehending narrative text reading ofthe Eighth Grade Students of SMP KemalaBhayangkariKubu Raya in Academic Years 2012/2013. The objective of the study is to know how well the Students ability in comprehending narrative text. It is expected that the research would be useful for the teachers and students in language teaching and learning process. The method used in this research is a Descriptive Research whichis aimed at describing the characteristics of subjects. The population of the study was the eight Grade Students of SMP KemalaBhayangkariKubu Raya in Academic Years 2012/2013. The number of research samplewas 30 students. The technique used for collecting data was measurement technique and direct observation technique. The tool of collecting data was reading test. Based on the research finding, the students were still weak at reading comprehension. They were weak at finding orientation, complication, resolution, reorientation and vocabulary. Abstract

Abstract: TPR and Role Play used in this research were to improve the vocabulary. The aims were to understand the meaning of words, to practiceusing words and to practice their pronunciation, by which students can improvetheir vocabulary. The researcher used CAR method. There were 30 students at SDN 43 Kubu Raya that was observed. In this research, the result of learning vocabulary by using the methods from the first cycle to third cycle was the students showed their vocabulary improvement especially in understanding the meaning of words when the teacher gave the words to them. They can show the words by responding the command when they did TPR. In using Role play, the students also showed the improvement in practice English especially in pronunciation; they can pronounce the words correctly.It can be concluded that this methods were able to improve the students’ vocabulary. (145 words) Key words: Teaching vocabulary,TPR, Role Play Abstrak: TPR dan Roleplay digunakan dalam penelitian ini untuk meningkatkan kosakata. Tujuannya untuk memahami makna kata, melatih penggunaan kata dan melatih pengucapan mereka, yang manapara murid dapat meningkatkan kosa katanya. Peneliti menggunakan metode Penelitian Tindakan Kelas. Ada 30 siswa di SDN 43 Kubu Raya yang di teliti. Dalam penelitian ini, hasil dari pembelajaran kosa kata dengan menggunakan metode dari silkus pertama sampai siklus ketiga; dengan menggunakan metode TPR dari siklus pertama sampai siklus ketiga yaitu para murid menunjukkan peningkatan kosakata mereka khususnya dalam pemahaman arti kata ketika guru memberikan kata-kata kepada mereka. Mereka dapat menunjukkan kata-kata dengan merespon kata perintah. Kemudian mereka meningkatkan memori mereka dalam mengingat kata-kata ketika mereka melakukan aktivitas TPR. Dalam menggunakan Role Play, para murid menunjukkan peningkatan dalam praktis bahasa inggris khususnya dalam pengucapan; mereka dapat menyebutkan kata-kata dengan pengucapan secara benar. Ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa method ini mampu meningkatkan kosa kata para murid.(145 kata) Kata kunci: Mengajar kosakata, TPR, Role Play

Abstract

Abstract This research is aimed at describing how the Inductive method improvesstudents’ mastery on the use simple past tense on the eighth grade students ofSMP N 1 Sungai Raya in academic year 2017/2018. Based on the observations,the students had problems on the use of simple past tense. The research wasconducted Class Room Action Research in three cycles. The inductive methodwas selected to solve the problem. There are four steps in using inductivemethod. The students were giving a set of examples; generalize a grammaticalrule, test the grammatical rule against in new sentences and revise thegrammatical rule. The researcher used observation and students’ writingassessment to collect the data. The researcher also used observation checklist,field note and students’ assessment to get the research finding. The finding ofthis research indicated that the inductive method was successful. It showed inthe first step the students know about tenses is used in the sentences. Theyknow how to formulate the rule by analyzing the example in second step. Thirdsteps students were able to write simple pas tense correctly and the last stepsstudents could analyze the rule in the sentence. There were thirty four of thirtysix students already achieved the target score seventy five based on KKM. Itmeans 94 % students could achieve the standard score. In conclusion, InductiveMethod improved students’ mastery on the use simple past tense. Key words: Mastery, simple past tense, Inductive Method.

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this research was to find out the effectiveness of Repetition and Role Play technique in teaching speaking. The study was Quasi Experimental, Nonrandomized Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The subject of the research was Year-10 students of SMK Panca Bhakti Sungai Raya in academic year 2014/2015. The sample was two classes, Accounting Class as experimental group and Hotel Management Class as control group which had 30 students of each class. Pretest and posttest were administered in both groups. The treatments were conducted three times. The data showed that the pretest mean score of both groups was similar; 56 and 56,3 for control and experimental group respectively. After the treatment, the posttest mean score of both groups was significantly different; 73,3 for experimental group, and 62,7 for control group. The data proved that repetition and role play technique had strong effect in teaching speaking.   Keywords: Repetition, Role Play, Teaching Speaking   Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui efektivitas teknik Pengulangan dan Bermain Peran dalam pengajaran berbicara. Penelitian ini adalah Eksperimen Semu, Desain Pretest-Posttest dengan Kelompok Non-acak. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas 10 di SMK Panca Bhakti Sungai Raya pada tahun ajaran 2014/2015. Sampel penelitian terdiri dari dua kelas, yakni Kelas Akuntansi sebagai kelompok eksperimen dan Kelas Akomodasi Perhotelan sebagai kelompok kontrol dengan jumlah 30 siswa pada setiap kelas. Pretest dan posttest dilaksanakan pada kedua kelompok. Perlakukan dilakukan tiga kali. Data menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata pretest siswa pada kedua kelompok serupa; 56 dan 56,3 pada masing-masing kelompok kontrol dan eksperimental. Setelah perlakuan, nilai rata-rata posttest siswa pada kedua kelompok berbeda secara signifikan, 73,3 untuk kelompok eksperimental dan 62,7 untuk kelompok kontrol. Data membuktikan bahwa teknik Pengulangan dan Bermain Peran memiliki efek kuat dalam pengajaran berbicara.   Kata Kunci: Pengulangan, Bermain Peran, Pengajaran Berbicara

Abstract

AbstractThis research was conducted to investigate the students’ need in learning describing person especially in speaking section, to design Lemlemtak activity in teaching describing person, and to evaluate whether or not the product is suitable for teaching describing person. The research involved the English teacher and the students at seventh grade of SMP-IT Al-Mumtaz Pontianak. The method of this research is development research which consists of three phases. They are analyze, design, develop, and evaluate or as known as ADDE. In this research, it was found Lemlemtak can help students enjoy the learning process of describing person in speaking section. The need analysis of the research obtained some information about the students’ and teacher need in speaking section and the activity that usually used by the teacher. The model of Lemlemtak activity explained well in module which was designed by the writer. To conclude, Lemlemtak activity is considered good and suitable to use in teaching describing person for speaking at junior high school students especially students in seventh grade. The Lemlemtak activity is a fun and interesting activity which help students enjoy the learning process without any worries of making mistakes.Keywords: Lemlemtak, Describing Person, Speaking, Development Research

Abstract

Artikel ini berkaitan dengan pemahaman siswa terhadap listening comprehension. Voice of America (VOA) special English broadcast digunakan sebagai materi dalam pengajaran listening comprehension kepada siswa kelas X Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA) Muhammadiyah Ketapang pada tahun Akademik 2011/2012. Tujuan melakukan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui seberapa efektif penggunaan VOA special English broadcast dalam pengajaran listening comprehension. Metode penelitian artikel ini adalah pra - eksperimental dengan siswa XC sebagai sampel. Sebagai hasilnya, ditemukan bahwa perhitungan dari effect size (ES) adalah 1.27, itu berarti bahwa pengajaran listening comprehension melalui VOA special English broadcast sangat efektif. Kata Kunci : Voice of America, listening comprehension Abstract: This article concerned with the students listening comprehension. Voice of America (VOA) special English broadcast was used as material in teaching listening comprehension to the tenth grade students of sekolah menengah atas (SMA) Muhammadiyah Ketapang in Academic year 2011/2012. The purposed of conducting the research was to know how effective the use of VOA special English broadcast in teaching listening comprehension. The method of this article is a pre experimental research with students of XC as the sample. The minimum level of passing score on reading skill of descriptive text was based on KKM (KriteriaKetuntasan Minimal) at the eleventh grade of MAS Al-Ishlah Pontianak that was 60. Noticing the increasing of students score and attitude, the writer concluded thatthe ability of reading descriptive text after being taught through the technique of Student Team Achievement Divisions (STAD) can improve successfully. Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this research was to describe what the major problems are faced by English teachers in implementing scientific method in their classrooms. The method used was case study. The participants of this research were three English teachers of SMAN 3 Pontianak. The writer used questionnaire, class observation, and interview to collect the data. The result showed that the teachers faced problems in implementing scientific method with the average of the implementation was only 64,8% was able be implemented. The most problematic stage was in questioning which was only 60% implemented. Moreover,  experimenting stage was only 63% implemented. Another stage with the same percentage of implementation, networking stage which was only 63% can be implemented. Furthermore, in observing stage it was only 67%. Associating stage was the highest stage that can be implemented by the teachers with the percentage was only 70%. In conclusion, the major problem in implementing scientific method for English teachers was in questioning stage. Keywords: English Teachers, Problems, Scientific Method, Implementation. Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apa masalah utama yang di hadapi guru bahasa inggris dalam mengimplementasikan metode ilmiah. Metode yang digunakan adalah studi kasus. Peserta penelitian ini adalah tiga guru bahasa di SMAN 3 Pontianak. Penulis menggunakan kuesioner, observasi kelas, dan wawancara untuk mengumpulkan data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa guru menghadapi beberapa masalah dalam pengimplementasian metode ilmiah dengan rata-rata pengimplementasian hanya 64,8%. Tahapan yang paling bermasalah adalalah tahapan bertanya dengan diimplementasikan hanya 60%. Selain itu, tahapan mengumpulkan informasi diterapkan hanya 63%. Tahapan lainnya dengan persentasi yang sama adalah mengkomunikasikan dengan pengimplementasian hanya 63%. Selanjutnya, tahapan mengamati hanya 67%. Tahapan mengasosiasi merupakan tahapan dengan persentase tertinggi diimplementasikan oleh guru dengan hanya 70%. Kesimpulannya, masalah utama dalam pengimplementasian metode ilmiah untuk guru bahasa Inggris adalah dalam tahapan menanya. The purpose of this research is to solve the students problem which was their difficulty in comprehending the recount text. The subject of this research was class VIIIF; which consisted of 31 students. This research was done in three cycles. The researcher used short answer tests, observation checklist tables, and field notes as the tools of collecting data. The research finding showed that the students reading comprehension improved from the first cycle to the last cycle. It is showed by the number of the students who passed the Standard of minimum score in the last cycle (87,10 % or 27 students). As the target of this research is to make 80 % of students passed the KKM (70). While, it is supported by the mean score of students achievement improved from 62.42 to 81.45. As the result, the writer concludes that Index Card Match collaborated with Group Discussion improved students reading comprehension of recount text very well.
