Abstract

Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui sikap siswa terhadap pemilihan topic dalam kelas membaca. Dalam penelitian ini, jenis-jenis teks yang di amati adalah recount dan narrative yang terdiri dari empat topic dari masing-masing jenis teks. Sampel yang di amati dari penelitian ini siswa-siswa dari Madrasah Aliyah Darul Khairat Pontianak yaitu kelas XI A yang terdiri dari siswa-siswa laki-laki dan kelas XI B yang terdiri dari siswa-siswa perempuan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif. Hasil dari penelitian ini menemukan bahwa topic-topik yang di berikan umumnya sesuai untuk siswa dimana respon-respon yang diberikan oleh siswa umumnya adalah menunjukkan sikap positif. Ini berarti bahwa sikap siswa terhadap topic pilihan guru adalah sikap yang menyenangkan. Kata kunci: sikap siswa, membaca, pemilihan topic Abstract: The purpose of this research was to know students attitudes towards the topic selection in reading class. In this research, the text types observed was recount and narrative that consist of four topics from each text type. The sample being observed in this research was the students of Madrasah Aliyah Darul Khairat Pontianak class XI A that consist of male students and class XI B that consist of female students. The research used descriptive method. The result of this research found that the topics given were generally appropriate for the students where the responses given mostly shows as positive attitude. It means that the students attitudes toward teachers topic selection were favorable attitudes. Key words: Students attitude, reading, topic selection

Abstract

AbstractStudying English in school as part of the main subject where it became important. This intrinsic motivation was investigated in order to know what kind of intrinsic motivation that could push or pull the students to make them interested in studying English subject. The subject for this research was the Twelfth GradeSMAN2 Pontianak. The data showed that Satisfaction is the most intrinsic motivation that could affect their study with 74.92%. While the statement that shows the students motivation is “because I feel English is an important language in the economic development of the world” got 82.94%. This percentage shows students’ main reason to study English subject weren’t only because of the important language in the economic development of the world, but also general satisfaction for the students themselves and is considered as the Intrinsic Motivation could really affect their study of English Subject. It proves that the students have their Intrinsic Motivation, especially in satisfaction category. Keyword : Students’ Intrinsic Motivation, English Subject

Abstract

 AbstractThis study was carried out to analyze students’ error on the use of verbs in recount text writing made by the second semester English education study program of teacher training and education faculty of Tanjungpura University Pontianak. The method used in this study was descriptive qualitative method. Furthermore, the subject of this study was second semester students of Regular B consisted six students from class A and six students from class B. The data were collected through documentations that researcher took from the lecturer. The result of the error analysis process showed that students committed error into four types: omission, addition, selection, and ordering. From the frequency of each error types, selection took 58.1% of the total errors. Moreover, 25.8% errors fell into addition and 16.1% errors fell into omission; whereas, for ordering, it took 0%. This study revealed that the most dominant errors on the use of verbs in recount text writing done by the students were selection. Keywords: Verbs, Recount, Error

Abstract

 AbstractThe purpose of this research was to find out whether or not the use of RPG effective in teaching reading comprehension of descriptive text to the eighth grade students of SMPN 2 Pontianak in academic year 2018/2019. This research was a pre-experimental research design by using one group pre-test and post-test. The population of the research is the eighth grade students’ of SMPN 2 Pontianak which consists of 249 students. From the populations, class VIII H has been chosen as sample with 30 students and the data were collected by measurement technique. Referring to the research findings, it showed that the RPG was effective to enhance students’ reading comprehension due to the increasing of the students’ reading achievement. It was proved by calculating the t-test calculation result (7.47) which was higher than the t-critical (2.045) and the effect size was 1,17 categorized as strong effect. It means that the use of RPG for teaching reading comprehension had increased the students’ skill in reading comprehension of descriptive text. There was significance different result between the pre-test and post-test. The students’ reading score increased and students could understand the text well and enjoyed in learning English. Keywords:Descriptive text, Reading comprehension,Role-playing game

Abstract

Abstrak:Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui keefektifan teknik membaca jigsaw dalam meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa khususnya pada teks deskriptif terhadap siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 18 Pontianak. Penelitian ini juga dilakukan untuk mengetahui apakah teknik tersebut dapat meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa. Studi ini menggunakan metode quasi eksperimen dengan non-equivalent control group design.Sampel penelitian ini terdiri dari dua kelompok, yaitu kelas VIII A sebagai kelompok kontrol dan kelas VIII B sebagai kelompok eksperimen. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa teknik membaca jigsaw efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa. Hal ini ditunjukkan oleh ukuran efek dari teknik membaca jigsaw adalah sebesar 1.21 (efek yang besar). Selain itu, data menunjukkan selisih skor antara pretest dan posttest pada kelompok eksperimen, yaitu sebesar 10,89, lebih tinggi dari selisih skor antara pretest danposttest pada kelompok kontrol, yaitu sebesar 6,03. Hal itu berarti bahwa teknik tersebut dapat meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa pada teks dekriptif. Kata kunci: Teknik Membaca Jigsaw, Pembelajaran Kooperatif Abstract: This research was conducted to find out the effectiveness of jigsaw reading technique in improving students reading comprehension on descriptive text to the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 18 Pontianak. It was also to know whether the technique improved students reading comprehension. This study used quasi experimental method with non-equivalent control group design.The sample of this research consisted of two groups, class VIII A as control group and class VIII B as experimental group. The result of data analysis showed that jigsaw reading technique was effective in improving students reading comprehension on descriptive text. The effect size of jigsaw reading technique was 1.21 (large effect).Besides, the data showed that the interval score between the pretest and posttest in experimental group (10.89) was higher than the interval score between pretest and posttest in control group (6.03). Abstract

Abstract: This research was designed to answer the research question about whether teaching writing procedure text through demonstration for Conversation Elementary III E-Colink Education Centre Pontianak is effective. Starting from an alternative hypothesis, this research took the design of a Pre-Experimental Study. The number of total sample was 10 students. Before doing the treatments, the writer did a pre-test. After the treatment, a post-test was administered to the sample. The result shows that the mean score of students pre-test was 47.75 while the post-test was 70.75. The different score between pre-test and post-test was 23. The calculation of the t-test showed that the T-ratio is higher than the T-Value (6.10 > 2.228 at ? 5%). It is concluded that that teaching writing procedure text through demonstration give a high significant effect to increase the students achievement in writing procedure text. Key words: Demonstration, Writing, Procedure Text Abstrak: Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menjawab pertanyaan penelitian apakah mengajar teks prosedur melalui teknik demonstrasi untuk level Conversation Elementary III E-Colink Education Centre Pontianak efektif. Hipotesis untuk penelitian ini adalah: Mengajar teks procedure melalui teknik demonstrasi adalah efektif untuk prestasi nilai siswa. Rancangan penelitian ini adalah menggunakan Pre-Experimental Studi. Jumlah total sampel pada penelitian ini adalah 10 orang siswa. Sebelum melakukan treatment, penulis telah melakukan lebih dahulu tes awal dan tes akhir. Hasil dari keduanya menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata siswa pada tes awal adalah 47,75 sementara itu pada tes akhir adalah 70,75. Perbedaan nilai antara tes awal dan tes akhir adalah 23. Kalkulasi dari nilai t menunjukkan bahwa ratio T adalah lebih tinggi dari pada nilai T (6,10 > 2.228 di ? 5 %). Kemudian dapat disimpulkan bahwa mengajar teks prosedur melalui teknik demonstrasi memberikan hasil yang signifikan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks prosedur. Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this classroom action research is to improve students speaking ability by using retelling technique. This research focus on fluency, accuracy and comprehension. The subject of the research was the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sukadana. The tools of data collection used were oral test, field note and observation checklist. In the first cycle, the data could not be assessed because it was not like researcher expected. In the second cycle there were 56,7% srtudents passed and raised became 83,3% in the third cycle. Based on the data taken from the three cycles, it was found that the students fluency, accuracy and comprehension of their speaking improved from cycle to cycle. Keywords: speaking ability, procedure text, retelling technique Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian tindakan kelas ini yaitu untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa. Fokus penelitian ini adalah kelancaran, ketelitian dan pemahaman. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X di SMA Negeri 1 Sukadana. Alat yang digunakan dalam pengumpulan data adalah oral test, field note, dan observation checklist. Pada siklus pertama, data yag diperoleh tidak dapat di nilai karena hasilnya tidak sesuai dengan yang diharapkan peneliti. Pada siklus kedua, ada 56,7% siswa tuntas danmeningkat menjadi 83,3% pada siklus ketiga. Berdasarkan data yang di ambil dari ketiga siklus, telah ditemukan bahwa kelancaran, ketelitian dan pemahaman siswa dalam berbicara meningkat dari siklus ke siklus. Abstract

Abstract: This research aims to find out students’ writing performance in recount text that could be assessed through learning journal. Besides, it also aims to find out students’ problem in writing recount text and also the causes of the problem. This research was qualitative research. The sample was 30 Grade X students of SMAN 2 Pontianak in academic year 2014/2015.The techniques of data collecting were observation, test, and interview. The result shows that the average percentage of students’ performance in writing recount text that could be assessed through learning journal was 74,16% which classified into good category. In addition, the result of the research also shows that the most problem in writing recount text that could be discovered through learning journal was vocabulary mastery the most causes of problem was students’ understanding about English language in terms of sentence structure, vocabulary, and also text organization of recount text. Key words:Learning Journal, Recount Text Writing Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hasil penulisan teks recount siswa yang dapat dinilai menggunakan jurnal belajar. Selain itu, penelitian ini juga bertujuan untuk mengetahui masalah dan penyebab dari masalah dalam menulis teks recount yang dapat diungkap melalui penulisan jurnal belajar. Penelitian ini adalah sebuah penelitian kualitatif. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah 30 siswa kelas X di SMAN 2 Pontianak pada tahun akademik 2014/2015. Teknik pengumpul data yang digunakan adalah observasi, tes, dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa persentase rata-rata dari hasil penulisan recount text siswa adalah 74,16 % yang termasuk dalam kategori baik. Selain itu, hasil penelitian ini juga menunjukkan bahwa masalah utama yang dihadapi siswa dalam menulis teks recount adalah penguasaan perbendaharaan kata dalam bahasa Inggris dan penyebab utamanya adalah ketidakpahaman siswa tentang penggunaan bahasa Inggris baik dari struktur bahasa, penguasaan perbendaharaan kata, dan juga struktur teks recount. Abstract

Abstract: The goal of this Classroom Action Research (CAR) was to answer the research problem that is “How well does the students’ speaking ability improvement in pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary and speaking problem like inhibition, taking too long compose to utterances and low or uneven participation minimize after being conducting visual media group presentation of the twelve grade B students of SMK Negeri 1 Pontianak in academic year 2012/2013?”. To improve students’ speaking ability, the researcher conducted a Classroom Action Research. The total number of the XI class’ students is 25 students. Then, the data of this research were taken from students’ score in two cycles and they were collected by using observation and measurement techniques. Based on the research finding, it could be seen that the students’ mean score in the second cycle (66.52) was higher than the first cycles (59.96). Specifically, the application of the visual media group presentation for teaching speaking skills has a significant result. The pronunciation component in the first cycle is 23.64 from the maximum score 40 increases to 27.44, increasing 3.80. The grammar component in first cycle is 19.84 from the maximum score 35 increases to 21.48, increasing 1.64 The vocabulary component shows 16.48 in the first cycle increases to 17.60 in the second cycle form the maximum score 25, increasing 1.12.  In short, the action hypothesis is accepted.Keywords: Power Point, Speaking, Tourism Study

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this research is to analyse the existence of topic sentence in each paragraph in research background. A good paragraph writing must contain clear topic sentence and followed by relevant supporting details as will as optionally completed by concluding sentence. However, many writers ignore the importance of such a good structure of a pargarph writing. Therefore, the researcher was interested to analyse the existence of topic sentence in each paragraph in the research background part of skripsi written by sarjana candidates of English Education Study Program of FKIP UNTAN year 2009 until 2012. To answer the problem, the researcher applied discourse analysis method that is included in qualitative descriptive research. Based on the analysis, as the main finding, it was concluded that almost one-third paragraphs in the whole samples are left alone without any topic sentence.   Keywords: Topic Sentence, Supporting Details Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisa keberadaan kalimat utama di setiap paragraph di latar belakang penelitian. Penulisan paragraf yang baik harus mengandung kalimat utama yang jelas dan diikuti oleh kalimat-kalimat penjelas yang relevan dan diselesaikan oleh kalimat penutup sebagai pilihan. Bagaimanapun, banyak penulis mengabaikan pentingnya sebuah struktur yang baik dari penulisan paragraph. Oleh karena itu, peneliti tertarik untuk menganalisa keberadaan kalimat utama dalam setiap paragraf di bagian latar belakang penelitian dari skripsi yang ditulis oleh calon-calon sarjana mahasiswa FKIP UNTAN Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris pada tahun 2009 sampai tahun 2012. Untuk menjawab masalah ini, peneliti mengaplikasikan metode analisis wacana yang termasuk penelitian deskriptif yang bersifat kualitatif. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, sebagai penemuan utama, disimpulkan bahwa hampir satu per tiga paragraf di seluruh sampel berdiri sendiri tanpa adanya kalimat topik.   Kata kunci: Kalimat Utama, Kalimat Penjelas
