Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model to improve students’ conceptual understanding in the IPAS learning process for fifth-grade students at SD Negeri Tembong 2. The research used a quantitative method with a nonequivalent control group design. The sample consisted of 48 fifth-grade students. The data collection technique involved tests, including a pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed using N-Gain scores. The results showed that the improvement in students’ conceptual understanding after the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning model was evident from the N-Gain score in the experimental class, which was 0.72—classified as high. This was better than the students in the control class who received conventional learning, with an N-Gain score of 0.31—classified as moderate.

Abstract

Character education is essential for developing students’ personalities, particularly religious character, which serves as a core value in strengthening student character education guidelines. In this regard, schools play a vital role in shaping students’ religious character. One way to achieve educational goals with strong character is through the optimal implementation of school culture. This study aims to describe the process of school culture in shaping students’ religious character, to identify the religious character of students, and to analyze the role of school culture in developing religious character among students at Asshiddiqiyah Islamic Boarding School Elementary School. This research employed a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The participants consisted of five informants, including the principal, the first- and fifth-grade homeroom teachers, and two tahfidz (Qur’an memorization) teachers for grades 1 and 5. Data were collected through overt and covert observations, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman (1984) model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing or verification. The findings indicate that the habituation of school culture—such as the culture of reading the Qur’an, congregational prayer, and greeting—plays a significant role in shaping students’ religious character at Asshiddiqiyah Islamic Boarding School Elementary School.

Abstract

This study aimed to: (1) determine the effectiveness of the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) and Game-Based Learning (GBL) models based on ice breaking in enhancing elementary students’ self-confidence; and (2) examine whether there is a significant difference in effectiveness between the TGT and GBL models. The study employed an experimental method with a quasi-experimental design. The research subjects were 50 fourth-grade students (class 4A) at SDN Serang 11. Data were collected using questionnaires and documentation, and the instruments were tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was conducted using Microsoft Excel through: (1) descriptive analysis (mean, median, and mode), (2) prerequisite tests (normality and homogeneity), and (3) hypothesis testing using a parametric independent samples t-test. The results showed that the average posttest score of class A was 76.34, while class B scored 73.25. Thus, regarding the first hypothesis, the TGT model was more effective in improving students’ self-confidence. For the second hypothesis, the independent samples t-test yielded a significance value indicating a difference in effectiveness between the TGT and GBL models. In conclusion, there is a significant difference in effectiveness between TGT and GBL based on ice breaking in enhancing elementary students’ self-confidence.
