Abstract

Adolescent mental health is an important issue because it affects emotional, social, and academic development, especially in the early days of high school. Physical activity is known to play a role in maintaining a balance of mental health. This study aims to determine the relationship between physical activity and mental health in early adolescents in one of the high schools in Boyolali Regency. This study uses an analytical quantitative design with a cross sectional approach. The study population was 324 students, with 275 students participating using the total sampling technique. Physical activity was measured using the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ), while mental health was measured using the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS-42). Data analysis was carried out using the Spearman Rank correlation test. The results showed a significant relationship with the negative direction between physical activity and depression (p=0.002; r=-0.185), anxiety (p=0.010; r=-0.155), and stress (p=0.015; r=-0.147). These findings suggest that the higher the level of physical activity, the lower the rate of mental health disorders in adolescents. In conclusion, physical activity plays a protective factor for adolescent mental health, even though the strength of the relationship found is relatively weak.

Abstract

Anemia in adolescent girls is a public health problem due to iron deficiency triggered by menstruation and rapid growth, with a high prevalence in Junior High School students in Boyolali so that it requires a Blood Supplement Tablet (TTD) supplementation program for prevention. This study aims to analyze the relationship between teacher and peer support for TTD consumption compliance in grade VII students of Junior High School 1, 2, and 6 Boyolali in 2025. The study used a cross-sectional observational analytical design with a sample of 170 female students selected proportionate random sampling from a population of 373 female students aged 12-14 years; data collected through a validated 39-item Likert questionnaire (Cronbach alpha 0.804-0.954) measuring emotional, informational, judgmental, instrumental, and TTD adherence support; univariate analysis for frequency and bivariate distribution of Chi-Square with α=0.05. Univariate results showed equal teacher support (poor 50.6%; good 49.4%), poor peer support (51.2%), low obedience (non-compliance 57.6%; compliance 42.4%). The results of the analysis showed that there was a relationship of teacher support (p=0.000; 95% CI 2.30-8.207) and peer support (p=0.000; CI 95% 1.552-5.482) on TTD consumption adherence. Therefore, there is a need to develop a school-based TTD intervention model that prioritizes the role of teachers and peers.

Abstract

Background: Violence against children is a serious problem requiring special attention, particularly in secondary education. Sekolah Ramah Anak (SRA) is an important strategy for creating safe, inclusive, nondiscriminatory educational environments that protect students’ rights. However, its implementation still faces challenges related to stakeholder participation. Objectives: This study aimed to describe the participation of teachers, students, and parents in implementing SRA in senior high schools and vocational schools in Boyolali Regency. Methods: A descriptive quantitative study with a cross sectional design was conducted using total sampling of 27 senior high schools and vocational schools that had implemented SRA. Data were collected using the standard SRA Education Unit questionnaire and analyzed univariately. Results: Teacher participation was categorized as good in 88.9% of schools, while student participation was good in 96.3%. In contrast, parental participation remained relatively low at 55.6%, particularly in school policy formulation and contributions from alumni and the business sector. These findings emphasize the need for coordinated stakeholder engagement to ensure sustainable, comprehensive implementation of SRA. Conclusions: Schools should strengthen teacher competence, expand meaningful student participation, and increase parental involvement through continuous communication, SRA socialization, and stronger school family collaboration.

Abstract

Various health problems are still experienced by junior high school students such as anemia 32%, obesity 21.8%, active smokers 19.2%, and mental health disorders 20.7%. Responding to these conditions, the government is trying to realize healthy schools regulated in Law No. 17 of 2023 concerning Health, part Fourteenth Article 97 concerning school health. The Director General of Early Childhood Education in 2023 made a Healthy School campaign. This study aims to describe the implementation of the 5S Healthy School program (physically healthy, healthy nutrition, healthy immunization, mentally healthy, and environmentally healthy) in Junior High Schools in the assisted area of the Boyolali I Health Center. Primary data collection was carried out through a Likert scale questionnaire that has been rigorously tested for the validity with a Scale-Content Validity Index/Average (S-CVI/Ave) value of 0.95. The data were then analyzed using univariate statistical methods to produce a percentage distribution. The results of the analysis showed that the initial level of awareness of the program reached 100%, but there were still 22.22% of respondents who had not received formal socialization. The implementation of the pillars of mental and environmental health reached the very good category (88.89%). The healthy nutrition and healthy immunization pillars were also implemented in the very good category (55.56%), while the physical health pillar was implemented in the good category (66.67%). To improve the implementation of healthy schools, it is necessary to have continuous socialization from the health center as well as teacher capacity training in implementing healthy school programs.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Healthy School Campaign policy in the 5S program (Healthy Nutrition, Physically Healthy, Healthy Immunization, Healthy Mental, and Healthy Environment) in Muhammadiyah Al-Kautsar PK Kartasura Junior High School, Muhammadiyah 1 Kartasura Junior High School, and Muhammadiyah 2 Kartasura Junior High School. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with 19 informants selected through purposive sampling techniques. The data analysis uses the policy implementation theory framework of Merilee S. Grindle which includes aspects of policy content and implementation context with thematic analysis methods. The results of the study show that the implementation of policies in the 5S program in general has gone well, although the impact varies depending on leadership capacity, resource availability, and internal school regulations. SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Kartasura was identified as the most superior school by creating a regulated work system through the innovation of One Day One Student (ODOS) on the pillar of mental health, the Standardization of Healthy Canteens licensed by BPOM on the pillar of healthy and nutritious, the rules of the No Smoking Area (KTR) in student points, and the active involvement of PMR students in the UKS picket. Meanwhile, the other two schools are still implementing flexible policy strategies. The final conclusion of this study shows that the main challenge that all schools still face lies in the aspect of student behavior, especially the discipline of self-segregation of waste even though separate bin facilities are adequate.

Abstract

Background: Menstruation is an important physiological process for young women who need adequate knowledge to maintain reproductive hygiene and health. This study aims to analyze the difference in the proportion of knowledge about menstruation between adolescent girls in rural and urban areas. Method : This comparative cross-sectional research was conducted at SMPN 1 Simo (urban) and SMPN 1 Kemusu (rural) by involving 150 students selected through clustered sampling techniques. Data was collected using a closed-ended questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability, with total scores categorized based on the mean value. Univariate analysis was used to describe respondent characteristics, while bivariate analysis used chi square test with continuity correction to compare the proportion of knowledge. Result : The results showed that 59.3% of respondents had good category knowledge, with the proportion of good knowledge higher in urban areas (75.3%) than rural areas (42.5%) and statistically significant differences (p=0.001; OR = 4.1). Implication : These findings show the important role of access to information, health literacy and social environment in shaping menstrual knowledge in rural and urban areas Novelty : This study is one of the comparative studies that specifically compares the proportion of menstrual knowledge between adolescent girls in urban and rural areas in the SMPN 1 Simo and SMPN 1 Kemusu areas using clustered sampling techniques and chi square tests with continuity correction
