Abstract

Indonesia has the highest biodiversity that places ecotourism as a sustainable development sector. The negative impact of ecotourism is the vulnerability to invasive plant species growth. They invade the habitat of the native plants and potentially alter the biodiversity balance. This invasive plant introduction is predicted caused by tourist and hiker visits. Therefore, the inventory of invasive plant species is urgently needed. The field survey was conducted on March 11-12, 2017 to inventory invasive plant species along the Panderman Mountain hiking track that common travelers explored and then identified. Species of Pinus Caribaea, Chromolaena odorata, Lantana camara, Leucaena leucocephala, Pennisetum purpureum are categorized invasive plants. Four species of plants otherwise potentially invasive include Calliandra calothrysus, Ageratum conyzoides, Bidens pilosa, and Acacia deccurens. The widespread access to protected environmental destinations leads to the spread of highly invasive species. The impact of invasive species depends on factors such as reproduction rate, vegetative phase, adaptability of seeds that can withstand adverse conditions and in particular human vectors as a way of spreading them. Keywords: Batu, Ecotourism, Hiking track, Invasive plants, Panderman Mountain.

Abstract

Increasing genetic diversity of porang through mutation is urgently needed since porang has low genetic diveristy. Therefore, this study aims to increase the genetic diversity of porang using ethyl methanesulfonate (EMS) and analyze the genetic diversity of porang using RAPD markers. Porang explants were subjected to in vitro EMS induction at various concentrations (control, 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.3%, 0.4%, and 0.5%) and evaluated after 35 days. DNA amplification was carried out using 20 RAPD primers. Genetic diversity within and between porang populations was analyzed using POPGENE software, while cluster analysis was performed using PAST software to identify genetic diversity patterns. The results showed that EMS mutation induction effectively increased the genetic diversity of porang. Primers OPA-2 and OPA-9 were identified as the most effective primers for detecting genetic diversity resulting from mutation induction. The 0.2% EMS treatment is recommended because it produced the most notable genetic changes compared to the control and shows potential for generating superior mutants to support porang breeding programs.

Abstract

Students’ learning activeness is one of the important indicators of the success of the learning process. However, the results of a preliminary study conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Jayapura, Ogan Komering Ulu Timur, indicate that the level of students’ learning activeness is still not optimal, particularly in the aspect of independently seeking information. This condition is caused by the learning process that still tends to be teacher-centered, resulting in limited student involvement in learning activities. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the Search, Solve, Create, and Share (SSCS) learning model in improving students’ learning activeness in the subject of Islamic Religious Education. The study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a post-test-only control group design. The sample consisted of 57 students divided into an experimental class and a control class. Data were collected through observation and a learning activeness questionnaire. The results of the instrument testing indicate that most of the statement items were valid, with a Cronbach’s Alpha reliability coefficient of 0.738, indicating a good level of reliability. The normality test using the Shapiro–Wilk test showed significance values of 0.126 for the experimental class and 0.776 for the control class (p > 0.05), indicating that the data were normally distributed, while the homogeneity test using Levene’s Test obtained a significance value of 0.061 (p > 0.05), indicating that the variances of the two groups were homogeneous. Furthermore, the results of the independent sample t-test showed a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05 with a t value of 7.406. Therefore, it can be concluded that the SSCS learning model is effective in improving students’ learning activeness in Islamic Religious Education learning at the senior high school level. Abstract

Reactive Black 5 (RB5) is an azo dye widely used in the textile industry and improper processing of this dye can harmful to the aquatic environment, including limited light penetration and potential carcinogenic and mutagenic effects on aquatic organisms. Therefore, RB5 in waters needs to be handled seriously, one of which is through bioremediation efforts using Cholera vulgaris. Meanwhile, chlorella growth is highly dependent on various light spectrums. This study aimed to examine the effect of different light spectrums (red, blue, and white) on C. vulgaris cell density-based growth and its ability to decolorate RB5. A completely randomized design with three replications was applied using 30 mg/L RB5 solution, and was conducted for 12 days at laboratoty. Cell density was measured by a hemocytometer, and dye concentration was analyzed using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The results showed that blue light produced the highest algal growth, reaching 2.78 × 10⁷ cells/mL on the ninth day. Meanwhile, white light produced the greatest RB5 decolorization, reaching 80% reduction on the last day. These findings highlight the role of different light spectrums in optimizing algal cell density and dye removal efficiency.

Abstract

Mudskipper is a brackish water fish with high protein content and potential as an alternative source of protein. One of its natural habitats is the Clungup Mangrove Conservation (CMC) Tiga Warna area. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the protein content of mudskipper and examine its relationship with environmental factors and sediment organic carbon in the mangrove ecosystem. Samples of mudskipper (Periophthalmus gracilis and Periophthalmus modestus), environmental parameters, and organic carbon were collected using purposive sampling at five stations. Protein content was determined using the Lowry method, while organic carbon was analyzed using the Walkley-Black method. Data were analyzed using ANOVA, and relationships among variables were assessed using Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The results showed that protein content ranged from 11.55% to 18.55%. The highest pH was recorded at station 2 (7.437), temperature at station 1 (30.667°C), dissolved oxygen at station 3 (4.400 mg/L), salinity and total dissolved solids at station 5 (41 ppt; 27,833,333.33 ppm), and organic carbon at station 5 (1.995%). PCA indicated that protein content was positively associated with organic carbon and pH, but not with temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, or total dissolved solids. Furthermore, protein content did not significantly differ between species or sampling stations.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study was motivated by the low academic achievement and lack of higher-order thinking skills among students in the Islamic Religious Education (IRE) course at SMP Negeri 1 Kota Agung Timur, where instruction is still dominated by one-way Direct Instruction. This situation has led to a lack of active student participation and suboptimal achievement in the cognitive domain at the C4 level. This study aims to test the effectiveness of the Time Token learning model on PAI learning outcomes. The study employs a quantitative approach using an experimental method and a post-test only control group design. The research sample consisted of 64 eighth-grade students selected through cluster sampling, comprising an experimental class (VIII D) that implemented the Time Token model and a control class (VIII F) that used the Direct Instruction model. The research instrument was a multiple-choice test based on Bloom’s Taxonomy, which had been tested for validity and reliability, with 16 items deemed suitable for use. Data were analyzed using normality and homogeneity tests, as well as the Mann–Whitney U hypothesis test. The results showed that the mean score of the experimental class was higher than that of the control class, and the majority of students in the experimental class had achieved the established Minimum Passing Score (MPS) of 76, whereas in the control class, there were still students who had not reached the MPS. Furthermore, the Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value < 0.05 indicates the presence of a significant.

Abstract

Ensuring the authenticity of halal-labeled food products is a growing global concern, particularly due to recurring reports of adulteration with non-permissible components such as pork. Molecular techniques, especially polymerase chain reaction (PCR), offer a sensitive and specific means to detect pork DNA in processed meats, where traditional protein-based assays often fail due to denaturation. This study evaluates the sensitivity of five pork-specific mitochondrial DNA primers, ND5, Cytochrome B(1), Cytochrome B(2), PPA8, and Pork (F2/R1), for detecting Sus scrofa DNA in processed meat products using conventional PCR. Genomic DNA was extracted from corned pork and beef meatball samples and amplified using each primer under optimized conditions. Of the five primers tested, only PPA8, Pork (F2/R1), and Cytochrome B(2) produced clear, specific amplicons in pork samples, with no cross-reactivity observed in beef samples. PPA8 and Pork (F2/R1) demonstrated the strongest and most consistent amplification, suggesting superior sensitivity and reliability. ND5 and Cytochrome B(1) showed poor performance, indicating limited applicability in processed food matrices. These findings confirm the utility of selected primers in halal authentication and highlight the importance of empirical validation in primer selection. Future work should focus on expanding primer testing across diverse processed food types and incorporating quantitative PCR to establish detection thresholds.
