Abstract

Hyperglycemia is a medical condition characterized by elevated blood glucose levels above normal, which is a characteristic of several diseases, particularly diabetes mellitus (DM) and other conditions. In DM, hyperglycemia is associated with inflammation that increases TNF-α and IL-1β cytokines through NF-kB activation. DM treatment with antidiabetic drugs has side effects, such as diarrhea, vomiting, and peripheral edema, necessitating alternative therapies like andalas tree bark extract. This study aimed to determine the effect of andalas tree bark extract (Morus macroura Miq.) on IL-1β gene transcript expression in the pancreas of hyperglycemic rats. This experimental study utilized 24 rats divided into 6 groups: normal control (K-), hyperglycemic control (K+), metformin 500mg control (K), and three treatment groups(P1, P2, P3) with extract doses of 100, 200, and 300 mg/kgBW. Results showed that the mean IL-1β gene concentrations in K-, K+, K, P1, P2, and P3 were 0.09, 1.24, 0.38, 0.12, 1.12, and 1.76 respectively, with significant differences observed (p=0.032). The andalas tree bark extract (Morus macroura Miq.) was most effective at a dose of 100 mg/kg BW for reducing IL-1β expression, while a dose of 200 mg/kg BW was effective in reducing blood glucose levels and increasing body weight in hyperglycemic rats.

Abstract

Lead (Pb) is a toxic metal that is used to trigger oxidative stress. Oxidative stress causes damage to organs, especially the liver increasing aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT). This study aims to determine the synergistic effect of antioxidant as Java plum leaf extract and vitamin C together on lead-induced levels of AST and ALT in rats.This type of research is true experimental research with a randomized posttest-only-control group design. The study used 20 male white rats which were divided into 4 groups. The treatment was carried out for 30 days. The examination for AST and ALT levels using the Micro Lab 300 with the Sample Star method. Data analysis was performed by using One-way Anova and Post Hoc-Turkey HSD.In this study, The results were obtained in the form of a decrease in AST and ALT levels in rats that had been induced lead acetate 40 mg/KgBW by administration of Java plum leaf extract dose 75 mg/KgBW and vitamin C dose 35 mg/KgBW as well as the administration of Java plum leaf extract at a dose of 150 mg / KgBB and vitamin C dose of 75 mg / KgBB with significant influence at the lower dose (p=0,01).It can be concluded that administrating of Java plum leaf extract dose 75 mg/KgBB and vitamin C dose 35 mg/KgBB was effective to protect the liver based on the decrease of AST and ALT levels in rats that had been induced lead acetate dose 40 mg/KgBB

Abstract

Latar Belakang: Kolelitiasis atau batu empedu menjadi salah satu masalah bagian gastrointestinal paling umum yang memengaruhi sekitar 10-20% populasi dunia. Kejadian kolelitiasis dikaitkan dengan Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) dan kadar profil lipid. Objektif: Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui hubungan NAFLD dengan kadar profil lipid pada pasien kolelitiasis yang dilakukan laparoskopi kolesistektomi. Metode: Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian analitik dengan desain cross sectional dengan data sekunder dari rekam medis pasien kolelitiasis yang dilaparoskopi kolesistektomi di ruang operasi IBS RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang. Teknik pengambilan sampel adalah purposive sampling yaitu jumlah sampel yang memenuhi kriteria inkulsi dan ekslusi sebanyak 40 pasien. Hasil: Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan pasien kolelitiasis yang dilakukan laparoskopi kolesistektomi terbanyak adalah pasien dewasa yaitu 19-59 tahun (72,5%). Sebagian besar pasien berjenis kelamin perempuan (67,5%) dan indeks massa tubuh terbanyak adalah obesitas tipe 1 (35%). Kebanyakan pasien mengalami NAFLD (77,5%) dengan terbanyak adalah grade 2 (37,5%). Hasil uji statistik menunjukkan bahwa tidak terdapat hubungan antara NAFLD dengan kolestserol total (p>0,05), kolestserol HDL (p>0,05), kolesterol LDL (p>0,05), maupun trigliserida (p>0,05). Kesimpulan: Tidak terdapat hubungan antara NAFLD dengan kadar profil lipid pada pasien kolelitiasis yang dilakukan laparoskopi kolesistektomi.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the methanol extract of petai seeds on the cholesterol levels of Wistar strain rats induced by a high-fat diet. Methods: True experimental research with post test only control group design using 25 rats which were divided into 5 groups, namely the control group (negative and positive) and the treatment group (treatments 1, 2 and 3). High-fat diet for 30 days was given to groups K+, P1, P2, and P3. Then continued with the administration of methanol extract of petai seeds in the treatment group with each dose of 100 mg/kgBW, 200 mg/kgBW, and 400 mg/kgBW for 10 days. The mean cholesterol levels were checked using the CHOD-PAP method and data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis and Post-Hoc Mann-Whitney nonparametric tests. Results: The results showed that the administration of petai seed methanol extract at doses of 100 mg/kgBW, 200 mg/kgBW, and 400 mg/kgBW had a significant difference with the positive control group (p<0.05). Conclusion : This study showed the methanol extract of petai seeds had effectiveness in lowering cholesterol levels in wistar strain rats induced by high fat diet.

Abstract

Tujuan : mengetahui hubungan indeks massa tubuh dengan kadar glukosa darah puasa dan tekanan darah pada tenaga kependidikan Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Andalas. Metode : Jenis penelitian ini merupakan penelitian analitik dengan desain penelitian cross-sectional dengan subjek penelitian sebanyak 37 orang yang dilaksanakan di Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Andalas pada tanggal 08 September 2021. Metode pengambilan sampel ini dengan total sampling, analisis data hubungan indeks massa tubuh dengan kadar glukosa darah puasa dan tekanan darah menggunakan uji korelasi Spearman. Hasil: Nilai median indeks massa tubuh sebesar 24,22 Kg/, nilai rerata 24,94 Kg/, nilai minimum sebesar 16,23 Kg/ dan nilai maksimum 40,15 Kg/. Nilai median kadar glukosa darah puasa 127 mg/dL, nilai rerata 143,65 mg/dL, nilai minimum sebesar 93 mg/dL dan nilai maksimum 399 mg/dL. Nilai median dari tekanan darah 126 mmHg,nilai rerata 128,7 mmHg,  nilai minimum 94 mmHg, dan nilai maksimum 213 mmHg. Tidak terdapat korelasi bermakna antara indeks massa tubuh dengan kadar glukosa darah puasa (p=0,203) ataupun pada indeks massa tubuh dengan tekanan darah (p= 0,097) pada subjek penelitian. Kesimpulan: tidak terdapat korelasi bermakna antara indeks massa tubuh dengan kadar glukosa darah puasa dan antara indeks massa tubuh dengan tekanan darah pada tenaga kependidikan pada Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Andalas.
