Abstract

This paper explores the role and identity of the Jalur Shaman within the Pacu Jalur rowing tradition inKuantan Singingi Regency, Indonesia. While the original approach adopts a historical-biographicalmethod, this revision reframes the study through a discourse-analytic lens to better interrogate how theshaman’s role, ritual language, and spiritual objects function as symbolic practices. The central figure,Jasri, a renowned shaman, guides the spiritual preparation of rowing teams through ritual prayers, protective symbols, and oral transmission of traditional values. Drawing from interviews and culturalobservation, the study investigates how speech, artifacts, and biography co-construct the Jalur Shaman'slegitimacy. Adopting theoretical insights from Critical Discourse Analysis and Ritual Theory, the studyanalyzes prayers as performative speech acts and the shaman’s tools (e.g., knives, necklaces) as culturaltexts encoding meanings of defense, identity, and cosmological belief. The article reveals how theauthority of a shaman is not inherited, but constructed through community narratives, ritualperformance, and symbolic alignment with ancestral power. Findings suggest that the shaman’s discoursesustains a sacred space where tradition is enacted, remembered, and renewed. Beyond preservingheritage, Jasri’s role reflects resistance against modern secularization and provides a platform forcollective spiritual identity in the postcolonial context. The study recommends incorporating discourse-sensitive approaches to analyze spiritual roles in Indigenous communities and preserving oral texts as partof intangible cultural heritage. Future research could explore the tension between institutional religiousframeworks and localized spiritual discourse in similar traditions across Southeast Asia.

Abstract

This study investigates how the National Amil Zakat Agency (BAZNAS) constructs its institutional image and legitimacy in disaster management through discourse. Using Teun A. van Dijk’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) framework, the research explores textual, cognitive, and contextual dimensions of BAZNAS’s disaster response narratives. The study analyzes official publications, press releases, and media reports to reveal how language is strategically employed to shape public perception of BAZNAS as both a faith-based and professional humanitarian actor. The findings demonstrate that BAZNAS incorporates Syariah legitimacy (endorsed by the Indonesian Ulema Council's Fatwa No. 66/2022), technocratic legitimacy (achieved through ISO 9001:2015 certification and unqualified audit opinions), and political legitimacy (via endorsements from State officials). These layers of discourse position BAZNAS as a quasi-state institution bridging religious duty and bureaucratic professionalism. At the superstructural level, narratives emphasize rapid response, organizational efficiency, and structured governance, while micro-level analysis highlights rhetorical strategies such as quantification, metaphors of heroism, and digital transparency that reinforce credibility and public trust. This study concludes that BAZNAS’s discourse transforms the meaning of Zakat from a traditional act of charity into a modern instrument of disaster governance and social resilience. By linking faith-based values with managerial and state-endorsed frameworks, BAZNAS strengthens its role as a central actor in Indonesia’s philanthropic ecosystem. The research contributes to the understanding of Islamic philanthropy, discourse, and power relations in the context of humanitarian crises.

Abstract

Skin problems caused by Staphylococcus aureus infection remain a challenge in healthcare and personal hygiene due to their ability to trigger inflammatory responses through the activation of pro-inflammatory cytokines. The extensive use of synthetic antibacterial agents such as triclosan in body wash products has contributed to bacterial resistance, highlighting the need for safer natural alternatives. Nyamplung seed oil contains bioactive compounds, including calophyllolide, inophyllum B, flavonoids, and triterpenoids, which exhibit antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. Aloe vera also contains aloin, emodin, saponins, and polysaccharides with antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. This study aimed to evaluate the potential of nyamplung seed oil and aloe vera extracts as active ingredients in body wash formulations to inhibit Staphylococcus aureus growth and alleviate skin inflammation. A laboratory experimental design was employed, in which nyamplung seed oil was extracted using the Soxhlet method, while aloe vera was processed by blending and concentrated through heating. The formulated body wash showed a pH of 9.45, homogeneous liquid consistency, yellow color, and a characteristic aroma of nyamplung oil. Antibacterial testing revealed an inhibition zone diameter of 28 mm against Staphylococcus aureus, indicating strong antibacterial potential.

Abstract

The main problem felt in a person who has a fracture is pain. Pain perception is personal and subjective; no two individuals perceive pain in identical patterns. Pain management can be done pharmacologically and non-pharmacologically. Non-pharmacological with deep breathing exercise and dhikr therapy can balance serotonin and norepineprin levels in the body and distract attention.. This study aimed to lower the scale of pain in fracture patients. Data from the Trauma Center room of Dr. M Djamil Padang Hospital for the last 3 months, namely February-April 20224, the number of femur fracture incidents is 62 cases. Descriptive observational research design in the form of a case report. The study was conducted in the Trauma Center Room of RSUP Dr. M Djamil Padang. The research time is from April 16-May 4, 2024. The population was all femoral fracture patients with a sample of 2 people taken by accidental sampling. The results of the application of deep breathing exercise and dhikr therapy showed a decrease in pain intensity before the intervention, namely a scale of 7 in the first patient and 6 in the second patient, after being given finger grip relaxation therapy, which was a scale of 3 in the first patient and 2 in the second patient.
