Abstract

This study aims to describe elementary school teachers’ perceptions of the essence of education and educational science, as well as their relevance to the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum. Education, as a process of developing students’ potential, requires teachers to understand the philosophical, theoretical, and practical foundations of educational science in order to implement the curriculum effectively. This research employed a qualitative descriptive method with data collected through interviews, questionnaires, and documentation studies involving elementary school teachers from several schools. The findings reveal that most teachers have a good understanding of the essence of education as an effort to shape character, develop competencies, and instill moral values. However, gaps remain in their comprehension of educational science as a scientific foundation that guides educational practices. The relevance to the Merdeka Curriculum is reflected in teachers’ efforts to emphasize student-centered learning, differentiation, and character strengthening in line with the Profil Pelajar Pancasila. In conclusion, teachers’ perceptions of the essence of education and educational science contribute significantly to the effective implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum, although strengthening teachers’ conceptual and pedagogical insights is still needed to ensure more comprehensive and applicable understanding.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the learning difficulties experienced by fifth-grade students at Yayasan Al-Hidayah and identify innovative solutions in the learning process. The research uses a descriptive quantitative method with data collected through questionnaires. The results indicate that students still face challenges in understanding the material, primarily due to the fast pace of the teacher's explanations, a lack of supporting media and teaching aids, and limited learning facilities. The most difficult subjects for students to understand are Mathematics, followed by English and Science. Despite these challenges, parental involvement in supporting the learning process is relatively good, and students tend to prefer interactive learning, such as educational games, group discussions, experiments, and the use of digital media. Based on these findings, there is a need for innovation in learning, focusing on technology-based learning, the use of more varied teaching aids, and the application of creative strategies to enhance motivation, understanding, and student learning outcomes. Such innovations are expected to provide more engaging and effective learning experiences for students, addressing the difficulties they encounter in learning.

Abstract

This study aims to enhance the understanding of fifth-grade students at SDN 060786 in the subject of Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS), specifically the topic "Economic Conditions in My Region," through the use of diorama media. The research uses the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method with the spiral model by Kemmis and McTaggart, which includes the stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. This study was conducted in two cycles, with data collected through learning outcome tests, observations of the learning process, and interviews with the teacher to gather feedback on the use of diorama media. The results of the study show a significant improvement in both conceptual understanding and learning outcomes of the students after the implementation of diorama media. The students also demonstrated increased engagement in the learning process, becoming more active and motivated to participate in the activities. Moreover, the use of diorama media helped students understand abstract concepts more easily than through text or verbal explanations alone. These findings emphasize that the teacher’s creativity in selecting and utilizing appropriate learning media plays a crucial role in creating an interactive, meaningful, and enjoyable learning environment, ultimately improving the quality of student learning outcomes.

Abstract

This research uses the ADDIE development model to develop Canva-based e-comics on dance art materials for grade III students at SD Negeri 066650 Medan in the even semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. This research involved 30 class III students as subjects, 3 expert validations, and 1 teacher with the aim of testing the feasibility of e-comic media in dance art subjects in the independent curriculum. Validation by material experts, media experts, and question experts showed that this e-comic scored high, material experts gave a score of 47 out of 50 (91.1%), media experts gave it a score of 62 out of 65 (94%), and question experts gave it a score of 26 out of 30 (86.65%). Teachers also gave high scores for practicality tests (97%), with all aspects such as appearance, material, and language getting 'very decent' and 'valid' categories. The evaluation results showed a significant improvement in student learning outcomes as seen from the comparison of student pretest and post scores, with the validity and reliability of the questions tested using the SPSS version 26 application. This study recommends using Canva-based e-comic as an effective and interesting learning medium in supporting interactive and creative learning in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study aims to see and understand the difficulties experienced by grade 3 students in learning English at UPT SD Negeri 060866. In the learning process, there are still many students who do not understand basic vocabulary, are confused about pronouncing words, and have difficulty following simple instructions in English. In addition, several factors such as lack of practice, shyness to speak, and lack of confidence are also major causes. This study uses a descriptive approach by observing learning activities in the classroom and conducting simple interviews with teachers. As a result, it was found that students need more interactive learning methods, the use of visual media, and repetitive exercises to make the material easier to understand. By understanding these difficulties, teachers can adjust learning strategies to better suit the needs of grade 3 students

Abstract

This study aims to examine how English teachers' teaching methods influence the understanding of 3A students at Pelangi Elementary School regarding the “Daily Activity” material. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method through observation, interviews, analysis of student documents, as well as photo and video documentation. The results show that teachers use a combination of lecture methods, question and answer sessions, visual media, and simple activities such as role-play. These methods make learning more interesting and easier to understand. The average score for student knowledge is 87.42 and their skills are 88.95, indicating that most students are able to understand simple vocabulary and sentences about daily activities. Factors that support successful learning include material that is relevant to students' lives, the use of clear media, attention to differences in student abilities, and a positive and motivating classroom atmosphere. This study concludes that a combination of lectures, question and answer sessions, and interactive activities can improve students' understanding of English learning in elementary school.

Abstract

This study analyzes pronunciation learning activities in the English class at SDN 060877 through direct classroom observation techniques. The research aims to understand how teachers organize pronunciation instruction, the strategies applied during learning sessions, and the level of student participation in practicing correct sounds, stress patterns, and intonation. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through on-site observations focusing on teaching procedures, interaction patterns, learning media, and students’ responses. The findings indicate that pronunciation learning is integrated into reading and speaking activities, where the teacher models sound, guides repetition drills, and provides corrective feedback. Students demonstrate varied levels of confidence, with some actively engaging in pronunciation tasks while others rely heavily on teacher prompts. Environmental factors, such as limited audio-media tools and large class size, affect the intensity and effectiveness of practice sessions. Despite these challenges, classroom interactions show that learners gradually improve their sound accuracy and rhythm through continuous modeling and peer practice. This study concludes that direct observation provides comprehensive insights into real classroom dynamics, revealing both the strengths and areas needing improvement in pronunciation teaching. Recommendations are offered to enhance instructional techniques, learning materials, and student engagement.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the English proficiency level of upper-grade students at SD Terpadu Muhammadiyah 36 Medan and formulate learning strategies relevant to their linguistic development needs. The research used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques including interviews and documentation. The results show that the students' proficiency is still at an elementary level, with the main problems being vocabulary mastery, pronunciation accuracy, and understanding of simple sentence structures. The identified inhibiting factors include low exposure to language in the family environment and minimal parental support for learning activities. Based on these findings, innovative learning strategies were formulated through the application of the Total Physical Response (TPR) method, the use of simple digital media, the simplification of linguistic input, and the strengthening of learning motivation through positive reinforcement techniques. The implementation of these strategies is projected to improve the quality of learning interactions, student participation, and English language competency achievement at the elementary school level.
