Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic that has hit various parts of the world, including Indonesia, has had an impact on society. One of the layers of society that has experienced this impact is students. With the large-scale social restrictions, Indonesian students do a lot of activities at home. Many students become concerned with themselves, but there are also students who feel bored because of low social interaction which in turn causes high food consumption and sedentary behaviour at home. The objective of this study to determine changes in body weight, food consumption and lifestyle in Indonesian students. The design of this study was cross sectional, with descriptive analysis conducted on 1185 students in Indonesia. The results of the study stated that the pandemic had an impact on Indonesian students. During the pandemic as many as 67.1% of students experienced changes in the size of their BB. Most of the students experienced moderate stress (77.1%), and bad sedentary behaviour by 63.4%. However, diet and exercise habits have changed for the better as much as 52.6% and 63.7%, respectively. Indonesian students need to pay more attention to changes in body weight and lifestyle during the pandemic so as not to have a negative impact on health and nutritional status.

Abstract

Indonesia has diabetes alert status because it ranks 7th out of 10 countries with the highest number of diabetes patients. There are five main pillars in diabetes management: education, medical nutrition therapy, physical activity, pharmacology, and independent blood sugar monitoring. Education is the first pillar that can be done with the help of easily accessible and sustainable media, one of which is the website. One of the important steps in developing educational media is to validate the media by professionals and respondents of the target group. The objective of this study is to know the development and validation of "Gizinesia" as an educational medium for Diabetes Mellitus patients according to professionals and respondents with diabetes. This research is quantitative research with a methodology approach in three steps: development, validity, and evaluation with a sample of 11 professionals and 20 respondents with diabetes. Based on validity tests by professionals, the website content was declared valid with a CVR with a CVI value of ≥ 0.80. The website construct was valid with an average calculation of r≥ 0.632. However, out of 18 items found three invalid items. Based on the validity test by diabetic respondents, the website content was found to be valid with Mean I-CVI = 0.95. However, out of 15 items, 1 item was found to be invalid and the website construct was declared valid with an average r≥ 0.7. However, of the 16 items found two items with low correlation. Therefore, the results of the validation of the "Gizinesia" website as a nutrition education medium for Diabetes Mellitus patients are valid. However, they need improvement by making an illustrated video and following the "10/20/30 Rule".

Abstract

Based on RISKESDAS 2018, diarrhea prevalence in Banten was 7.5%. While national prevalence was 6.8%. Diarrhea is the number one causal of inpatients at Indonesian hospitals. Incorrect breastfeeding and complementary feeding practices were some causal of nutritional problems. Complementary feeding practices need a proper delivery time, frequency, type, foods amount, and how to made. This was due to mothers’ ignorance of benefits and the correct way of giving complementary feeding so that it affects the mother's attitude. This study aimed to know the correlation of complementary feeding practices and diarrhea incidence toward nutrition status for infants at 6-24 months of age at RSIA PKU Muhammadiyah Cipondoh. This is a descriptive quantitative study with cross-sectional approach using primary data through interview with questionnaire and Recall 24-Hours. Total sample of infants (6-24 months of age) were 80. Statistical data processed using chi-square test. Data statistically showed that the age of complementary feeding had pValue=0.589, frequency with pValue=0.193, total energy intake pValue=0.22, OR=0.754, total protein intake p=0.016, OR=4.952, texture pValue=0.341, portion pValue=0.009, and the incidence of diarrhea had pValue=0.079. There was a correlation between total energy intake, protein intake, and portion of complementary foods toward nutrition status at RSIA PKU Muhammadiyah Cipondoh. Keywords: complementary feeding practices, diarrhea, nutrition status

Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) has become a significant public health issue in Asia, with significantly increasing prevalence rates in recent decades, especially affecting blood glucose levels in patients with this type of diabetes. This study aimed to examine the correlation between body composition and fasting blood glucose levels in subjects with diabetes mellitus type 2.  The observational research used a cross-sectional design that included a sample of 68 subjects, conducted between August and May 2024 at the RSUP Fatmawati Hospital in Jakarta.  Data were analyzed using the chi-square test for bivariate analysis, and analysis of variance was used to compare the variables. Body composition was measured using body impedance analysis (BIA), physical activity levels were measured using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short Form (IPAQ-SF), and fasting blood glucose was measured using Accu-Chek Instant Strips. Dietary and beverage consumption habits, familial health history, smoking habits, sleep duration, and physical activity level were assessed using a structured questionnaire. The results showed a positive relationship between nutritional status, percent body fat, and waist circumference, with a negative correlation between muscle mass and fasting blood sugar levels. In conclusion, nutritional status, percent body fat, waist circumference, and muscle mass were associated  with  fasting blood glucose levels.

Abstract

Excessive consumption of ultra-processed foods (UPFs), which are typically high in fat content, and insufficient physical activity may adversely influence adolescents’ nutritional status and lead to abdominal obesity. This condition can occur due to individual’s lack of knowledge and eating preferences, which in turn influence adolescents’ consumption behavior. This research aimed to determine the relationship between knowledge, eating preferences, UPF consumption behavior, and nutritional status among students at Citra Kasih Junior High School, Tangerang. This research was cross-sectional with a sample of 102 students carried out in January 2024. The inclusion criteria were students who were physically healthy, willing to participate, not on a specific diet, and not taking diuretic drugs. Data were analyzed using Pearson and Spearman correlation tests. The results showed most respondents had normal nutritional status (58.8%) and low levels of knowledge about UPFs (53.9%). No significant correlations were found between knowledge, UPF eating preferences, and BMI-for-age, nor between knowledge, UPF eating preferences, UPF consumption behavior, and WHR (p > 0.05). However, a significant correlation was observed between UPF consumption behavior and BMI-for-age (p < 0.05). In conclusion, UPF consumption behavior was significantly correlated with adolescents’ nutritional status based on BMI-for-age.
