Abstract

This research aims to analyze the quality of marine waters in the Saugi Island area, North Liukang Tupabbiring District, Pangkep Regency, and its impact on marine biota. This research uses a descriptive quantitative approach by processing data from field measurements and laboratory tests on several parameters. Furthermore, the test results will be compared with the standard requirements for seawater quality for the needs of marine biota by referring to the Decree of the Minister of the Environment No. 51 of 2004. In addition, a spatial analysis is carried out to see the predicted concentration distribution pattern for each measurement parameter. each of these parameters. The research results show that of the 10 research stations, only station 4 meets several seawater quality standards. The presence of waste at each station plays a significant role in reducing the value of quality parameters. In conclusion, the quality of seawater on the coast of Saugi Island is not good for marine biota. Therefore, efforts are needed to maintain the cleanliness of the coastal environment so that air quality is maintained, supports the life of marine biota, increases catches, and the potential for sustainability of marine ecosystems.

Abstract

Climate change is one of the biggest challenges and threats to humanity today whose impact has very high dynamics. The high population density, population number, and population activity cause physical changes that affect the microclimate. Microclimate change can reduce people's thermal comfort/temperature humidity index (THI). The impact felt by the community is in the form of discomfort in outdoor activities, health risks such as heat stress, impact on agriculture and natural resource conservation, and animal health on farms to impact emergency response in disaster situations. Moreover, the summer of 2023, a record-breaking summer in 2023, continues the long-term warming trend, indicating the need for a study on the state of THI. This study aims to analyze THI trends and map the distribution of THI in South Sulawesi Province in 2013-2023. The method used in this study is a quantitative-descriptive method through a remote sensing approach using Google Earth Engine (GEE). The Temperature Humidity Index (THI) of South Sulawesi Province in the 2013-2023 time bracket with a cold category with a THI value of 21 °C has an area of 994384.62 hectares, the comfortable category with a THI value of 21°C – 24°C has an area of 1190393.32 hectares, the fairly comfortable category with a THI value of 24 °C – 26°C has an area of 1810662.30 hectares and the uncomfortable category with a THI value of 26°C has an area of 532780.13 hectares.

Abstract

Urban Heat Island is a phenomenon where surface temperatures are higher in urban areas than in rural areas. One of the cities that experienced this phenomenon was the city of Pare-pare, which was caused by the conversion of vegetation land into settlements due to rapid population growth. This study aims to determine the influence of land use on the Urban Heat Island phenomenon in Pare-pare City. The methods used include spatial analysis and descriptive analysis, secondary data collection in the study was obtained from the Indonesian Geospatial portal and Google Earth Engine and using ArcGis 10.8 software in conducting spatial analysis. The results of the analysis show that there are relationships such as Soreang, Ujung, West Bacukiki and also the north of Bacukiki District which experiences the Urban Heat Island phenomenon due to dense settlements and many road networks. Areas with land cover in the form of settlements and roads have higher surface temperatures than areas with high land cover in the form of vegetation such as the southeastern part of Bakkiki District. The impact of Urban Heat Island is that it causes a decrease in air quality and excessive energy use. The recommended mitigation is the implementation of environmentally friendly infrastructure such as greening around buildings, green roofs, and small parks. The results of this study can be used as useful information for the government in making sustainable spatial planning policies and to evaluate development to reduce the impact of Urban Heat Island.
