Abstract

This study aimed to isolate and characterize cellulolytic bacteria from mangrove leaf litter in the Bale Mangrove ecosystem, East Lombok. A descriptive-explorative method was employed involving serial dilution, CMC agar culture, morphological and biochemical identification, Gram staining, and qualitative cellulase activity testing using Congo red. A total of 15 bacterial isolates were obtained and analyzed. All isolates were Gram-positive, predominantly rod-shaped (bacilli), and exhibited varied colony morphologies. Biochemical tests revealed diverse metabolic capabilities, and seven isolates demonstrated cellulolytic activity, with isolate P2.2 showing the highest cellulolytic index (IS = 3.78). The findings indicate the presence of highly active cellulolytic bacteria in local mangrove litter with potential roles in natural cellulose degradation. This research confirms the ecological relevance of local microbial diversity and suggests further exploration of their enzymatic potential for biotechnology and environmental management.

Abstract

Sekotong is a region in the West Nusa Tenggara Province, characterized by its coastal area with significant potential natural resources for marine fisheries. The feasibility of water quality for marine aquaculture can be assessed through quantitative and qualitative tests on the biota inhabiting a water body, such as phytoplankton. This research aims to determine the abundance and diversity of phytoplankton in the coastal waters of Batu Kijuk. A 20 μm plankton net was used to filter seawater samples taken as much as 100 L of water. Preserving water samples using formalin with a concentration of 4%. Data analysis uses calculations of individual abundance, species diversity and dominance index. The random sampling method was used to determine the sampling location. The research results mean the average abundance of phytoplankton is 256,667 Ind/L. The species diversity index (H'=2.41) was grouped into an intermediate index and a species dominance index (C=0.13). The research results showed that the phytoplankton community identified in Batu Kijuk Beach waters consisted of 4 classes and 36 species.

Abstract

Beautiful beetles are a group of insects that play an important role in maintaining ecosystem balance, ecotourism and education. Suranadi Nature Park, as one of the conservation areas in Indonesia, has great potential in maintaining the biodiversity of these insects. However, information on the dispersion pattern of beautiful beetle species in this area is still very limited so this research is important. The data collection method was carried out by survey, by capturing and directly documenting the beetles encountered during the exploration of the forest of TWA Suranadi. Data collection was carried out in June 2024 on the edge, middle of the forest and waterways. The samples obtained were brought to the Biology Education laboratory of FKIP Unram for identification. The results showed that the distribution pattern of beautiful beetles in Suranadi Nature Tourism Park has three distribution patterns, namely group distribution patterns of 21%, Uniform 72% and random distribution patterns 7%. In conclusion, the distribution pattern of beautiful insects in Suranadi Nature Park is different. The dominant uniform distribution pattern, then the group distribution pattern and the least random distribution pattern.

Abstract

The presence and sustainability of mangrove plants can be inferred from the species' composition and organization within a forest region. The goal of this study is to ascertain the environmental conditions of the mangrove ecosystem in the Teluk Jor region of East Lombok Regency, as well as the diversity index of mangrove species and the structure and composition of the mangrove vegetation. Purposive sampling is used in this descriptive exploratory study design, and data is gathered utilizing transects and quadrants. The results of the research found 7 types of mangroves with 4 families namely the rhizophoraceae family (Rhizophora mucronata, Rhizophora apiculata and Ceriops tagal), the sonneratiaceae family (Sonneratia alba and Sonneratia caseolaris), the avicenniaceae family (Avicennia marina) and the combretaceae family (Lumnitzera racemosa). Sonneratia alba has a relative frequency (FR) value of 63.16%, relative density (KR) of 80.33%, and the highest relative dominance of 78.84% followed by Rhizophora apiculata, Sonneratia caseolaris and Avicennia marina. Seven mangrove species and four families with the greatest important value index belong to Sonneratia alba, according to the research's findings. The sapling category's diversity index was categorized as medium, while the tree category's diversity index was categorized as low.
