Abstract

Digital technology advancements have created innovative opportunities in early childhood education, particularly through digital storytelling. This research is motivated by challenges in developing expressive language skills in children in the digital era and the lack of comprehensive literature on the effectiveness of digital storytelling in Indonesian early childhood education contexts. This study aims to explore and analyze the phenomenon of using digital storytelling as a learning medium to develop expressive language skills in children aged 5-6 years. The research employed a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, involving 15 children and 8 teachers at Darul Mustofa Burneh Kindergarten, Bangkalan, Madura. The results indicate that digital storytelling significantly improves children's ability to express ideas, retell stories with more complex structures, and develop new vocabulary. Thematic analysis identified four main themes: (1) Improved Quality and Complexity of Expressive Language, (2) Increased Active Participation and Duration of Children's Speaking, (3) Positive Impact on Introverted Children, and (4) Increased Social and Collaborative Learning. This study concludes that appropriate and curriculum-integrated use of digital storytelling can be an effective strategy in developing expressive language skills in early childhood. This research contributes to the developme nt of innovative technology-based learning models that align with the developmental characteristics of children in the digital era.

Abstract

This community service program aims to enhance the professional competence of SIKK teachers through VAKE-based training that integrates moral and knowledge dimensions in the teaching process. The training was attended by 32 teachers and implemented through collaborative learning. Pre-test, post-test, and ethical dilemma creation were used as analysis techniques. These data were analyzed descriptively to calculate mean scores, percentage increases, and N-gain values to determine improvements in participants’ understanding of the VAKE approach. The results showed an increase in teachers’ understanding of the integration of values and knowledge in learning, with an average score of 88.6, indicating an improvement of 8.6 points (43.5%) compared to the pre-test results. This finding suggests that participants’ understanding improved significantly after receiving the training materials through the community service program. Participants also successfully designed ethical dilemmas as learning media to promote students’ critical thinking. Overall, this community service program contributed to improving teachers’ pedagogical competence, strengthening students’ character, and supporting the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4.

Abstract

This study explores how lecturers across five departments at Narotama University—Early Childhood Education (PG PAUD), Civil Engineering, Economics and Business, Computer Science, and Law—interpret and apply andragogical principles within project-based learning (PjBL). Using a qualitative phenomenological design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with five purposively selected lecturers who had at least two semesters of PjBL experience. Thematic analysis revealed four major themes: (1) the shifting role of lecturers from information transmitters to facilitators; (2) increased student autonomy and engagement; (3) challenges related to students’ readiness for self-directed learning; and (4) the role of reflection in lecturers’ professional growth. The findings indicate that while andragogy aligns strongly with PjBL, its implementation is highly contextual, requiring adaptations based on disciplinary demands and student characteristics. This study contributes to the discourse on contextualized andragogical practice in higher education, highlighting implications for lecturer training, curriculum design, and institutional policy.

Abstract

The increased use of digital devices among elementary school children often results in decreased direct interaction, collaborative skills, and emotional regulation abilities. Kampung Lali Gadget (KLG or a Gadget-Free Community), a community-based community in Sidoarjo, presents a form of non-formal education through traditional game activities integrated with the values of collaboration, empathy, and social communication. This study aims to understand in depth the role of the KLG community in shaping and strengthening the social skills of elementary school-aged children. The method used is qualitative research with a case study approach. Data were collected through participant observation during traditional game sessions, in-depth interviews with children, parents, facilitators, and community leaders, and documentation of activities. Data analysis was conducted using thematic techniques through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, as well as triangulation of sources and methods to maintain validity. The results of the study indicate that children's involvement in KLG activities facilitates meaningful social learning processes: children become more skilled at communicating, showing empathy, collaborating, following rules, and managing emotions in group interactions. The role of community facilitators using a reflective and collaborative approach proved crucial in creating a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable learning environment. Furthermore, parental participation and local community support contributed to the program's sustainability. This study concludes that KLG functions as a culturally based communal learning space that is effective in improving the social skills of elementary school children.

Abstract

Amidst rapid urbanization and the large-scale migration of young people from rural areas to cities and abroad, a group of rural residents continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to staying in their villages and actively contributing to local development. This study aims to: 1) describe the various contributions of rural youth who assume leadership roles in mobilizing communities to improve collective welfare; 2) analyze youth behavior in building community networks that support sustainable livelihoods; 3) identify key factors influencing rural youth leadership in village development. The research employed a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach to capture the lived experiences of rural youth leaders. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, supported by observation and documentation. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman interactive model, including data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings reveal that rural youth function as agents of community-based initiatives and the strengthening of social competitiveness. Youth leadership revitalizes mutual cooperation, social solidarity, and local independence, enabling communities to respond adaptively to socio-economic challenges. The novelty of this study lies in its focus on youth-led collective leadership as a sustainable alternative to rural out-migration, linking grassroots youth agency with the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Practically, the findings offer a replicable strategy for policymakers and rural development practitioners to empower youth as key drivers of inclusive and sustainable village development.
