Abstract

This study investigates the correlation between self-efficacy and learning motivation in the English-speaking ability of secondary school students. Using a quantitative approach, the research employs a correlation design to explore the association among these variables. Data were collected through questionnaires assessing students' self-efficacy, learning motivation, and speaking ability. According to Creswell (2012), a quantitative descriptive design effectively identifies trends between variables within a case study framework. The findings reveal a strong positive correlation between students' English-speaking ability, self-efficacy, and learning motivation. Specifically, students with higher speaking abilities tend to exhibit greater self-efficacy and motivation, evidenced by a correlation coefficient 0.95, indicating a very strong relationship among the studied variables.

Abstract

Designing an effective English as a Foreign Language (EFL) curriculum necessitates a comprehensive understanding of learners’ linguistic, academic, and sociocultural needs. This qualitative literature review critically examines the role of needs analysis in shaping relevant and context-sensitive learning outcomes for EFL programs. Drawing upon peer-reviewed studies published between 2015 and 2025, this study applies content analysis to identify recurring themes and gaps in the literature. The findings converge on three interrelated insights: (1) the imperative of constructing learner-centered and contextualized curricula; (2) the detrimental impact of omitting systematic needs analysis, often resulting in decontextualized and ineffective learning outcomes; and (3) the transformative role of participatory needs analysis involving multiple stakeholders. The review reveals that when needs analysis is consistently implemented, it enhances curricular relevance, learner motivation, and instructional alignment. Conversely, underutilization—especially in centralized or under-resourced systems—undermines curriculum effectiveness. The study advocates for an epistemological shift in curriculum development: reconceptualizing needs analysis as a continuous, dialogic process rather than a preliminary task. The paper concludes by proposing institutional strategies for integrating technology, stakeholder feedback, and reflective practice into the curriculum development cycle. These findings offer critical implications for educators, curriculum designers, and policymakers aiming to foster adaptive, equitable, and learner-responsive EFL education.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the evolution of the curriculum in english language teaching (elt) from traditional approaches to more modern and contextual ones. Based on the reality that 21st-century learning demanded changes in teaching approaches, methods, and curriculum content, this research adopted a library research method with a qualitative approach. Data were collected from various relevant academic literature sources and were analyzed using content analysis in a descriptive-qualitative manner. The findings indicated that elt curricula had undergone significant shifts, moving from grammar-based and rote memorization models to communicative and task-based approaches that emphasized language use in real-life contexts. These changes were driven by various factors, including technological advancements, globalization, and the demands of 21st-century competencies. This study contributed by providing a historical mapping and critical analysis of elt curriculum dynamics, offering conceptual insights that could serve as a foundation for developing adaptive, relevant, and future-oriented curricula.

Abstract

Purpose – This research examines the conceptual integration of a love-based curriculum and humanistic approaches within Islamic education frameworks, analyzing their potential implications for learning management systems in Indonesian religious educational institutions.Method – The study employs a systematic library research methodology, analyzing relevant literature published primarily from 2020 onward. Data collection involved comprehensive examination of official policy documents from the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Indonesia, academic journals, and scholarly publications through databases including Google Scholar, ERIC, JSTOR, and DOAJ. Analysis utilized thematic categorization to identify key conceptual elements. Findings – The research identifies three fundamental dimensions of the love-based curriculum: its philosophical foundations in Islamic rahmatan lil 'alamin concept, its pedagogical emphasis on emotional intelligence development, and its practical implementation challenges. The integration of humanistic values with Islamic educational principles creates a framework that enhances character formation while addressing contemporary educational challenges, including digital disruption and social fragmentation. Research Implications – This study contributes to educational theory by proposing a conceptual framework that bridges Islamic educational principles with contemporary humanistic pedagogy. The findings suggest practical applications for curriculum development in religious educational institutions facing modernization challenges. This research presents the first comprehensive conceptual analysis of the love-based curriculum initiative within the context of Indonesian Islamic education, offering insights that extend beyond religious boundaries toward broader educational reform considerations.

Abstract

This study explores the challenges faced by undergraduate English Education students in designing English for Specific Purposes (ESP) materials. ESP material design requires the integration of field-specific content with general language skills that are contextually relevant. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with five students who have experience in designing ESP materials. Thematic analysis revealed that students face challenges in needs analysis, content selection, and technology integration. Limited resources, such as time and technological infrastructure, also posed significant obstacles. Strategies employed to overcome these challenges include collaboration with peers and lecturers, adaptation of existing materials, and utilizing online resources. This study highlights the importance of language simplification and feedback-based evaluation to ensure the relevance and effectiveness of ESP materials. The findings contribute to curriculum development and ESP teaching practices by emphasizing collaborative approaches and strategic use of technology.
