Abstract

This study aims to analyze the trend of extreme temperatures in Kalimantan over the past few decades. The data used are daily temperatures from meteorological stations in West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, and South Kalimantan, with an observation period of January 1985 to December 2022. The research methodology involves four main stages: data collection, extreme temperature index calculation, trend detection, and correlation analysis with ENSO and IOD. The results showed an increasing trend in extreme temperatures (warming). The increase in mean annual maximum temperature (TXmean) ranged from 0.03°C to 2°C per century, while the mean annual minimum temperature increased from 0.2°C to 0.5°C per century. Monthly maximum value of daily max temperature (TXx) the increasing trend ranged from 0.19°C to 1.7°C, monthly maximum value of daily min temperature (TNx) increased from 0.1°C to 0.5°C. The monthly mean difference between daily max and min temperature (DTR) also shows an increase of 0.5°C to 1.7°C. This trend indicates that daytime (TXmean, TXx) and nighttime (TNmean, TNx) conditions in Kalimantan, especially in West, Central, and South Kalimantan, are getting hotter, with the daytime experiencing a more significant increase in temperature. The correlation between the extreme temperature index and ENSO and IOD is negative and positive, indicating that ENSO and IOD do not fully influence the increase in extreme temperatures. These findings have important implications for disaster mitigation planning and adaptation to climate change in the Kalimantan region.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of sea surface temperature (SST), outgoing longwave radiation (OLR), and the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) on rainfall dynamics in the peatlands of East Sumatra’s coast. Data from ERA5 (SST, OLR), BMKG (rainfall), and a calculated IOD index (1982–2024) were analyzed quantitatively using Python and Pearson correlation. Results show SST in the Indian and Pacific Oceans correlates significantly and positively with rainfall (r > 0.6; p < 0.05), confirming the dominant roles of IOD and ENSO. OLR exhibits a strong negative correlation (r < –0.7; p < 0.05), reflecting its inverse relationship with convective activity and rainfall. The IOD index is significantly correlated with rainfall variation, particularly during positive IOD events, which are linked to rainfall deficits and increased peat fire risk. This quantitative analysis provides a basis for predicting rainfall and mitigating peatland fires.

Abstract

Teaching slow-moving learners the abstract science concepts such as Elements, Compounds, and Mixtures can be difficult as they need concrete instructions and less cognitive load. The learning materials available cannot be expected to have the particular accessibility elements that can bridge this cognitive divide. The current study attempts this integration for the first time, combining Universal Design for Learning and a STEM-SDGs approach specifically to support slow learners. The study aimed to create a valid, usable, beneficial-inclusive module for Phase D (Grade VIII) students using the R & D approach (ADDIE model). The study incorporated six expert validators, a practicality trial to slow learners (N=10) and a quasi-experimental field study with 73 learners (Experimental N=34 vs Control N=39). The module had a rating of V-Aiken of 0.87 (Very Valid) and 92.1% was rated as Very Practical. Effectiveness testing showed that the module had a significant positive differentiating factor as the experimental group had evidence of a “High” N-Gain (0.78) as opposed to the Medium (0.40) of the control group. The findings of the study attest that the module based on UDL was effective in bridging difficult concepts and can be an adaptative resource to attain Equity in Science Education.

Abstract

This work investigates the application of Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) for numerical solutions to the time-independent Schrödinger equation of the quantum harmonic oscillator in one, two, and three spatial dimensions. Fully connected neural architectures are constructed to approximate wavefunctions over finite symmetric domains, while the corresponding energy eigenvalues are treated as trainable parameters. The training strategy utilizes randomly sampled interior points to enforce the Schrödinger operator residual and boundary points to impose vanishing wavefunction constraints. For the 1D quantum harmonic oscillator, the learned ground-state wavefunction yields an energy of E = 1.2939 after 12,000 iterations. In the 2D configuration, convergence is achieved at E = 2.1352 within 14,000 iterations, whereas the 3D model attains E = 2.6377 after 12,000 iterations. These values agree with the expected trend of increasing ground-state energy with dimensionality, although deviations from exact analytical values indicate that PINNs may experience optimization challenges and sensitivity to sampling density and boundary enforcement. Despite these limitations, the trained models successfully capture the characteristic spatial symmetries and Gaussian-like envelope of harmonic oscillator eigenstates across all dimensions. These findings demonstrate that PINNs offer a flexible, mesh-free alternative for solving stationary quantum systems, particularly when analytical or conventional numerical approaches become impractical. The method shows strong potential for higher-dimensional quantum applications, even though further refinement such as improved sampling, loss balancing, and network depth remains necessary to suppress residual error and enhance eigenvalue accuracy.

Abstract

Studying at home plays an important role in improving student achievement, especially in science subjects that are both conceptual and challenging. This study aimed to examine the effect of the duration and time of study at home on students' science learning outcomes. The approach used was quantitative, with a survey and documentation design. The population included all junior and senior high school students in Pulau Rimau in the 2024/2025 school years. A sample of 170 students was selected using Proportional Stratified Sampling. An analysis was conducted to determine the effects of each variable on learning outcomes. The analysis showed that the study duration had a significant effect on learning outcomes (p<0.05). Tukey's HSD further test showed that students who studied less than one hour per day had significantly lower learning outcomes than students who studied 1-2 hours or more than 2 hours. In contrast, the study time showed no significant effect (p>0.05). This finding suggests that the allocation of at least one hour of study time per day contributes positively to science-learning outcomes. Collaboration between parents and teachers so that the duration of study at home is optimal for science achievement.
