Abstract

This study examines the extent to which the Provincial Minimum Wage embodies legally and philosophically grounded principles, including fair equality of opportunity, the difference principle, and the promotion of collective welfare. The study critically evaluates the 2025 Provincial Minimum Wage (UMP) policy in Banten, Indonesia, by examining its alignment with principles of normative justice, particularly Rawlsian distributive justice and utilitarian welfare maximization, alongside workers’ perceptions of wage adequacy and fairness. Using a mixed-methods approach that combines critical-philosophical analysis with descriptive quantitative techniques, the study integrates normative assessments of wage regulations, including Governor Decree Number 456/Kep.292-Huk/2024 and relevant labor laws, with survey data from 103 formal sector workers in Banten. The findings reveal a persistent gap between the policy’s objectives and worker’ lived experiences. From a Rawlsian perspective, the policy under-benefits the most economically vulnerable groups, while a utilitarian analysis suggests that the current system does not fully maximize collective welfare. Many respondents considered their wages insufficient for basic living expenses, with incentives and bonuses lacking transparency.

Abstract

Social inequality in Indonesia remains a persistent issue, rooted in structural problems within economic and political systems that fail to deliver justice for all citizens. This study aims to critically examine how state economic policies, unequal wealth distribution, and limited access to public services have deepened social disparity. Using a qualitative approach, it evaluates policy shortcomings and explores the consequences of asymmetrical socioeconomic structures on distributive justice. The findings reveal that policies often favoring elite groups exacerbate inequality and restrict equitable access to education, healthcare, and employment opportunities. In addition to policy analysis, this research employs a textual and contextual study of Qur’anic verses on justice (al-‘adl, al-qisṭ) to offer an Islamic ethical perspective on social justice. The study argues that Islamic teachings advocate for a just socio-economic order and that integrating such values into policymaking could address systemic injustice. This research contributes to a more holistic understanding of inequality by bridging critical policy analysis with Qur’anic moral frameworks.

Abstract

This study examines communication ethics in the digital era from the perspective of Islamic teachings, focusing on the influence of digital communication on language values and morals. Using qualitative methods with literature studies, this study analyzes hadiths related to social ethics, as narrated by Abu Daud, to emphasize the importance of maintaining speech and behavior in interactions. The phenomenon of the crisis in understanding ethics in the use of language on social media shows that people's understanding of ethics and linguistic values is still low. The findings show that good communication ethics are needed to prevent negative practices such as cyberbullying, hoaxes, and hate speech, as well as to build a more ethical online environment. In addition, the hadith that reminds us of the dangers of uttering sentences without careful thought emphasizes the need for caution in conveying information. Therefore, this study provides recommendations to improve the understanding of communication ethics among social media users, in order to create more constructive and meaningful interactions in communication.

Abstract

This study aims to explore how people interpret and internalize hadith messages when facing cases of digital bullying, using Kathy Charmaz's Constructivist Grounded Theory approach. This approach allows the exploration of personal experiences and in-depth reflections from individuals who have been victims, perpetrators, and witnesses of cyberbullying. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews and analyzed gradually to form theoretical concepts that represent the construction of meaning from the participants' perspectives. The findings of this study reveal that hadith values such as the importance of guarding speech, the prohibition of harming others, and the invitation to do good contribute to the birth of new awareness in responding to the dynamics of cyberspace, including the development of digital empathy, the ability to restrain oneself, and the application of media ethics. Therefore, when interpreted contextually and embedded in the collective consciousness, hadith has the potential to become a spiritual-transformational force in creating a more ethical, civilized and humane digital space.

Abstract

The grave realm is often also called the supernatural realm. The grave is described as an intermediary between the day of death and the day of resurrection. Many people are asking about what life is like after being in the world. They are worried about their fate after the last breath, the grave becomes a mystery that makes us want to know what the conditions of life are after being in the world. In the Islamic tradition, life after death is an important aspect of faith. It is believed that the grave is a transitional period before Judgment Day, where people experience joy and suffering based on their deeds in this life. The Prophet's hadith discusses a lot about the reality of life in the grave and provides an overview of the spiritual condition of human beings after death. The theological and ethical aspects of the pleasures and sufferings of the grave are topics that are often discussed in Islamic studies, although some aspects still need further clarification. Although there is a lot of research on the afterlife, there is still a lack of explaining how the pleasures and sufferings of the grave realm are from the perspective of prophetic tradition, especially from a theological and ethical perspective. In addition, there is no clear mapping of how these dimensions affect the daily moral life of Muslims. The purpose of this study is to analyze in depth the theological and ethical aspects of pleasure and suffering in the grave based on the hadiths of the Prophets. This research will explore how these hadiths describe the theological conception of life after death and its moral implications for Muslims in this life. Thus, this research is expected to deepen our understanding of the role of pleasure and suffering in the grave in shaping the ethical behavior of Muslims.

Abstract

Abstract

The rapid development of modern civilization and the complex social dynamics in Indonesia call for a change in the application of Islamic law. Deeply ingrained in ancient fiqh literature, the ideas of Islamic law often expose flaws in handling the complexity of modern dynamics, especially in the multicultural setting of Indonesia. This study aims to clarify the relevance of reconstructing Islamic law in line with the setting of fiqh inside the archipelago since it answers the problems of the modern day. And to critically analyze the dynamics of Islamic legal thought in Indonesia in responding to contemporary reality challenges through a reconstructive approach to classical fiqh towards Nusantara fiqh. Specifically, this research focuses on how local scholars reformulate fiqh principles in the context of Indonesia's pluralistic and dynamic social, political, and cultural landscape. Examining a range of ancient fiqh studies, the viewpoints of Nusantara academics, and contemporary debates in the field of Islamic law, this paper uses a library research technique and a qualitative-descriptive method. The results of this discussion show that Nusantara fiqh is more than just local adaptation of classical fiqh; rather, it is a contextual ijtihad process combining local knowledge, social reality, and the basic values of maqāḥid al-syarī'ah. With the existence of Nusantara fiqh, it enables a more inclusive, adaptive, and relevant Islamic law in reconstructing Islamic law itself according to the needs of Indonesian society in the modern era without neglecting the principles of Islamic Shari'ah itself. Therefore, this article explains the importance of a reform in Islamic law that can adapt to contemporary dynamics while still being rooted in authoritative Islamic scholarly principles.

Abstract

This study examines an interesting phenomenon in the world of pesantren: the use of the magical practice "Semar Mesem". Through a qualitative approach, this research seeks to understand this practice’s meaning, purpose, and consequences in pesantren life. The study results show that Semar Mesem is not just a magical practice but also reflects the social and psychological dynamics in the pesantren environment. The practice is influenced by various factors, from internal factors such as self-discovery and social pressure to external factors such as cultural and environmental influences. In this study, religious education is correct and comprehensive in responding to this phenomenon. Religious education is not only limited to theoretical understanding but must also be able to form a strong and critical character. In addition, an open dialogue between Santri, scholars, and the community is also needed to find the right solution to overcome these problems.
