Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: This study aims to gain an in-depth understanding of the experiences of construction workers in accessing health services in Paccerakkang Subdistrict, Biringkanaya District, Makassar City. As part of the informal sector workforce, construction workers face various health risks as well as structural limitations in obtaining adequate health services. This study adopts a health sociology perspective to examine how social, economic, and public policy factors influence access to health services among informal workers. Methods: This study employed a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design. The research participants consisted of six construction workers selected purposively based on the criteria of being aged 18–60 years, actively working as construction workers, and having experience in accessing health services within the past year. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation in the workers’ work and residential environments, and documentation to strengthen the empirical context of the study. Data analysis was conducted using thematic analysis through processes of data reduction, categorisation, and meaning-making to identify patterns of experience and the participants’ interpretations of access to health services. Results: The findings indicate that construction workers perceive health services not only as a means of medical treatment but also as a form of social protection that helps maintain work productivity and family well-being. The main barriers to accessing health services include economic constraints, unstable income, long working hours, and the lack of occupational safety facilities. Some participants also highlighted complicated administrative procedures and high treatment costs, although in general they did not experience discrimination from health professionals. To overcome these barriers, construction workers developed adaptive strategies such as utilising formal health services and traditional treatment, maintaining health through healthy lifestyles, and relying on social support from family members and co-workers. Conclusion: This study concludes that the experiences of construction workers in accessing health services are shaped by the interaction of economic, social, occupational, and health policy factors. Therefore, stronger synergy between government institutions, health service providers, and worker communities is required to create a health service system that is more equitable, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of informal sector workers in urban settings.

Abstract

Hospitals are healthcare facilities aimed at improving health recovery and maintenance. Patient safety is a top priority in hospitals, and it is related to issues of quality and image, ranging from cases of malpractice, negligence in patient care, discrimination against patients, to other criminal acts. To date, patient safety has not fully become an integral part of healthcare practices. This is reflected in the continued occurrence of ethical violations in the form of malpractice, discrimination, and other forms of behavior. Every healthcare profession has a code of ethics that serves as a guideline for professional behavior. The existence of a code of ethics should be the foundation for building a patient safety culture. Law Number 44 of 2009 concerning Hospitals explicitly states that patient safety is a top priority in healthcare. This study used a literature review method by examining various online scientific publication sources. The results of the literature search were then analyzed and processed to produce in-depth discussions and conclusions relevant to the research topic. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of a professional code of ethics by medical personnel plays a significant role in building a patient safety culture. This culture can only be realized if supported by an ethical organizational climate, open communication, and patient safety-oriented leadership. Therefore, professional ethics must be a core component of a hospital service system oriented toward patient safety. Furthermore, it is important to recognize that implementing a patient safety culture relies not only on medical personnel but also involves all elements within the hospital, including management, administrative staff, and other support personnel. Commitment from all parties to consistently implementing patient safety principles can strengthen the desired safety culture.

Abstract

The prevalence of diarrhea remains high in countries with limited access to clean water, sanitation, and personal hygiene. To reduce diarrhea cases, Indonesia has implemented the Community-Based Total Sanitation (STBM) program, with a key indicator being the reduction of open defecation behavior. This study aims to identify the factors associated with the incidence of diarrhea among children under five in Tomohon City. This is an analytical study with a quantitative approach and a cross-sectional design. The population includes 840 children under five in the Lansot Health Center area, with a sample size of 271 children. Data were collected through questionnaires given to the children's parents. Independent variables include the role of sanitation officers, latrine ownership, access to latrine use, and the practice of stopping open defecation (stop BABS). Data were analyzed using univariate, bivariate (Chi-square test), and multivariate (logistic regression) analyses. The results showed significant associations between all independent variables and the incidence of diarrhea. The dominant factors were access to latrines (p = 0.001; OR = 3.838) and stop BABS behavior (p = 0.002; OR = 5.148). It is concluded that improved access and sanitation behaviors significantly reduce diarrhea incidence in children. It is recommended that the community maintain existing sanitation facilities and continue promoting clean and healthy living behaviors to prevent diarrhea in children.

Abstract

It is essential to realize that wrong parenting can lead to serious social problems such as promiscuity, sexual violence against girls, early marriage, neglect, dropping out of school, and drug trafficking and use. This study aims to analyze the parenting style of children of families who live in the longhouse of Kampung Atas Air, Margasari Village, West Balikpapan District, Balikpapan City. The sociological perspective used is critical. This research uses the qualitative method of the case study approach. The research informants were five families living in longhouses consisting of mothers or fathers and children, community leaders, and local government. The results of the study show that the social reality of the longhouse family is not in line with the social order of the local community, such as; promiscuity occurs, children dropping out of school, early marriage, neglect of children and wives, and drug trafficking. The parenting style implemented is permissive and uninvolved parenting. Children are ignored so that they are not controlled in the association. Caring for children is the responsibility of the extended family, not the responsibility of the nuclear family, namely the biological parents, so children receive less attention from their parents during the growth period until adulthood. The research concludes that a parenting style not by the social order causes social disorder.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: The high birth rate is the main reason for the need for family planning services. Many women experience difficulties in determining the choice of type of contraception. This is not only because of the limited available methods but also because of their ignorance to make the right choice according to age, number of children and the side effects that often arise. This study aimed to obtain in-depth information about the behavior of community participation in the family planning program at the Kajuara Community Health Center, Bone Regency. Subjects and Method: The type of research used is descriptive qualitative research. The number of informants in this study was 7 people. The variables of this study are people's behavior, knowledge, attitudes, and actions. These research variables in a qualitative approach are referred to as the research focus. Data collection was done through in-depth interviews. Data analysis using "content analysis". While the technique of testing the validity of the data using data triangulation. Results: The results showed that basically, the community at the Kajuara Community Health Center knew about the Family Planning program, its benefits, and objectives, but the information obtained about the Family Planning program was not fully obtained. The attitude of the people who are less responsive to participation in the Family Planning program does not mean they are afraid of not having children but are afraid of the effects of these contraceptives. The actions of people who do not participate in the Family Planning program are due to information from other people regarding the effects of contraceptives which makes people not want to participate in the Family Planning program. Conclusion: This study concludes that there is a need to increase public knowledge about the Family Planning program through intensive counselling in the community by health workers. It is recommended that the community at the Kajuara Community Health Center support the Family Planning program that has been programmed by the government by participating in the program. It is hoped that mothers will not be influenced by information from other people about the effects of family planning and seek information about family planning programs from health workers.
