Abstract

Mathematics is closely related to science because both require the ability to analyze, think logically, and systematically to understand. This study explores students' level of abstraction thinking in understanding the concept of exponent numbers and its implementation in science. This research uses a qualitative approach. The subjects in this study were students of the master's program in basic education. The data collection techniques used were tests and interviews. The results showed differences in identifying exponent numbers in low and high abstraction level students. Low abstraction level students perform problem-solving stages, such as identifying and writing down every information listed in the problem, using mathematical symbolization, performing number operations according to problem understanding, and checking again. Meanwhile, high abstraction level students performed problem-solving stages, such as identifying every piece of information in the problem without writing it on the worksheet, not writing the results of their understanding explicitly on the worksheet, not writing explicitly the model to be used, performing number operations without paying attention to the type of number because they already understood and they made a conclusion. Both level students applied the concept of exponent numbers in science for writing units and density.

Abstract

This study investigates the reinforcement of student character through the integration of Pancasila values and Civic Education in elementary schools. The problem addressed in this research is the limited implementation of character education that meaningfully connects philosophical national values with classroom practices. The study aims to identify how Pancasila principles can be systematically embedded into Civic Education learning and how this integration contributes to the development of students’ moral, social, and civic competencies. Using a qualitative descriptive methodology, data were collected through classroom observations, teacher interviews, and document analysis in three public elementary schools. The findings show that character strengthening becomes more effective when Pancasila values are explicitly linked with daily learning activities, contextual issues, and collaborative classroom tasks. Teachers who apply inquiry-based discussions, project-based assignments, and reflective learning strategies demonstrate higher success in cultivating responsibility, cooperation, critical thinking, and national identity among students. The study concludes that integrating Pancasila values into Civic Education not only enhances students’ understanding of civic responsibilities but also fosters consistent character growth aligned with Indonesia’s national ideology. These results highlight the importance of intentional planning, innovative pedagogy, and teacher competency development to ensure that character education becomes a transformative part of elementary learning.

Abstract

Abstract

This study explores the emergence of scientific ethics through inquiry-based renewable energy learning among fifth-grade elementary students. While inquiry-based learning (IBL) is widely recognized for improving scientific literacy and conceptual understanding, its role in fostering scientific ethical values at the elementary level remains underexplored. Using a qualitative case study design at SDN Ciptomulyo 1 Malang City, data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed thematically. The findings indicate that inquiry activities involving experiments with mini solar panels and windmills fostered honesty in data recording, responsibility in conducting procedures, openness to empirical evidence, collaborative engagement, and critical reflection on experimental outcomes. These ethical dispositions emerged through structured investigation and teacher-facilitated discussion. The study highlights that inquiry-based renewable energy instruction not only enhances conceptual mastery but also supports the development of scientific character in elementary science education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Project Citizen learning model in the Pancasila Education subject at SDN 1 Banyuurip as an effort to optimize the improvement of independent character and creative thinking skills of grade 5 students. Education in the 21st century requires students to have relevant skills, including critical thinking, creativity, and having an independent character. Based on initial observations, it was found that students tend to be passive and are not used to expressing opinions or completing tasks independently. The Project Citizen model is implemented through a series of steps such as problem identification, problem selection, information collection, portfolio creation, and reflection. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with data collection methods in the form of observation, interviews, and questionnaires. The results of the study showed that the implementation of the Project Citizen model consistently improved the quality of learning, as seen from the increase in the learning implementation score from the category of "good" to "very good." This model also has a positive impact on developing students' initiative, self-confidence, and discipline, and encouraging them to think creatively in solving problems relevant to everyday life. The conclusion of this study shows that the Project Citizen model is effective in forming independent character and improving creative thinking skills, so that it can be adopted as an innovative learning model in Pancasila Education in elementary schools.

Abstract

The evaluation of prospective teachers’ competencies during the pre-PPL phase still relies heavily on conventional instruments that fail to authentically assess their ability to solve classroom problems. In line with recent policies requiring case study projects in the PPG program, this article reports on the development of SCENIC (Scenario-based Contextual Evaluation for Nurturing Instructional Competence), a set of contextual scenario-based evaluation instruments integrated with case study projects. The research employed an R&D approach (Borg & Gall) through needs analysis, the design of seven scenarios, expert validation, and phased pilot testing with PPG students. The results indicate competency gaps in student needs analysis, inclusive learning design, and contextual communication; expert validation rated the content as relevant and highly applicable; and pilot testing showed that SCENIC helps calibrate performance assessments and strengthens students’ readiness to tackle case study assignments and UKIN/PPL. SCENIC is recommended as an authentic evaluation framework to bridge theory and practice in elementary teacher education.

Abstract

Science learning at the elementary school level requires a pedagogical approach that can encourage the development of higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) as part of improving the quality of the learning process. The RADEC (Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, Create) model is considered relevant because it includes systematic, collaborative learning stages, and is oriented towards knowledge construction. Based on this need, this study aims to examine the forms of strengthening the RADEC model in science learning and its contribution to the development of students' HOTS. This study used the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method by analyzing scientific articles that met the criteria for eligibility and relevance. The results of the review indicate that strengthening RADEC is carried out through the integration of contextual media, the development of HOTS-based teaching tools, the implementation of collaborative strategies, and the use of authentic assessments. These various forms of strengthening play a role in optimizing the RADEC stages, thereby supporting the improvement of analytical, evaluative, creative, scientific communication, and active participation skills of students. Overall, the SLR findings indicate that RADEC has substantive potential in strengthening the quality of science learning and supporting the achievement of higher-order thinking skills in elementary school students.
