Abstract

The use of permanent sterilization contraception, such as vasectomy and tubectomy, remains a sensitive issue among Indonesian Muslims, particularly in Sumedang Regency. This study aims to explore the views of Islamic scholars (ulama) and health workers on the practice of permanent sterilization without medical indications. This study used a qualitative case study approach with semi-structured interviews with five informants: two ulama, two health workers, and one community leader who was also a sterilization patient. The results indicate that Islamic scholars reject permanent sterilization without medical reasons because they are considered contrary to the principles of the maqasid sharia, specifically preserving offspring (hifz al-nasl). In contrast, health workers accept the procedure if accompanied by medical indications and the consent of the partner. These differing views reflect differing perspectives on sterilization, family planning, and couple readiness. This study used an educational approach and interdisciplinary dialogue between religious leaders and health workers to bridge the gap. Practical implications: education that combines sharia values with reproductive health information is crucial to help communities make informed, rational contraceptive decisions that align with local spiritual and cultural values.

Abstract

Low self-esteem is a feeling towards oneself, while problems with poor interpersonal relationships and associated with low anxiety, low affectivity, so that low self-esteem is associated with nursing can cause self-esteem in groups and acceptance of others as valuable in life. High negative self-esteem towards oneself causes loss of self-confidence, pessimism, and is not at risk of depression and schizophrenia, so that negative feelings fundamentally cause loss of self-confidence and self-esteem of individuals and self-esteem disorders (Muhith, 2016). Low Self-Esteem In Islamic teachings, self-esteem (muru'ah) has a very important meaning. Islam teaches its people to maintain self-esteem and dignity, which are considered part of faith. Some key concepts in Islam related to self-esteem include: 'Izzah (Self-Glory): Is a concept that emphasizes the importance of having dignity and honor. In Islam, one must draw closer to Allah to obtain 'izzah, which is a source of glory. Muru'ah: This refers to maintaining self-respect and commendable behavior. Imam Ghazali emphasized that muru'ah is an important attribute in personal transformation, where individuals with high muru'ah will act in accordance with good moral values. 'Iffah (self-restraint): this concept is related to self-control and commendable behavior. Maintaining 'iffah is part of an effort to maintain self-esteem. (Ministry of Religion, 2021) Riskesdas in 2018 stated that 6.7% of the Indonesian population experienced low self-esteem and the highest prevalence was in Yogyakarta with a figure of 10.4%. Research conducted by Aryanyi and Khodijah in 2023 on "The Relationship between Self Esteem and Gratitude: A Review of the Hadith Narrated by Sunan Al-Tirmidhi No. Index 2034 Psychological Perspective" explains that realizing the concept of gratitude can be an implication that individuals have high self-esteem, while individuals who do not realize the concept of gratitude have low self-esteem. Furthermore, in a study conducted by Oktaviana and Aprilliana in 2024 entitled "The Effect of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) on Adolescents Experiencing Low Self-Esteem: a systematic review." explains that CBT has an influence in increasing self-esteem in adolescents who have low self-esteem problems. Islam offers spiritual and moral solutions, while medicine offers psychological and clinical solutions. The disciplines of Islamic and medical views provide a new perspective in dealing with the problem of low self-esteem in each individual. The purpose of this study is to describe and integrate two disciplinary views to analyze coping strategies in Islamic and medical views for patients with low self-esteem. The relevance of Islam and medicine can be integrated holistically to be applied to the problem of low self-esteem.

Abstract

This study examines interfaith marriage and its impact on family economic rights from the perspectives of Islamic law and positive law in Indonesia, with a case focus on Sumedang Regency. Employing a qualitative phenomenological approach, the research involved semi-structured interviews with both traditional and modern Islamic scholars, along with an analysis of religious texts and statutory regulations. The findings reveal that the majority of scholars reject interfaith marriage based on Sharia principles and Article 2(1) of Law No. 1 of 1974 on Marriage. Nevertheless, some couples pursue such unions through administrative religious conversion or overseas ceremonies to obtain legal recognition. These practices often result in legal ambiguity regarding economic rights within the family—such as inheritance, joint property, and financial support—and may lead to familial disputes. Additional social consequences include identity confusion among children, community stigma, and potential conflicts within extended families. The study underscores the strategic role of institutions like Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) and the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA) in providing legal education and advocates the need for a responsive civil registration mechanism that acknowledges interfaith marriages while respecting Islamic legal principles. A contextual approach is proposed to bridge the tension between religious norms, legal certainty, and the protection of family economic rights.

Abstract

This article explores the implementation of inclusive Islamic education in elementary schools to foster a fair, open, and respectful learning environment. It highlights how Islamic stories, open discussion, and mutual respect can cultivate tolerance among students. The study employs a case study method, involving Islamic Education (PAI) teachers from five elementary schools in Paseh District, Sumedang Regency. The findings reveal the crucial role of PAI teachers in developing students' tolerance through their examples, diverse teaching strategies, and the use of varied media. Examples of inclusive practices include adjusting teaching methods, disseminating relevant materials, and creating a classroom atmosphere that considers students' diverse backgrounds. However, the research also identifies existing challenges, such as teachers lacking the skills to support students with special needs, insufficient understanding of individual differences, and inadequate collaboration between schools and parents. Consequently, the article emphasizes the necessity of supportive policies, strong collaborative efforts, and ongoing teacher training to address these issues. Ultimately, it underscores the importance of integrating Islamic teachings, multicultural values, and the principle of inclusiveness within religious education. Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Embalming a corpse without a clear purpose is prohibited, even forbidden, in Islam, while according to the 2007 MUI fatwa, embalming for educational purposes is permitted. However, some scholars have different views, some reject this practice on the grounds that the corpse must be honored and it is prohibited to damage or change body parts for a long time. Furthermore, there are other opinions that state that they agree and remain permitted as long as it is for a clear purpose. This study aims to determine the law of embalming a corpse according to the views of scholars in Sumedang Regency and Majalengka Regency, existing regulations in Indonesia, and the opinions of health workers and nursing academics. In this study, the data analysis method used is a qualitative field data analysis method with an in-depth interview approach to explore the views of several figures consisting of scholars, health workers and academics in nursing. The results of the study show that religious scholars, health workers, and nursing academics in Sumedang Regency and Majalengka Regency agree and allow the act of preserving corpses for educational purposes, namely as cadavers, because it is considered that this can provide many benefits such as being able to help the greater good, namely to increase knowledge and cure millions of sick people for the development of human knowledge in the world.
