Abstract

Abstract

In private universities in Indonesia, student graduation is something that is worth paying attention to, because it will be an aspect of the success of the university. Universities certainly have data on students who graduated, where student graduation data is very important to be taken into consideration by private universities, however with a lot of data it will make it difficult for private universities to find information from this data. Other researchers have previously carried out student graduation data with the same data by examining student graduation data using other methods. So we need a data mining algorithm that has never been tested on student graduation data. The method used is the neural network method with an optimization method, namely the particle swarm optimization method, to test the data, which will later produce information that is very useful for universities. After testing the student graduation data and getting accuracy results using the neural network method of 84.55% and after being optimized using the particle swarm optimization method, the accuracy results were optimal with a value of 86.94%. These results can be used by private universities to predict that students will graduate on time before they take their final semester so that the student graduation rate will be high.

Abstract

Orangutans are the only great apes that inhabit Sumatra and Borneo, but the Bornean orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) is critically endangered due to health-related issues. Orangutans in zoos or captivity face a higher risk of parasitic infections compared to those in their natural habitats. This is attributed to the unsuitable environmental conditions, such as confined enclosures that restrict their movements and daily activities. Conservation efforts are crucial to prevent orangutan extinction, including ex-situ conservation at Medan Zoo. However, ex-situ conservation also poses the risk of infection by soil-transmitted helminths, nematodes that require soil to reach their infective stage. This research aims to identify the species of soil-transmitted helminths (STH) in Bornean orangutan fecal samples and assess the level of infection. The research method involves descriptive analysis and fecal examination using the native method with six fecal samples from two orangutan individuals. The results revealed the presence of three types of soil-transmitted helminth eggs in both orangutans: Ascaris lumbricoides, Trichuris trichiura, and Necator americanus. The infection level falls into the moderate category (500-5000 eggs).

Abstract

Blood glucose level represents the amount of sugar circulating in the bloodstream, originating from the breakdown of carbohydrates consumed in food and stored in the form of glycogen in the liver and skeletal muscles. Factors influencing blood glucose levels include dietary patterns, lifestyle, changes in body weight, age, and level of physical activity. Body Mass Index (BMI) is used to assess an individual's nutritional status by comparing their weight and height. This research was conducted to investigate the correlation between blood glucose levels and BMI among adolescents at the Adolescent Integrated Health Service Post in Jati Utomo Sub-District, Binjai City. Involving 30 adolescents, this study employed tests of normality and Spearman correlation analysis to analyze the data. The research findings indicate a strong correlation between BMI and blood glucose levels, with a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.67. This suggests that higher BMI correlates with higher blood glucose levels, providing valuable insights into the relationship between BMI and metabolic health in adolescents.

Abstract

Drug repurposing is a promising approach to identify new pharmacological indications for drugs that have already been established. However, there is still a limitation in the availability of a high-throughput in vivo preclinical system that is suitable for screening and investigating new pharmacological indications. The aim of this study was to introduce the application of Drosophila larvae as an in vivo platform to screen drug candidates with anti-aging and immunomodulatory activities. To determine whether Drosophila larvae can be utilized for assessing anti-aging and immunomodulatory activities, phenotypical and molecular assays were conducted using wildtype and mutant lines of Drosophila. The utilization of mutant lines (PGRP-LBΔ and Psh[1];;ModSP[KO]) mimics the autoinflammatory and immunodeficient conditions in humans, thereby enabling a thorough investigation of the effects of various compounds. The phenotypical assay was carried out using survival and locomotor observation in Drosophila larvae and adult flies. Meanwhile, the molecular assay was conducted using the RT-qPCR method. In vivo survival analysis revealed that caffeine was relatively safe for Drosophila larvae and exhibited the ability to extend Drosophila lifespan compared to the untreated controls, suggesting its anti-aging properties. Further analysis using the RT-qPCR method demonstrated that caffeine treatment induced transcriptional changes in the Drosophila larvae, particularly in the downstream of NF-κB and JAK-STAT pathways, two distinct immune-related pathways homologue to humans. In addition, caffeine enhanced the survival of Drosophila autoinflammatory model, further implying its immunosuppressive activity. Nevertheless, this compound had minimal to no effect on the survival of Staphylococcus aureus-infected wildtype and immunodeficient Drosophila, refuting its antibacterial and immunostimulant activities. Overall, our results suggest that the anti-aging and immunosuppressive activities of caffeine observed in Drosophila larvae align with those reported in mammalian model systems, emphasizing the suitability of Drosophila larvae as a model organism in drug repurposing endeavors, particularly for the screening of newly discovered chemical entities to assess their immunomodulatory activities before proceedings to investigations in mammalian animal models.

Abstract

Maternal mortality (MMR) is still 359 per 100,000 live births, and the expected target is still far from what was proclaimed in 2030, the number of 70 per 100,000 live births. Based on data from WHO (Word Health Organization), in 2015, the deaths were around 2.7 million cases caused by perineal injuries. According to IDHS data (Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey), in 2017, the maternal mortality rate (MMR) was 305 per 100,000 live births caused by an infection in the perineal wound. The total maternal mortality rate (MMR) in various provinces in Indonesia has decreased from 4,226 to 4,221. In 2019 the maternal mortality rate (MMR) was most contributed by bleeding (30.3%) and postpartum infection (5%). This study aimed to determine the differences in the effectiveness of red betel and turmeric acid in the complementary wound healing treatment in postpartum women. This study was a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design with a total sampling method by giving three intervention and control groups, as many as 30 postpartum women with perineal wounds grades I and II according to the inclusion criteria with the group given red betel, tamarind, and turmeric. Control group at Anutapura General Hospital Palu. Perineal wound care using the REEDA scale (Redness, Edema, Ecchymosis, Discharge, and Approximation). The results showed a difference in the effectiveness of red betel and turmeric acid on perineal healing. The average Mann-Whitney statistical test results were on the 5th and 7th days (P-Value < 0.005). This study shows that Piper crocatum can accelerate perineal wound healing and become an alternative for complementary therapy and perineal wound healing.
