Abstract

Clean and Healthy Living Behaviors (PHBS) are about all health practices used due to individual awareness for the family and its members to assist themselves in health and play a significant role in community activities. Such activity can protect against several illnesses, including infections. This activity aims to teach the students of SD Negeri 1 Karang Agung village about the meaning of PHBS and how it is applied. This exercise involves PHBS education, including using excellent and appropriate toothbrushes, the WHO six-step hand washing procedure, and disease information. The activities indicated that many SD Negeri 1 Karang Agung students still do not understand personal hygiene. Promoting the PBHS program at the school level and replicating similar activities in other villages or sub-district is recommended.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The 63rd KKN program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang involved medical students in community service, focusing on raising awareness and practice of the WHO 6-step handwashing method to prevent infections and promote nutritional health. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of community education on proper handwashing techniques among elementary students. The outreach program included preparation, implementation, and evaluation phases, with educational materials, school visits, counseling, demonstrations, and hands-on practice. A total of 43 students SDN 6 participated, showing significant improvements in knowledge and behavior. At SDN 1, MIN 1 Payaraman and KKN Posko, educational activities and WHO handwashing initiatives were implemented; however, no pre-tests or post-tests were administered. The six-step handwashing education and the automatic hand soap dispenser effectively enhanced students' knowledge and enthusiasm for cleanliness through handwashing at UPT SPD N 06. To maintain this program, the school should implement frequent educational sessions and guarantee the provision of adequate clean water inside the school premises. Keywords: 6-Step Handwashing WHO; Automatic Foam Soap Dispenser, Behavior Change, Elementary School Students, KKN Program

Abstract

The presence of fatigue among workers in the commercial house construction industry presents substantial obstacles to both the personal welfare of individuals and the overall efficiency of construction projects. The objective of this study is to investigate how individual factors, namely nutritional status, affect degrees of fatigue in this specific occupational group. Data was gathered from 45 construction workers in November 2023 using a cross-sectional methodology. Total sampling approaches were employed, and persons with pre-existing health issues were excluded. Analyzed were the univariate and bivariate data, which uncovered a noteworthy correlation between nutritional status and tiredness level (p-value=0,028). Although there were no significant correlations between age and sleep quality, the results emphasize the significance of dietary determinants in influencing tiredness levels among construction workers. Implications arise from the necessity of implementing specific interventions for example wellness and occupational diet program to encourage adequate nutrition and improve the well-being and productivity of workers in the construction sector. These findings enhance the progress of occupational health research and offer potential applicability for guiding standard of procedure and practical methods to prevent fatigue-related hazards especially in construction environments.

Abstract

Extensive and continuous use of pyrethroid insecticides to prevent the transmission of malaria can lead to mutations in the voltage gate sodium channel gene (VGSC) in mosquito vectors. This gene mutation associated with insensitivity pyrethroid is known as knockdown resistance (kdr). The emergence of resistance to pyrethroid insecticides in vector mosquitoes can be a barrier to the successful termination of malaria transmission. Therefore, detection of mutation is necessary to prevent the resistency from build up. The aim of the study was to determine the resistance status of pyrethroid insecticides and identify mutations in the VGSC gene codon 1014 marker for resistance to Anopheles sp. which is a malaria vector in South Sumatra Province. Samples were taken from three districts in South Sumatra: Muara Enim, OKU, and Lahat. The susceptibility enzymatic test of pyrethroid insecticide (permethrin 0.75%) was preliminarily carried out according to WHO 2016 standard on Anopheles vagus Dí¶nitz species. Identification of VGSC gene mutation was performed on all An. vagus that were previously tested for susceptibility and on An. barbirostris van der Wulp species using seminested-PCR and followed by sequencing. The result showed that samples from Muara Enim regency had resistance, whereas in Lahat and OKU regencies were still susceptible to permethrin. From the sequence analysis it is shown that there are no change in DNA kdr bases in VGSC gene insecticide target sites from all regencies. In conclusion, based on molecular studies, there were no pyrethroid insecticide resistance in South Sumatra Province.
