Abstract

This article departs from the view that methods play an important role in the process of learning Arabic, especially in Islamic educational institutions. With the development of technology and the rapid digitization in the world of education, modern technology-based learning methods are beginning to dominate. Nevertheless, there is a gap between traditional and modern approaches. Traditional methods are considered less responsive to technological advancements, while modern approaches sometimes overlook the values of depth, perseverance, and meaningful learning that have long been upheld in traditional methods. This poses a challenge in creating an effective, relevant, and balanced Arabic language learning system. This research takes a case study at SDIT Al Anis Kartasura Sukoharjo, which has a system that adopts a Pesantren (Islamic boarding school) and is combined with the government curriculum, promoting and developing an integration of the National Curriculum from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Religious Affairs, and the distinctive Integrated Islamic Schools, namely the system oriented towards Pesantren developed by the Al-Anis Kartasura foundation. This study is descriptive qualitative, with an analysis using an interactive model, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results are as follows: First, the integration of traditional and modern methods in Arabic language learning in the digital era has a positive impact on the effectiveness and quality of the teaching and learning process. Second, learning at SDIT Al-Anis is like at a Pesantren, collaborated with the current government curriculum. The integration of traditional and modern methods not only enables transformation in Arabic language learning but also opens opportunities to enhance the quality of education that is contextual, adaptive, and competitive in the digital era.

Abstract

Language in police reports on demonstrations often functions not merely as a neutral record of events but as a strategic device that conveys demands, frames social struggles, and legitimizes authority or resistance. The study employs a descriptive qualitative research method that includes the types of illocutionary acts and social functions of the 39 online news headlines as data. Data were gathered through documentation, observation, and note-taking and were analysed using methods of intralingual matching and pragmatic matching. Results show that the directive illocutionary acts, conveying explicit demands or commands, are dominant (87.18%), followed by expressive acts (7.69%) and assertives (5.13%). Outstanding social functions include investigation on corruption/illegality (48.72%), dismissal/job negotiating (17.95%), protection/rejotion of environment/project (7.69%) and other functions (e.g., demand for social justice, demand for lifting the life-level of the public, socialistic critique), ranging from 2.56% to 10.26%). In a global context, these issues are very easy to relate to both for anticorruption and environmental campaigns around the developing world who are fighting the same governance issues in their home countries. Interdisciplinarily, this research adds to the field of linguistics, sociology and communication studies to explain that on-line media language does not work purely as informative, airchanal language, but also it works like a strategic device of Indonesia civil movement in order to mobilize society, to stem up a civil advocacy, and influence on public policy in contemporary Indonesia. They reinforce language as a catalyst of social innovation under the democratizing navalieu of democracy and global justice.

Abstract

Globalisasi informasi telah membawa perubahan signifikan dalam penyebaran dan pertukaran data astronomi Islam, khususnya terkait penentuan awal bulan Hijriah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji dampak keterhubungan global melalui teknologi informasi terhadap dinamika perbedaan maupun upaya penyatuan kriteria hisab dan rukyat di berbagai negara. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah studi kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus lintas negara, melibatkan analisis literatur dan penelusuran data dari platform informasi astronomi internasional. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa globalisasi informasi mempercepat akses masyarakat dan otoritas ke data astronomis real-time, namun juga mempertegas perbedaan metodologis yang didasari faktor mazhab, politik, dan budaya. Di satu sisi, teknologi memperkuat koordinasi internasional melalui forum global seperti International Crescent Observation Project (ICOP) dan Organisasi Konferensi Islam (OKI); di sisi lain, keterbukaan informasi memicu perdebatan publik yang dapat memperlebar jarak kesepakatan. Abstract

As the melting pot, America gains numerous advantages in term of culture such as rich in cultural diversity, exchange in language, values and tradition, rise in technology and innovation, and numerous additional advantages. However, it also has many disadvantages such as discrimination and racism, domination in majority culture, social inequality, identity confusion, and many more. This research aims at scrutinizing the interconnection between language, cultural memory, and cultural identity in selected Asian-American narratives employing Jan Asmann’s Cultural Memory theory. Asmann formulated his cultural memory as medium for society where they can capture, preserve, and recall using language. In diasporic society where they have a collective identity rooted in their homeland, language plays important role in preserving tradition, history, and myth. It also becomes a tool of negotiation when identities constantly being reconstructed. This is qualitative research using interpretive approach focusing on Asian-American films, The Farewell (2019) and Minari (2020). These films provide language both in bilingual and multilingual in their conversation, storytelling which engaging generations mindsets, and symbolism in culture from their homeland. There are three steps in collecting the data, first, the language analysis to signify the cultural reference, second, the cultural memory to analyze the complexity of the problems, third, the cultural identity stage to answer the identity negotiation in their cross-cultural environment. The findings indicate that there are methods to preserve culture and tradition from their homeland passing from generation to generation. Language serves as both repository of memory, culture, and tradition, it performs as identity formation as well. By reflecting and demonstrating how Asian-American narratives serving as cultural memory and identity formation, this research contributes to cross-cultural language, shaping the evolution on cultural diversities and identities in Asian-American communities.

Abstract

This study examines the role of quotes at the beginning of chapters in stories shared on Wattpad, focusing on their alignment with chapter content and overall narrative unity. Utilizing DeFrank's (2019) categorization of strong and weak quotes, along with Coley's (2015) theory of narrative alignment and Christman's (2004) concept of narrative unity, the research evaluates how quotes influence storytelling. Strong quotes, characterized by direct and emotionally impactful language, enhance reader engagement and thematic cohesion. In contrast, weak quotes, which are general or indirect, contribute less to narrative alignment but can still support thematic exploration. By analyzing examples from various Wattpad stories, the study highlights the use of quotes as tools for foreshadowing and emotional resonance. The findings underscore the importance of quote selection in shaping the reader's experience, providing insights into their role in digital storytelling. This research offers implications for enhancing narrative strategies on interactive platforms and suggests further exploration into the integration of text and visuals in digital media.

Abstract

The integration of Information Technology (IT) into English literature instruction has transformed the way poetry is taught and experienced in higher education. This study explores the implementation of an IT-based instructional model for teaching English poetry in Indonesian public university classrooms using a qualitative research design. Data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews, and analysis of students’ digital learning artifacts, including multimedia annotations, online discussion threads, and collaborative projects. The instructional model employed digital platforms such as interactive learning management systems, multimedia annotation tools, and collaborative online forums to facilitate engagement, interpretation, and collaborative meaning-making in poetry learning. The findings indicate that the IT-based model fostered more active participation, enriched interpretive discussions, and enabled students to explore poetic meaning through multimodal representations. Students reported that digital tools enhanced their appreciation of poetic language and imagery while providing a more flexible and interactive learning environment. However, challenges were noted, including disparities in digital literacy, inconsistent internet connectivity, and the need for targeted professional development for instructors. This study concludes that qualitative insights into IT-based poetry instruction provide a nuanced understanding of how digital tools can bridge the gap between traditional literary pedagogy and contemporary learning needs in public universities.

Abstract

Serat Wicara Keras is one of the most renowned literary works, as it contains various lessons, including history, social values, culture, politics, religion, and philosophy. This manuscript was later reproduced in the 20th century by Yasadipura III, also known as R. Ng. Sastrawikrama, as a depiction of social criticism and the author’s anger toward the ruling leaders or government. However, an important question arises regarding the reason behind the writing of this manuscript. What political conditions served as the main trigger for the creation of Serat Wicara Keras. What images and portrayals emerged from its composition. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method with a literary hermeneutic approach, further supported by Shoshana Felman’s Testimony theory, to interpret the events depicted in Yasadipura II’s 1820 work Serat Wicara Keras. The analysis reveals political influences spanning from the aftermath of the Java War to the independence of Indonesia, which shaped the political landscape of Java. It also highlights the role of post-independence Indonesian activists in safeguarding national sovereignty amid various internal conflicts, extending into the Reform Era. This represents how the political climate in Indonesia evolved and the extent to which the content of Serat Wicara Keras reflected the realities of its time.

Abstract

The contemporary digital era marks a fundamental shift in the relationships between gender, affect, and economy. This study explores how emotional labor and gender identity are commodified within platform capitalism, focusing on the practices of female creators on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. Using digital ethnography and multimodal semiotic analysis, the study identifies three interrelated patterns. First, the monetization of vulnerability, where personal narratives—such as experiences with mental health or body image—are strategically leveraged to generate economic gains through sponsorships, affiliate links, and donation models. Second, the ritualization of care, which positions repetitive practices such as self-care routines as branding strategies, creating engineered intimacy and an aura of authenticity to maintain audience engagement. Third, algorithmic control, where platform infrastructures amplify affective content and shape creator behavior in alignment with attention-driven economic logic. These dynamics converge in what this study terms affective fetishism: the transformation of care, vulnerability, and authenticity into aestheticized commodities that appear natural but are systematically optimized for visibility and profitability. The digital performance of femininity is no longer mere self-expression; it is a curated product guided by algorithmic governance. This research contributes to discussions on emotional capitalism by demonstrating how gendered affect circulates as both symbolic and economic capital in digital culture. The findings highlight the ambivalent space between empowerment and exploitation, revealing how authenticity is not only a cultural value but also a commodified asset engineered for engagement in algorithmically mediated public spaces.

Abstract

Representasi moderasi beragama dalam novel tercermin melalui berbagai dimensi teks dan konteks praktik sosial budaya. Melalui dialog antarkarakter, penulis menciptakan wacana yang mendukung toleransi dan pemahaman antaragama. Praktik sosial budaya tercermin dalam konteks sosial novel melalui dialog yang memunculkan kerukunan antaraliran kepercayaan atau antar keyakinan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan representasi moderasi beragama dan konteks sosial budaya dalam novel Bilangan Fu karya Ayu Utami. Selain itu, penelitian ini juga mendeskripsikan pemanfaatan novel sebagai materi ajar Bahasa Indonesia bermuatan moderasi di SMA. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data penelitian adalah dokumen berupa novel. Teknik analisis data menggunakan analisis konten. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa novel Bilangan Fu karya Ayu Utami mengandung beragam muatan prinsip moderasi beragama antara lain komitmen kebangsaan, toleransi, antikekerasan, dan penerimaan terhadap tradisi. Konteks dalam novel Bilangan Fu karya Ayu Utami, berupa dimensi konteks kebudayaan dan religius yang tercermin melalui kutipan dan dialon dalam novel. Novel tersebut dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai materi ajar di SMA, siswa dapat mengembangkan pemahaman yang lebih mendalam tentang nilai-nilai moderasi beragama, toleransi, dan menghormati perbedaan.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the components of classroom management implemented by the teacher in English language teaching at the eleventh grade of MA Al-Islam Jamsaren Surakarta in the academic year of 2024/2025. The design of the research was descriptive qualitative research. The research subjects were one English teacher and students of XI-3, MA Al-Islam Jamsaren Surakarta. The data were collected by interview, observation, and documentation. The data were analysed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana's model. In the trustworthiness of the data, this research uses triangulation by method. The result of this study indicates that the component of classroom management used by English teacher in teaching English at class XI-3 of MA Al Islam Jamsaren Surakarta academic year 2024/2025 divided into five components: creating and teaching expectations and rules (examine the need for rules, select the rules, teach and review the rules, and obtain commitments), establishing procedures and structures (making management instructional preparations, organizing classroom and materials, and procedures in the classroom), reinforcing expectations (building positive teacher-student relationships, having mental set for management, managing whole-group instruction, maintaining student attention and involvement, and improving classroom climate with reinforcers), actively engaging students (planning decisions affect behaviour management, managing lesson delivery, and managing student work), and managing misbehavior (situational assistance, mild responses, and moderate responses).
