Abstract

In a globalized landscape characterized by intense cultural interactions, Masjid Putra in Putrajaya, Malaysia, emerged as a model religious institution that blended Islamic values with an inclusive approach to promote cultural diversity and global harmony. The Putra Mosque Malaysia is a symbol of the unity between Islamic values, modern architecture, and inclusive social function. This study, based on an interview with Raja Aman Shah, tour guide and manager of Masjid Putra, along with direct field observation, explores its multifaceted role in fostering peace and humanitarian values. First, Masjid Putra plays a strategic role in peacebuilding and humanitarian response by facilitating interfaith dialogue, nurturing tolerance, and supporting initiatives grounded in Islamic principles of rahmah (compassion) and ta’awun (mutual help). Second, its modern facilities—including a library, Qur’an translation gallery in multiple languages, auditoriums, and social programs—strengthen da’wah, community empowerment, and coordination of humanitarian aid. By integrating wasatiyyah principles and modern technology, the mosque provides sustainable solutions for social reconciliation and crisis management. Third, the inclusive design of Masjid Putra, professional management, and community-based initiatives position it as a unique religious tourism destination. It attracts visitors globally—from Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas—many of whom are non-Muslims from countries such as Indonesia, Korea, China, Japan, France, and the United States. Regulations for non-Muslim tourists, including the wearing of robes and attending educational lectures, not only foster respect but have also led to conversions, with 33 visitors reportedly embracing Islam after their visit. Ultimately, Masjid Putra serves as a global model for integrating Islamic values with practical approaches to cultural diversity, reconciliation, and world peace, reinforcing Islam’s universal message of compassion, tolerance, and unity.

Abstract

The wave of globalization poses significant challenges to the preservation of local traditions. One tradition that remains well-preserved is Sadranan in Dusun Klarisan, Tanduk Village, Ampel District, Boyolali Regency, which is held twice a year during the months of Ruwah and Safar. The series of activities includes grave cleaning, communal prayers, tumpeng feasts, and social gatherings, all of which embody values of gratitude, respect for ancestors, social solidarity, and belief in blessings. This tradition is highly relevant to be integrated into language learning in the Indonesian Language Education program as a medium for fostering cultural literacy. This study aims to describe the implementation and cultural significance of Sadranan and to outline strategies for its integration into Indonesian language teaching at the university level. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with community leaders and residents, and documentation. Data analysis followed Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña’s interactive model, consisting of data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that integrating Sadranan into contextual learning strengthens students’ language skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing) while enhancing their cultural competence. Students not only acquire linguistic skills but also connect them with social and cultural contexts, in line with the principles of Contextual Teaching and Learning. It is concluded that Sadranan serves a dual role as a cultural heritage that strengthens local identity and as an effective pedagogical tool for developing cultural literacy and language proficiency

Abstract

Manuscripts known as Islamic manuscripts of the archipelago are an intellectual heritage that preserves traces of interaction between Islam, culture, and local traditions. One such example is Ahla Musamarah fi Hikayati Auliail ‘Ashrah by Syaikh Abi Fadhol Senori Tuban, an Arabic-language manuscript that has undergone codicological analysis and publication. This manuscript recounts the missionary journeys of the Walisongo and their connection to the political power of the Javanese Kingdom. This manuscript is worth studying because it was written by a scholar known for his expertise in fiqh, making it intriguing to analyze using a comprehensive theoretical framework. Therefore, this study employs Norman Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis with its three levels of analysis: text analysis, which examines the textual dimension and the interpretation of the relationship with the text; discourse practice; and socio-cultural analysis, which explores the relationship between the discourse process and the local socio-cultural context. With this theory, the Ahla Musamarah manuscript can reveal the position of the Walisongo in the archipelago and its correlation with the Javanese kings and the ideology constructed in this manuscript. This study uses the library research method, where the primary data source is the Arabic manuscript Ahla Musamarah, while the secondary data consists of books, articles, and other sources related to the title. The analytical model used is content analysis with the following steps: text analysis to identify lexical choices and sentence structure; discourse analysis to examine the process of text production and distribution in the context of Walisongo and the Javanese kingdom; and social relations analysis to reveal the ideology behind the creation of this manuscript. The research findings indicate that the representation of Walisongo in this manuscript is constructed as a religious and political figure who gains cultural legitimacy through his connection with Javanese royal symbols. The narrative combines historical elements, myths, and Islamic teachings to create an idealized image that reinforces Islamic identity in Java. These findings confirm that the Ahla Musamarah manuscript serves as a space for discourse production that not only records events but also shapes ideology and the construction of Islamic identity in Java.

Abstract

Penelitian ini meneliti mengenai respon Perkembangan NU di Klaten Utara pada tahun 1998-2024. Fokus penelitian ini adalah membahas mengenai status minoritas NU di Klaten Utara ini dapat memicu beberapa pertanyaan krusial. Bagaimana strategi NU untuk tetap eksis dan mengembangkan diri di tengah dominasi Muhammadiyah. Berdasarkan permasalahan yang ada, metode penelitain ini yang digunakan adalah metode sejarah yaitu meliputi pemilihan topik, heuristik atau pengumpulan data, verifikasi atau kritik sejarah, interpretasi atau penafsiran, dan historiografi atau penulisan sejarah. Teknik pengumpulan data didapatkan melalui arsip tertulis yang didapatkan di kantor PCNU Klaten dan Anggota pengurus MWC Klaten Utara. Hasil dari penelitian ini sebagai bagian dari upaya memperkuat peran dalam masyarakat, NU Klaten Utara menghadapi tantangan tersendiri sebagai kelompok yang relatif minoritas dibandingkan dengan Muhammadiyah. Namun, kondisi ini tidak menghalangi semangat organisasi dalam berkontribusi secara aktif bagi pemberdayaan komunitas, khususnya warga NU sendiri. Dengan berpegang teguh pada nilai-nilai keislaman dan prinsip kebersamaan, NU Klaten Utara terus berupaya membangun ekosistem yang mendorong kemajuan sosial dan spiritual bagi umat. Salah satu strategi yang diterapkan adalah penyelenggaraan pengajian rutin, yang tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai wadah pembelajaran agama tetapi juga sebagai sarana mempererat tali ukhuwah Islamiyah di kalangan masyarakat. Selain itu, organisasi ini menjalin kolaborasi dengan berbagai organisasi kemasyarakatan dan lembaga sosial, memungkinkan sinergi dalam upaya pemberdayaan dan pelayanan masyarakat secara lebih luas.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the denotative, connotative and mythological meanings in TikTok content by creator Abir Shagir through Roland Barthes’ semiotic framework. The research is grounded in the growing use of social media, particularly TikTok, as a medium for representing culture and identity through culinary content. This qualitative research employs a descriptive approach, collecting data through observation and note-taking on three selected videos showcasing Middle Eastern culinary practices. The analysis focuses on visual signs such as traditional clothing, national flags, keffiyeh, and food-sharing practices, interpreted within Barthes’ three levels of meaning: denotation, connotation, and myth. The findings reveal that Abir Shagir’s content constructs ideological meanings representing cultural identity, cross-national solidarity, and generosity values. At the myth level, culinary practices transform into instruments of cultural diplomacy and ideological reproduction, affirming the applicability of Barthes’ theory in analyzing visual and symbolic strategies in contemporary digital media. The study concludes that culinary content on social media is not merely a cooking activity but serves as a strategic medium for cultural and political communication.

Abstract

This article explores the contributions of three classical Muslim scholars—Al-Khawarizmi, Al-Biruni, and Ibn al-Haytham—as representations of Islamic intellectualism in the fields of science and technology. Using a historical and descriptive-analytical approach, the study traces the pivotal roles these figures played in laying the foundations of various modern scientific disciplines, including mathematics, astronomy, optics, and the scientific method. Al-Khawarizmi is recognized as the pioneer of algebra and algorithmic thinking; Al-Biruni as a forerunner of empirical research and intercultural religious studies; and Ibn al-Haytham as the founder of experimental methodology in optics. The findings demonstrate that all three exemplified a distinctively Islamic model of knowledge—one that harmonizes rational inquiry with spiritual consciousness. Their intellectual legacies affirm that scientific achievement in Islam is inseparable from ethical values and transcendent goals. This article advocates the revitalization of classical Islamic intellectualism within contemporary science education to cultivate a humanistic, Tawhid-based scientific paradigm. The study also critiques the persisting dichotomy between religious and scientific knowledge that continues to hinder the development of an integrated Islamic epistemology.

Abstract

From ancient times to the present, women have experienced a lot of discrimination. Discrimination against women is very dominant in the film Tangled. This statement attracts attention because women are often considered weak and not respected because women rely on laziness and are rarely free to act. Through the film Tangled by Greno and howard, which is based on the feminist theory of Tong and Botts (2009), this research aims to explore information about the variety of feminism that occurs in the film. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method which is usually as an approach to investigate the phenomenon of social problems. Data was taken from several images, dialogues and monologues from the film Tangled by Greno and howard and then analyzed contextually and theoretically. Researchers found that Radical Feminism was the most common, showing women being oppressed in any situation, liberal feminism also the common, In contrast psychoanalytic feminism is a minor feminism, social action related to a social system that places men as the main power holders and dominates in various roles.

Abstract

This study investigates the role of contemporary Javanese pop music in preserving and transmitting Javanese cultural wisdom, focusing on the works of Ndarboy Genk, a prominent figure in the Javanese modern music scene. The research analyzed the lyrical content of 25 songs written and performed by Ndarboy Genk, including widely recognized tracks such as Wong Sepele, Balungan Kere, Anak Lanang, and Koyo Jogja Istimewa. Using qualitative content analysis supported by theories of cultural preservation and popular discourse, the study examined how traditional Javanese values were embedded and communicated through his lyrics. The findings revealed that Ndarboy Genk’s songs encapsulated a wide range of local wisdom values that reflect Javanese culture's philosophical and ethical dimensions. These included nrimo (acceptance), sabar (patience), andhap asor (humility), teguh ati (emotional resilience), tresna sejati (true love), setya (loyalty), eling lan waspada (mindfulness and caution), and kesederhanaan (simplicity). His lyrics effectively transmit these values to listeners, particularly younger generations through emotionally resonant storytelling and culturally nuanced expressions. Despite the modern and often urban musical style, Ndarboy Genk’s works serve a deeper cultural purpose. The study argues that his music functions not only as entertainment, but as a cultural vehicle that sustains and recontextualizes Javanese identity in the face of contemporary social change. This research highlights the potential of popular music as a medium for cultural education and the preservation of intangible local heritage in modern Indonesia.

Abstract

This study explores Love and Understanding as the reflection of religious moderation in the novel Love from A to Z by S.K. Ali and focuses on how the values of love and understanding influence the characters’ response to prejudice and diversity. This study uses a Qualitative method and applies the theory of Genetic Structuralism by Lucien Goldmann to examine how the author's socio-historical structure as a Muslim woman in the West shapes these values. The findings reveal that Love from A to Z depicts key aspects of religious moderation, including tolerance, anti-violence, acceptance of tradition, and national commitment through the acts of the characters. The study also finds that the author’s identity as a South Asian Canadian Muslim and her experiences in a post 9/11 Western strongly shaped the novel. Muslim authors like S.K. Ali have emerged to promote and convey to the world the true essence of Islam, especially in response to the widespread misunderstandings and misconceptions in the media about Muslims themselves. By examining how moderation is conveyed through narrative, this research highlights the role of literature in promoting understanding across religious and cultural differences.

Abstract

Inappropriate use of language in communication makes literacy teaching difficult for Orang Rimba (hereinafter OR). Teachers must have good language skills and appropriate literacy teaching patterns. Based on data, very few teachers are interested in teaching OR groups due to regional, cultural, and natural aspects. The purpose of this research was to know the role of the local language in the delivery of literacy at school. The type of research was qualitative, using descriptive techniques. In collecting data, researchers used observation, interviews, and documentation. Furthermore, the data analysis technique was a descriptive technique that describes the conditions in the field as they are. The respondent who would be interviewed was 1 teacher. The observation area to be studied was Pematang Kabau village at Bukit Dua Belas. The findings were, first, the teacher who teach at school must be able to use OR Malay dialect because Indonesian or Jambi Malay dialect were quite difficult for them to understand. Second, the proper literacy teaching model was the direct learning model implemented for youth and children. Based on the findings above, it can be concluded that choosing the right language and good communication when teaching literacy at OR group must have their own strategy so that what is conveyed can be well received.
