Abstract

It is descriptive qualitative research examining language deviation phenomena in media. The data are dialogue among the main characters taken from the film. The technique to analyse data based on theory developed by Spradley (2016) consisting domain, taxonomy, componential and cultural theme analysis. The collected data were classified to types of morphological deviation and interpreted based on their communicative functions. The types of morphological deviation found are clipping/informal contraction, neologism, and slang. The findings indicate that morphological deviations play an important role in the film and serve to develop solidarity, emphasize urban masculinity, and convey humour. The study contributes to understanding how current media normalize and share informal language practices. Furthermore, in the context of film industry, this type of language deviation is designed to attract more audiences.

Abstract

The phenomenon of the growing popularity of Arabic pop music in Indonesia's digital space represents contemporary dynamics in the flow of global cultural circulation. It can be seen from several digital platforms in Indonesia that there are many new Arabic pop music sung by famous musicians such as Amr Diab, Nancy Ajram, Elissa, Sherine, and Kadim Al Sahir. Pop culture products that are also on the rise in the Arab world have succeeded in crossing geographical, linguistic and cultural boundaries through the mediation of digital technology. Many platform of Arabic pop lovers were then born, one of which was Arabic Music Lovers Indonesia (AMLI). This in turn creates cross-regional interactions that are increasingly intense and simultaneous. By utilizing Arjun Appadurai's Global Cultural Flows framework which includes ethnoscapes, mediascapes, technoscapes, financescapes, and ideoscapes, this research examines the consumption, distribution, and reproduction practices of Arabic pop music by the Arabic Music Lovers Indonesia (AMLI) community on social media. The research method used is a qualitative approach through netnography to observe online interactions, enriched by interviews with community members. This approach results in a contextual analysis that not only looks at aspects of music consumption, but also the symbolic and ideological meanings attached to these activities. This research reveals that the consumption of Arabic pop music in the AMLI online community operates as a locus of transnational cultural negotiation, where community members utilize mediascapes and technoscapes to access, distribute and reproduce musical content in a participatory manner. This process not only affirms aesthetic appreciation, but also facilitates the articulation of a collective identity that repositions Arab culture and stereotypes as symbols of modernity and cosmopolitanism that were previously considered pejorative.

Abstract

Language holds significant potential as a medium of cultural preservation. In functions not only as a tool of communication but also as a creative means to instill awareness, construct collective memory and strengthen the emotional bond between communities and their cultural heritage. In the context of safeguarding heritage buildings, language serves as an instrument that preserves not only the material aspects but also the symbolic meanings embedded within them. The background of this study stems from the fact that preservation efforts have largely emphasized physical aspects such as conservation and regulation, while the cultural and symbolic dimentions remain less explored. The purpose of this research is to analyze the power of language, both oral and written, in sustaining the existence of heritage buildings through creative, narratives, myths, legends and digital storytelling. The theoretical foundation draws upon Malinowski and Radcliffe-Brown’s functionalist perspective on the social role of myths, Roland Barthes’ semiotics on language as a system of signs, Halbwachs’ concept of collective memory and Edward T. Hall’s theory of cultural communication. This research employes a descriptive qualitative approach using literature review, narrative analysis and case studies of heritage sites such as historical forts and palaces. The findings reveal that language has a persuasive power to foster a sense of ownership, pride and responsibility among communities. Folklore, myths and historical narratives prove effective in raising public awareness, reinforcing collective identity and culvating emotional attachment to heritage buildings. Thus, language fungtions not only as a madium of cultural transmission but also as a cretive and effective strategy for haritage preservation in the modern era

Abstract

Abstract

This academic journal investigates the multifaceted impacts of globalisation and cultural diversity on the elderly population in Indonesia, a nation undergoing significant cultural and societal transformations driven by international interconnectedness. As global influences permeate both urban and rural settings, Indonesia's senior citizens confront distinct challenges related to maintaining cultural heritage, combating social isolation, and adapting to contemporary societal norms. The research scrutinises how globalisation shapes the experiences of Indonesian seniors, with a particular emphasis on cultural adaptation strategies, the dynamics of intergenerational relationships, and access to healthcare services. Through a comprehensive review of both qualitative and quantitative data, this paper aims to illuminate the evolving complexities of ageing within a globalised context. It proposes policy recommendations designed to enhance the welfare of older adults in Indonesia amidst these ongoing changes. This inquiry highlights the necessity of understanding these dynamics to formulate effective interventions that support healthy ageing within culturally diverse and rapidly globalising societies.
