Abstract

Abstract

The article explored the relationship between the use of teaching materials and the role of students with learning achievement during the COVID-19 period. The research was correlational quantitative approach with research subjects at the Mechanical Engineering Vocational School. Collecting data using interviews, documentation, and questionnaires. Pearson Product Moment correlation technique analysis, t-test, and F test, with SPSS software. The results showed that the use of teaching materials is an external factor that supports the effectiveness of student learning outcomes, adds motivation to the spirit of learning, improves skills directly, creates an independent learning atmosphere according to interests, speed and a certain way, was able to independently assess and evaluate the results of using materials. The role of students when learning from home (BDR) was not good enough, caused by various factors, namely the role of educators which must be maximized again, providing motivation and support even though learning was carried out online from home. The role of students, in this case, was actively paying attention to the presentation of learning with modules through the zoom platform, understanding learning materials, summarizing and concluding subject matter, participating actively in asking questions, and responding either individually or in groups. Learning achievement produced by students in the Covid-19 era could not be separated from the effectiveness of using modules, but there were still obstacles experienced by students when learning from home online, less active participation during the learning process, and late in collecting assignments. Abstract

The development of soft skills remains a critical challenge in vocational education, as the curriculum often prioritises technical competencies while neglecting systematic integration of interpersonal skills. This study aims to develop and evaluate the Peer-Engaged Project Application Model (PePA), a project-based learning framework designed to enhance communication, teamwork, and problem-solving through structured peer engagement. Employing a Research and Development (R&D) approach based on the ADDIE model, the research was conducted in the D4 Mechanical Engineering Program at Yogyakarta State University. The PePA model was tested on a group of 15 students in the Fabrication Construction Practices course. Data were collected through Likert-scale questionnaires, structured observations, and semi-structured interviews, and analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics, along with qualitative techniques. The implementation of PePA resulted in improved performance in soft skills, with average scores increasing from 3.03 to 3.65 (communication), 3.20 to 3.78 (teamwork), and 3.13 to 3.70 (problem-solving). The model was also rated as “very valid” by expert evaluators, with an average validation score ranging from 3.58 to 3.85. These findings suggest that PePA is a feasible and effective learning model for strengthening vocational students' soft skills in alignment with industry expectations. The model has potential applicability beyond engineering education and supports policy recommendations for integrating soft skills into vocational curricula.

Abstract

Internships have an important role in the experience, application, and development of student's skills. The implementation of the internship has not been maximally achieved because students have not been given full assignments due to a lack of work skills, self-confidence, and work motivation. This study aims to reveal the effect of internship experience and work motivation on work readiness. Sampling used a random sampling technique and obtained a sample of 94 students of class XI automotive engineering at 5 vocational schools in Yogyakarta. The combination of factor analysis and regression analysis was used to analyze the data using second-order PLS-SEM analysis. The evaluation of the measurement model has met the requirements of the convergent validity test at the outer loading of ≥0.70 and AVE ≥0.50. The discriminant validity has met the requirements of the Fornell-Larcker test. Internal consistency reliability meets the requirements of CA, rho_A, and CR with a score of 0.70. Evaluation of the structural model shows the value of effect size (f2) with a large effect, the determination coefficient (R2) of the variable is 76.20%, and the predictive relevance (Q2) is 58.00%. Hypothesis testing is based on the β-coefficient, ρ-value, dan T-statistic values that have met the cut-off values suggested in the literature. So that all hypotheses Ha is accepted which indicate that there is a positive and significant effect on the internship experience and motivation on student work readiness. There needs to be better efforts to improve internship experience and work motivation so that guidance and supervision from supervising teachers must always be given so that work readiness is more optimal.

Abstract

Education is crucial to national growth. Hence, a Link and Match program to provide work-oriented education is needed. This study uses the CIPP Model to assess the link and match policy between vocational high schools (SMK) and business and industry (DUDI). Four vocational schools located in Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar were studied. Data was acquired through expert-validated questionnaires and observation interviews. Quantitative descriptive analysis was used. The research results show that the link and match policy between SMK and DUDI has been appropriate, with an average score of four categories with appropriate criteria for each aspect. However, the implementation process is still hampered because the Aceh Government has not yet prepared a planned and measurable plan in the Strategic Plan for developing vocational education in Aceh to link and match to a vocational education master plan for long-term educational development. As a relevant stakeholder, the Aceh Education Service should clearly state the concept and measurable targets for developing links and matches in vocational schools, including what programs must be prepared to address the strategic issue of strengthening links and matches, especially in vocational schools with DUDI, to meet needs.
