Abstract

This study focuses on the development of an instrument to assess the effectiveness of experiential-based Islamic learning at the tertiary level. This research is categorized as an instrument development study, with students serving as the respondents. The sampling method employed is a stratified technique, classifying students based on their experience and participation in experiential-based Islamic religious learning. A total of 93 students from undergraduate programs in Islamic Religious Education and Sharia Banking were deemed eligible to participate. The study successfully developed a quality instrument for measuring experiential-based learning, validated through construct analysis, as well as assessed for reliability. The instrument demonstrates a high validity (0.813) and good reliability (0.909). It is supported by the identification of key components that constitute experiential-based Islamic learning (EBL), which are categorized into three aspects: independence (SD), problem-solving (PCO), and experience as a learning resource (ELS). The results indicate a favorable tendency toward the successful implementation of each aspect. Based on these findings, it is recommended that educators focus on improving the design, execution, and evaluation of the learning process. Future researchers are encouraged to develop measurement models for assessing material understanding within the context of experiential learning.

Abstract

School is a formal institution that is the right place for students to develop their potential. National education aims to provide space and educational materials for every student, including slow learner students. Religious education material is one of the materials that must be provided. This research aimed to describe the learning strategies used by religious teachers to slow learning students. This qualitative research used a narrative approach. There were eight participants: Islamic religion teachers, special guidance teachers and two school principals. Data collection through in-depth interviews and analysis with the stages of data reduction, presentation and interpretation. This research found peer teaching and repetition models to be the main learning models. It was consistent with the character of slow-learner students with below-average cognitive abilities. Slow learner students tend to accept material slowly and repeatedly. They were also more comfortable when being taught by peers because, psychologically, they felt the same age. Meanwhile, the biggest obstacle for slow learner students in learning was limited cognitive ability, unstable concentration power and negative image of parents towards children's abilities. The findings of this study are interesting to be used as a reference for teachers and parents in educating slow learner children.

The selection of participants was based on criteria that had been determined purposively, namely from Islamic colleges, experienced social problems in particular and data could be taken. The data collection technique used in-depth interviews in accordance with the interview instrument guidelines that had been made. The data analysis technique went through three stages, namely reduction, data presentation and data interpretation to draw conclusions. The research findings lead to three conclusions. First, the impact of the pandemic is the loss of enthusiasm for learning or learning loss. Second, socially, the impact of the pandemic causes psychosocial problems, namely they tend to be aloof or introverted. Third, after the pandemic, most of the students are already comfortable with their conditions during the pandemic, so they experience laziness and boredom to carry out activities directly. The results of this study still have many weaknesses, especially in the selection of respondents who are still limited and data mining and analysis. Subsequent research will be urgently needed to provide more comprehensive reinforcement and additional results.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic posed significant challenges for private schools in Indonesia, particularly in terms of financial stability, declining student enrollment, and weakened institutional management. This study investigates how adaptive and transformational leadership was implemented to manage crisis conditions at Muhammadiyah Junior High School 10 (SMP Muhdasa) in Yogyakarta, with a focus on the leadership practices of a newly appointed female principal. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through field observations, in-depth interviews with the principal, and analysis of school documents between January and March 2024. The data were analyzed using Gadamerian hermeneutics to explore leadership strategies in a crisis context. Findings show that the principal employed adaptive and transformational leadership marked by participatory communication, strategic decision-making, and stakeholder engagement. Internally, the school’s resilience was supported by a strong organizational culture, inclusive team dynamics, and spiritual motivation. Externally, collaboration with Muhammadiyah networks, parents, and community stakeholders played a crucial role in supporting the school’s recovery and innovation efforts. The study highlights that effective crisis leadership is not only managerial but also deeply rooted in value-based, inclusive, and collaborative approaches. The principal's integration of spiritual values, philanthropic programs, and digital transformation fostered institutional resilience. This case provides a reference model for school leaders navigating educational crises through adaptive and transformational leadership.
