Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between intrinsic motivation and academic procrastination among high school students. Although academic procrastination is a common phenomenon, most previous studies have focused on university students, making research at the high school level still limited. This research employed a quantitative approach with a correlational method. The sample consisted of 163 eleventh-grade high school students selected through simple random sampling. The measurement instruments used were an intrinsic motivation scale and an academic procrastination scale. The intrinsic motivation scale consisted of 18 items, while the academic procrastination scale consisted of 19 items. Both instruments had been tested for validity and reliability, with item validity scores > 0.300 and Cronbach’s Alpha reliability coefficients of 0.898, respectively. Data analysis was conducted using Spearman’s Rho correlation with the assistance of SPSS 25 software.The results revealed a significant negative relationship between intrinsic motivation and academic procrastination, with a correlation coefficient of -0.762 and a significance value of p < 0.05. This means that the higher the students’ intrinsic motivation, the lower their tendency to delay academic tasks. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for high schools in developing learning strategies that can enhance students’ learning motivation to reduce academic procrastination behavior. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji hubungan antara motivasi intrinsik dan prokrastinasi akademik pada siswa SMA. Meskipun prokrastinasi akademik merupakan fenomena umum, sebagian besar studi sebelumnya lebih berfokus pada mahasiswa, sehingga penelitian pada tingkat sekolah menengah masih terbatas. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode korelasional. Sampel dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 163 siswa kelas XI SMA  yang dipilih dengan teknik simple random sampling. Alat ukur yang digunakan adalah skala motivasi intrinsik dan skala prokrastinasi akademik. Skala motivasi intrinsik terdiri dari 18 item, sedangkan skala prokrastinasi akademik terdiri dari 19 item. Kedua instrumen tersebut telah diuji validitas dan reliabilitasnya, dengan hasil validitas item > 0,300 dan reliabilitas Cronbach’s Alpha masing-masing sebesar 0,898. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan korelasi Spearman-Rho dengan bantuan software SPSS 25. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya hubungan negatif yang signifikan antara motivasi intrinsik dan prokrastinasi akademik, dengan nilai koefisien korelasi sebesar -0,762 dan nilai signifikansi (p < 0,05). Artinya, semakin tinggi motivasi intrinsik yang dimiliki siswa, maka semakin rendah kecenderungan mereka untuk menunda tugas-tugas akademik. Temuan ini diharapkan dapat menjadi acuan bagi pihak SMA dalam mengembangkan strategi pembelajaran yang mampu meningkatkan motivasi belajar siswa guna menekan perilaku prokrastinasi akademik.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between emotion-focused coping (EFC) and academic stress among high school students. The novelty of this study lies in its participant context, as most previous research has focused on university students, while studies on the effectiveness of EFC among secondary school students remain limited. A quantitative approach with a correlational design was employed, involving 200 students from grades 10 and 11 at a public senior high school selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using the Student-Life Stress Inventory and the Ways of Coping Questionnaire. The results showed a significant positive correlation between EFC and academic stress (r = 0.237; p = 0.001). Theoretically, these findings support the stress-coping model by Lazarus & Folkman (1984), suggesting that emotion-focused strategies, when not accompanied by problem-solving approaches, may exacerbate stress perceptions. Practically, the results highlight the need for counseling interventions that go beyond emotional release, emphasizing the development of active coping skills and problem-focused strategies in the school environment. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara emotion focused coping (EFC) dan stres akademik pada siswa SMA. Kebaruan penelitian ini terletak pada konteks partisipan, karena sebagian besar studi sebelumnya lebih banyak berfokus pada mahasiswa, sementara penelitian mengenai efektivitas EFC pada siswa sekolah menengah masih terbatas. Studi ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain korelasional, melibatkan 200 siswa kelas X dan XI dari sebuah SMAN yang dipilih melalui teknik simple random sampling. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan Student-Life Stress Inventory dan Ways of Coping Questionnaire. Hasil analisis menunjukkan adanya hubungan positif yang signifikan antara EFC dan stres akademik (r = 0,237; p = 0,001). Secara teoretis, temuan ini mendukung model koping stres Lazarus & Folkman (1984) bahwa penggunaan strategi EFC yang tidak diimbangi dengan pemecahan masalah dapat memperburuk persepsi stres. Secara praktis, hasil ini mengindikasikan pentingnya intervensi konseling yang tidak hanya mendorong pelampiasan emosional, tetapi juga pengembangan keterampilan koping aktif dan problem-focused coping di lingkungan sekolah.

Abstract

Adolescents living in orphanages face more complex psychological challenges, such as limited emotional support, the absence of primary caregivers, and a highly regulated social environment. These conditions often trigger stress and shape the coping strategies they adopt. This study aims to identify the dominant coping stress strategies used by adolescents in Orphanage X, addressing a research gap since previous studies have largely focused on students and working adults rather than institutionalized adolescents. A descriptive quantitative design was employed, involving 120 adolescents selected through total sampling. The instrument used was a coping stress scale consisting of two dimensions: problem-focused coping and emotion-focused coping. The results showed that most adolescents used emotion-focused coping at a moderate level (60.8%), higher than problem-focused coping. These findings highlight that adolescents in orphanages rely more on emotional regulation strategies rather than direct problem-solving. The practical implication of this study is the need for structured interventions, such as psychoeducation, group counseling, and emotional regulation training, to enhance adaptive coping skills and promote psychological well-being among institutionalized adolescents. ABSTRAK Remaja yang tinggal di panti asuhan menghadapi tantangan psikologis yang lebih kompleks, seperti keterbatasan dukungan emosional, kehilangan figur pengasuh utama, dan lingkungan sosial yang penuh aturan. Kondisi ini dapat memicu stres dan memengaruhi strategi coping yang digunakan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi strategi coping stress yang dominan digunakan oleh remaja di Panti Asuhan X, sekaligus menutup kesenjangan penelitian karena studi sebelumnya lebih banyak berfokus pada mahasiswa dan pekerja dewasa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif deskriptif dengan melibatkan 120 remaja melalui teknik total sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah skala coping stress yang terdiri dari dua dimensi utama: problem-focused coping dan emotion-focused coping. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar remaja menggunakan emotion-focused coping pada kategori sedang (60,8%), lebih tinggi dibandingkan problem-focused coping. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa remaja panti lebih mengandalkan pengelolaan emosi dibandingkan penyelesaian masalah secara langsung. Implikasi praktis dari penelitian ini adalah perlunya program intervensi berbasis psikoedukasi, konseling kelompok, dan pelatihan regulasi emosi untuk meningkatkan strategi coping yang lebih adaptif dan mendukung kesejahteraan psikologis remaja di panti asuhan.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the increasing increase in cyber bullying and the negative impacts it causes. This research aims to develop a cyberbullying measurement instrument using a mixed methods approach involving three stages. Theme exploration stage, namely the qualitative stage with open questionnaire data collection techniques to explore themes surrounding Cyberbullying. At this stage the data analysis technique applied is open coding (65 participants). The testing stage is the content validity stage where the instrument is assessed by experts using the Aiken formula. This stage also includes factor analysis with an exploratory factor analysis (EFA) approach which helps identify the factorial structure underlying the instrument, relationships between items, and grouping items based on dimensions (270 participants). Scale validation stage where at this stage confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was carried out to test and validate the factorial model identified through EFA (789 Participants). Sampling technique uses convenience sampling technique. The results of the research show that based on the CFA test, the cyber bullying scale showed that all items had loading factor values >0.5 and construct reliability >0.7, as well as AVE results >0.5, so that all the items used were forming factors of the latent variable. The items used are valid and reliable items so they can be relied upon as research measuring tools. Reliable Cyberbullying measurement instruments can more precisely identify cyberbullying behavior and thus can assist in a better understanding of this phenomenon, so that prevention and intervention efforts can be targeted more effectively.
