Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms and strategies of integrating the values of Islam Rahmatan lil ‘Alamin (Islam as a mercy for all creation) in the learning process at Madrasah Tsanawiyah. Islam Rahmatan lil ‘Alamin emphasizes the principles of compassion, justice, tolerance, and balance in life. In the context of Islamic education, these values are essential to be internalized so that students not only gain knowledge but also develop noble character and a moderate attitude in practicing their faith. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach with data collected through classroom observation, teacher interviews, and document analysis. The results indicate that the integration of Rahmatan lil ‘Alamin values is implemented through: (1) thematic learning that links lesson content with universal Islamic values; (2) teachers’ exemplary attitudes and behavior; and (3) habituation of good morals through religious activities in the madrasah. The implications of this study highlight that Islamic education plays a strategic role in shaping a generation that is knowledgeable, moderate, and possesses commendable character.

Abstract

Globalization and advances in information technology have brought significant changes to the world of education, including Islamic education. Rapid modernization demands that Islamic educational systems adapt while preserving their core Islamic values. This study aims to analyze the process of Islamization of knowledge within the context of globalization and to examine the role of Integrated Islamic Schools (Sekolah Islam Terpadu/SIT) as an educational model that integrates general and religious knowledge. Employing a qualitative approach through library research, this study reviews relevant literature on the Islamization of knowledge, the history of Islamic education, and the development of the SIT model in Indonesia. The findings indicate that Integrated Islamic Schools emerged as a response to the long-standing dualism between religious and general education. The SIT model integrates the national curriculum with Islamic values through contextual, dialogic, and character-based learning approaches. Consequently, the Islamization of knowledge in the era of globalization can be realized through an educational design grounded in tauhid, oriented toward character formation, and adaptive to technological advancements

Abstract

Globalization has become an inevitable phenomenon in the modern era. Advancements in information and communication technology, increased human mobility, and intensive cross-cultural interactions have ushered the world into a period of openness and rapid transformation. Islamic education, as a crucial element in shaping the character and identity of the Muslim community, is likewise affected by these global dynamics. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method to analyze the impact of globalization on Islamic education. Data were collected through a literature review of scientific journals, books, and relevant articles published within the last five years. This approach aims to understand the phenomenon of globalization within the context of Islamic education and to identify the challenges and opportunities it presents. The collected data were thematically analyzed to provide a comprehensive overview of globalization’s influence on Islamic education and potential solutions to address emerging issues. The findings indicate that the Islamization and integration of knowledge, along with the utilization of modern technology, play significant roles in the development of Islamic education in the contemporary era. Islamization and integration efforts seek to harmonize scientific knowledge with Islamic spiritual and moral values, resulting in a holistic curriculum that combines religious studies with science and technology. Meanwhile, technologies such as e-learning platforms, artificial intelligence (AI), and digitalization of the Qur’an and Hadith enhance accessibility and efficiency in Islamic learning. Challenges—including technological dependence and low digital literacy—must be addressed through strengthening Islamic identity, improving educators’ competencies, and ensuring proper content supervision. With an appropriate approach, Islamic education can remain relevant, inclusive, and adaptive without compromising its spiritual foundations.

Abstract

This This study aims to describe the implementation of religious activity programs in Islamic junior high schools (Madrasah Tsanawiyah) in developing students’ emotional intelligence and discipline. Religious activities such as shalat dhuha, tahfiz al-Qur’an, muhadharah, and mabit are integral parts of character education based on Islamic spiritual values. Through these activities, students are trained not only in cognitive and spiritual aspects but also in emotional control, responsibility, and discipline in fulfilling their obligations. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, using observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. The results indicate that religious activities significantly contribute to improving students’ emotional intelligence, as reflected in their ability to control emotions, respect others, and remain calm in facing challenges. Furthermore, students’ discipline increases through the structured and continuous routines of religious programs. Therefore, the implementation of religious activities in Madrasah Tsanawiyah is proven effective in fostering students’ religious, emotional, and disciplinary character formation.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development and dynamics of government policies toward Islamic education in Indonesia from the Old Order and New Order periods to the Reform era. Each period demonstrates distinct policy directions shaped by the political, social, and ideological context of its time. Using a library research method, this study examines primary and secondary sources, including books, legal regulations, and scientific articles related to the history of Islamic education. The findings reveal that during the Old Order period, government policies focused on recognizing and establishing the Ministry of Religious Affairs as the institution responsible for managing Islamic education. In the New Order era, policies shifted toward integrating madrasahs into the national education system, exemplified by the 1975 Joint Decree of Three Ministers. Meanwhile, in the Reform era, the government broadened its recognition of Islamic educational institutions—such as pesantren and majelis taklim—through Law No. 20 of 2003 on the National Education System. Overall, government policies across these periods demonstrate continuity and positive transformation in the recognition, development, and legitimization of Islamic education in Indonesia. Abstract

Islamic education in the modern era faces foundational problems, namely a crisis of value foundations, shifts in spiritual orientation, and epistemological fragmentation between religious sciences and general sciences. These issues create an imbalance in forming individuals who are faithful, knowledgeable, and virtuous. This article aims to conceptually analyze a new direction for the development of Islamic education through the maqāṣid al-syarī‘ah approach as a solution to these foundational crises. This study employs a qualitative method using a library research approach. The primary data sources are classical and contemporary literature on Islamic educational philosophy, theories of maqāṣid al-syarī‘ah, and issues of modernity in education. The findings indicate that maqāṣid al-syarī‘ah can serve as a paradigm for the reorientation of Islamic education because it integrates spiritual, intellectual, moral, and social dimensions. The application of values such as hifẓ al-dīn (preservation of religion), hifẓ al-‘aql (development of intellect), and hifẓ al-nafs (protection of life) becomes the foundation for establishing a holistic education system that is relevant to contemporary challenges. Thus, a maqāṣid al-syarī‘ah-based approach is not only capable of strengthening the philosophical foundations of Islamic education but also provides a new direction for shaping insān kāmil in the modern era.

Abstract

The digital era has brought significant changes to children’s behavior and morality. Unlimited access to information often leads to a decline in character values and spirituality among younger generations. This study aims to develop a character education program that is relevant to the needs of children in the digital age in order to strengthen their morals and ethical conduct. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach using literature review and document analysis techniques. Data were collected from various scholarly sources such as journals, books, and recent research reports. The findings indicate that character education becomes effective when integrated with digital technology through contextual approaches, project-based learning, and digital role modeling. Strengthening religious values, responsibility, empathy, and digital ethics forms the main pillars in program development. The conclusion of this study highlights the importance of synergy between families, schools, and communities in fostering virtuous character in children amidst the challenges of the digital world.
