Abstract

Facing future challenges requires various skills to achieve success, one of which is metacognitive skills. Therefore, the use of science-based learning in the learning process not only aims to improve student learning outcomes, but also to empower their metacognitive skills. This research aims to determine the effect of using Problem Based Learning (PBL) on the metacognitive and learning outcomes of class VIII students at SMP Negeri 37 Samarinda.  This type of experimental research uses quantitative methods in the form of a quasi experimental design type, the pretest posttest control group design. The population in this study were all class VIII students at SMP Negeri 37 Samarinda. Sampling used a purposive sampling technique using classes according to the researcher's needs with a sample size of 48 students. The instrument analysis technique uses construct validity and reliability tests, while the analysis of research results uses the N-gain test, normality test, homogeneity test, and Wilcoxon test with a significance level of 5%. The results of data analysis show that the average value of students' metacognitive indicators after being treated in the experimental class was 80.67 in the very good category, while the control class was 79.58 in the good category. The average posttest score for experimental class learning outcomes was 69.82, while the control class was 38.02. The N-gain metacognitive questionnaire test in the experimental class was 0.27 in the low category, while the control class was 0.08 in the low category. The experimental class had an N-gain value for the cognitive learning outcomes test of 0.46 in the medium category, while the control class was -0.01 in the low category. The Wilcoxon test results on the metacognitive questionnaire and learning outcomes show the Asymp value. Sig. (2 tailed) of 0.000, this value is smaller than 0.05 so it can be concluded that there is an influence of the use of Problem Based Learning (PBL) on metacognitive and cognitive learning outcomes of class VIII students at SMP Negeri 37 Samarinda on the human excretion system material.  Keywords: Problem Based Learning, Metacognitive, Learning Outcomes

Abstract

The quality of products produced by students has not fully met the standards and needs of the business and industrial world. Therefore, the implementation of Teaching Factory learning as a production-based learning approach in vocational schools is needed. This study aims to describe the management of Teaching Factory learning in improving the quality of student products in the Department of Fashion Design and Production at SMK Negeri 1 Sangatta Utara. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Research informants consisted of the principal, vice principal for curriculum, head of department, production unit coordinator, productive teachers, and students. The results show that Teaching Factory learning management is implemented based on the 7M components: Man, Money, Material, Machine, Method, Market, and Minute, integrated into management functions of planning, organizing, implementing, and supervising. Planning is carried out through curriculum synchronization with industry needs and the application of a block system. Organizing involves clear task distribution, while implementation engages students in the full production process according to industry procedures. Supervision is conducted through monitoring and quality control with industry partners. The implementation of Teaching Factory improves product neatness, technical precision, production time efficiency, and conformity with market standards. Thus, it contributes positively to improving the quality of student products.

Abstract

Abstract

This study was motivated by the importance of strengthening character education at the elementary school level as a foundation for developing students' personality, morality, and social responsibility amid the challenges of globalization, the influence of digital media, and the decline of moral values. The study aimed to analyze the principal's management model in implementing a deep learning–based curriculum to strengthen students' character, including aspects of planning, organizing, implementation, supervision and evaluation, as well as supporting and inhibiting factors. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving the school principal, teachers, and parents as research informants. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing using triangulation techniques. The results of the study indicate that the principal's management model is implemented through integrated management functions. In the planning stage, the principal builds a shared understanding of deep learning–based learning and aligns curriculum documents with character development goals. In the organizing stage, the principal optimizes school resources through the establishment of a curriculum team, the distribution of teachers' roles, and the involvement of parents as educational partners. The implementation of learning is carried out through project-based activities, reflection, and collaboration that encourage the development of values such as responsibility, empathy, discipline, cooperation, and independence among students. Supervision and evaluation are conducted continuously through classroom observations, review of teaching documents, student portfolios, and feedback from parents. The success of the implementation is supported by adaptive leadership of the principal, teacher commitment, and collaboration among school members, while the obstacles include variations in teachers' readiness, limited facilities and infrastructure, limited instructional time, and the geographical conditions of the school.
