Abstract

Constraints and guidelines on subtitle translation impose demanding tasks on machine translation systems, hence the urge to control translation output from machine translators. Unlike conventional machine translation, text-generating artificial intelligence such as ChatGPT can produce controlled translations that satisfy subtitle translation guidelines. Thus, this study aims to maintain the quality of subtitle translation while limiting character length to keep subtitles compact. The study employed a descriptive-comparative analysis to examine the differences between a plain prompt and a properly designed prompt. The prompts used in this study included details such as contextual information, target audience specifications, formal language requirements, character-length limitations, prohibition on altering sentence order, and illustrative examples. This study utilized 50 subtitle segments from the film Mufasa: The Lion King (2024) and implemented four prompt types: Plain Prompt, Zero-Shot Prompt, One-Shot Prompt, and Few-Shot Prompt. Translation quality was measured using COMET, BERTScore, and chrF++. Scores from these metrics showed improvement, with the Few-Shot Prompt reaching 89.920, 88.830, and 59.904, respectively, while the Plain Prompt yielded only 89.000, 85.806, and 55.767. The findings also revealed a reduction in character count, with the Plain Prompt generating 1,834 characters and the Few-Shot Prompt generating 1,377. These results indicate that the Few-Shot Prompt produces higher-quality translations and maintains greater compactness compared to the Plain Prompt.

Abstract

Promosi memiliki peranan penting dalam pengembangan pariwisata karena dapat memberikan informasi dan pemantapan image kepariwisataan guna meningkatkan kunjungan wisatawan. Berbagai elemen yang mendukung kesiapan destinasi wisata premium serta kegiatan G20 dan ASEAN Summit di Kabupaten Manggarai Barat perlu dipersiapan secara matang. Salah satu persiapan yang bisa dilakukan oleh pemerintah setempat adalah dengan berbagai pemanfaatan teknologi yang inovatif dan kreatif. Pada era revolusi industri 4.0, masyarakat dihadapkan pada pemanfaatan digitalisasi dalam kehidupan sehari-hari dengan menafaatkan kecanggihan teknologi. Pemanfaatan e-map yang disisipkan dalam booklet sebagai media promosi berbasis responsible tourism di Kabupaten Manggarai Barat perlu dibentuk karena konsep ini menggabungkan peranan teknologi sebagai media promosi pariwisata dengan tetap menjunjung tujuan kesadaran berwisata yang berkelanjutan, bertanggung jawab, dan membantu membangun hubungan baik antara pemerintah, masyarakat local, dan wistawan dalam mencegah kerusakan destinasi wisata yang ada di Kabupaten Manggarai Barat secara bersama-sama.

Abstract

Morphological awareness (MA) has relation to language development. Most of Informatics students class of 2017 in Politeknik Kota Malang are lack of MA especially in vocabulary and reading comprehension. Therefore, this present study is aimed at developing instructional game “Adventure of Word” to improve morphological awareness. This is Research & Development study which used Lee & Owens’ development model. From the result of expert validation, from media expert it got 96.8% and from media/design expert it got 78.7%. As those results, the product is categorized as ‘valid’. After the product has been validated, the next step is try-out to the students. It got 96.6% which meant the product is classified as ‘excellent’. It can be concluded that the product was well-developed as instructional media to teach morphology explicitly so that can help students to improve their morphological awareness especially in root word, prefix, suffix, and circumfix.

Abstract

A preliminary study has found that Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) grantees faced a variety of challenges during their IISMA program at the destination universities. Therefore, this study aims to develop and implement a global literacy (GL) framework to help IISMA students improve their GL competence to survive during their stay in host universities. Ten IISMA awardees studying at one of the state universities in Malang, Indonesia, participated in this study. A qualitative mixed-method design was applied. The data were collected through FGDs, questionnaires, and in-depth interviews. Using a descriptive qualitative analysis, this study proposes a practical framework to aid IISMA students in improving their global literacy competence. The findings were in the form of an instructional framework that can be maximally applied by those who need to prepare students for the IISMA program. It is envisaged that this study can aid in developing GL competencies, enabling subsequent students to fulfill their responsibilities as change agents from a global viewpoint. The framework created in this study provides pedagogical implications for re-creating a subject-specific curriculum that incorporates student practice in GL. The study

Abstract

Legal translation requires students to transfer linguistic meaning while also recognizing the legal function of specialized terms, archaic connectors, foreign expressions, and system-bound concepts. This study examines how undergraduate and postgraduate students at Universitas Brawijaya handled these problems by answering three research questions: whether their overall legal translation quality differed significantly, what translation techniques appeared in their renderings, and why they chose particular translation strategies. Using a mixed-methods comparative design, 34 undergraduate students and six postgraduate students completed a 26-sentence English-Indonesian legal translation task drawn from the Corpus of Contemporary American English and structured around Haigh’s legal-text peculiarities. The final statistical comparison included 33 undergraduate and six postgraduate participants. Translation quality was assessed by two evaluators using an adapted rubric based on Nababan et al. (2015), translation techniques were classified using Molina and Hurtado Albir’s (2002) taxonomy, and six participants were interviewed to examine reported decision-making. The postgraduate group achieved a higher overall mean score (M = 224.750, SD = 12.7701) than the undergraduate group (M = 209.788, SD = 16.8741), and the Mann-Whitney U test showed a significant difference between the groups (p = 0.009 0.05). Six techniques were identified: literal translation, amplification, borrowing, modulation, established equivalent, and adaptation, with literal translation occurring most frequently. Interview data showed that students’ choices were shaped by familiarity with legal terminology, contextual checking, and limited exposure to authentic legal translation practice. The study’s distinctive contribution lies in linking statistical quality differences, micro-level technique selection, and students’ reported reasoning within the same legal translation task. This combined perspective shows that literal translation is not inherently weak or strong; it is appropriate when it preserves legal meaning, but insufficient when legal expressions require contextual or legal adjustment.
