Abstract

Daycare centres (TPA) play an essential role in supporting mothers in caring for their children, especially for working mothers. Daycare centres are one of the alternatives for mothers to replace their role in caring for their children while they are at work. However, TPA is often a place where the transmission of infectious diseases such as diarrhoea, respiratory infections, and other diseases occurs quickly due to close interaction between children. Therefore, preventing the transmission of infectious diseases in TPA is an important step to prevent stunting. In addition, monitoring of children's growth has yet to be done routinely in the TPA. The purpose of this community service is to increase knowledge for mothers and landfill managers in preventing transmission of infectious diseases and monitoring the growth of toddlers, as well as practical steps in maintaining the personal hygiene of children and the environment and the availability of educational media in the form of posters, leaflets and videos. The targets of the service are mothers of toddlers and landfill managers. The service method provides education, distributes hygiene tools, and provides educational media, namely posters, leaflets, and videos. The evaluation was carried out by distributing questionnaires before and after counselling. The service results showed increased knowledge of mothers of toddlers and landfill managers. The results of growth monitoring show that participating toddlers have good nutritional status and can practice hand washing properly. Although there are obstacles, such as the limited number of participants, this activity positively impacts increasing awareness about stunting prevention. The subsequent development is to expand the reach of education by involving more TPAs and introducing digital monitoring methods through applications to monitor children's growth. Support from relevant agencies is needed to ensure the sustainability of the programme.

Abstract

Air quality problems that occur in the world today are always associated with the development of large cities and almost no large city in the world is free from symptoms of air pollution. The level of air quality is getting lower day by day due to high levels of air pollution. Pekanbaru City is one of the cities in Indonesia that is prone to air pollution. This research aims to analyze the incidence of the Air Pollution Standard Index (ISPU) as information on air quality in Pekanbaru City. The research method used was collecting primary and secondary data through informants. The research was conducted at the Pekanbaru City Environment and Hygiene Service. Data were analyzed using the fishbone method and the Urgency, Seriousness, Growth (USG) method. The research results show that forest fires are the main priority problem which causes the air pollution standard index (ISPU) in Pekanbaru City to be in the medium category. The conclusion of this research is that forest fires often occur in Pekanbaru City which then causes smog and disrupts air quality, increases pollution levels, and increases the risk of respiratory problems.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to enhance hygiene and sanitation knowledge among drinking water depot operators in the working area of Rumbai Bukit Public Health Center, Pekanbaru. Through the training conducted, participants are expected to meet the requirements to obtain hygiene sanitation certificates from the Health Department. Methodology: The methodology employed is a collaborative approach, where drinking water depot operators are invited to participate in training that includes both theory and practice of sanitation. This training involves experts from the local Public Health Center at Puskesmas Rumbai Bukit. Results: The results indicate that the training was attended by 90% of the invited operators, with an average pre-training evaluation score of 60%, which increased to 78% post-training, reflecting a 21% improvement in knowledge. Conclusions: The training on sanitation hygiene in drinking water depots conducted at Puskesmas Rumbai Bukit, Pekanbaru, proved effective in improving participants' understanding, as seen from the increase in the average score from 60% (pre-test) to 78% (post-test). The high participation rate (90%) indicates the community's enthusiasm and need for increased knowledge in this area. Limitations: However, there are challenges in participation due to the self-funded nature of the training and some operators considering the certification process too complicated. Contribution: The contribution of this research is expected to provide recommendations for raising awareness of the importance of hygiene sanitation in drinking water depots and to support public health policies. Thus, this activity not only benefits the participants but also the wider community through the provision of safer and higher-quality drinking water.
