Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2022, exclusive breastfeeding globally will reach 40%, but still has not reached the target to be achieved, namely above 50%. One of the significant factors that challenges and hinders the practice of exclusive breastfeeding is low birth weight (LBW) babies. The physical difficulties of LBW babies, such as limited ability to suck and swallow, make the breastfeeding process more complicated and tiring. Mothers' concerns about the health of LBW babies can be an emotional factor that influences the decision to provide exclusive breastfeeding. Method: This systematic review aims to identify the experience of providing breast milk (ASI) to mothers who have low birth weight (LBW) babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The search used relevant databases from Pubme, Wiley online library, Science Direct, and used Google Scholar gray literature. Article search keywords are written using Boolean, MESH and Truncation. The keywords used in searching for articles are Experience OR Opinion* AND Giving Breast Milk* AND Low Birth Weight* AND Neonatal Intensive Care Unit* the author added a filter for the last five years (2019-2023). Result: The final result of selecting articles that were suitable for use for the scoping review was 8 articles. The experience of providing breast milk (ASI) to mothers with low birth weight (LBW) babies who are treated in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a complex journey. In the context of self-efficacy, emotional support, information from medical personnel, the mother's understanding of the baby's condition, and self-strengthening strategies are the main pillars in forming the mother's confidence to provide breast milk effectively.

Abstract

Abstract

Data show that 60% of children aged 2 to 14 have experienced physical punishment from their parents. Based on data from the Simfoni PPA KemenPPPA (Online Information System for the Protection of Women and Children), in 2023, there were 29,884 cases of violence recorded throughout Indonesia. Objective: This study aimed to enhance the parenting skills of prospective parents in the Bantul region to prevent the use of negative disciplinary methods on children. This study employed a mixed-methods design with a Sequential Explanatory approach. The quantitative phase used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest design, involving 37 prospective parents as the sample. The qualitative phase utilised Participatory Action Research, recruiting a sample of 5 couples of prospective parents, 2 counsellors, and 1 policy maker. The average attitude score of prospective parents before the intervention was 62.11, which increased to 80.38 after the intervention. A significant p-value of 0.000 < 0.05 indicates the rejection of the null hypothesis. This implies that the intervention concerning negative disciplinary measures on children has a significant impact on the attitudes of prospective parents. Conclusion: Several challenges faced by prospective parents in enhancing parenting skills include a lack of experience in child-rearing, mental unpreparedness for parenthood, and limited time due to work and other activities. The government needs to formulate policies that encourage positive parenting approaches and non-violent discipline, and launch awareness campaigns to educate the public about the dangers of negative disciplinary measures and the importance of positive parenting methods.

Abstract

Stunting is a significant public health issue and the prevalence of stunting in Indonesia was reported at 21.6% in 2022. This study used a mixed-methods approach. The qualitative component employed a single-case embedded study design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews involving 15 participants and analyzed by using a thematic approach using NVivo-12. Meanwhile, the quantitative component utilized a one-group pre-test post-test design involving 155 respondents, data were gathered using questionnaires and were analyzed using paired t-tests with SPSS-26.Participants had a lack of knowledge about stunting. However, they acknowledged various healthy nutrition and health programs for stunting prevention. There were also various programs managed by local government involving multisector bodies, and communities focusing on reducing stunting prevalence. However, there were expectations to strengthen the program strategies by providing home visits, online educational media, adequate facilities, and infrastructure within Integrated Community Services (ICS (Posyandu)). The paired t-test revealed a significant average difference between pre-test and post-test values, with a mean difference of 1.167 and a p-value of <0.008. The ongoing stunting alleviation program demonstrates the government’s commitment to multi-sectoral collaboration and the use of educational media, such as videos, significantly enhances respondents’ knowledge about stunting.

Abstract

Introduction: In this study, we aimed to identify the needs for interactive educational media to optimize fathers’ involvement during the maternal-perinatal period in Yogyakarta. With evidence showing that paternal engagement contributes significantly to maternal well-being, child development, and family health outcomes, our objective was to explore the specific barriers and preferences of expectant fathers to address gaps in current health education strategies that remain largely mother-centered. Methods: This qualitative study employed focus group discussions with midwives and in-depth interviews with expectant fathers and mothers at public health centers in Yogyakarta (July–August 2025). Participants (6 midwives, 10 fathers, 10 mothers) were purposively recruited to ensure variation in socioeconomic and educational backgrounds. Data collection proceeded until thematic saturation was achieved. Transcripts were coded inductively and analyzed thematically using NVivo, applying constant comparison across cases. Credibility was enhanced through iterative refinement of codes. Ethical clearance was obtained from the Health Research Ethics Committee of UNISA Yogyakarta (Ref No.4601/KEP-UNISA/VI/2025); all participants gave written informed consent. Results: The primary outcome was the identification of fathers’ educational needs during the maternal-perinatal period. Four themes emerged from data analysis and revealed; limited access to practical; father-focused learning resources; cultural barriers due to patriarchal norms; and a strong preference for interactive and technology-based media such as mobile applications, simulations, and audiovisual content Conclusion: This study underscores the need for father-focused, context-specific educational media. Findings suggest incorporating mobile-based modules featuring short videos, simulations, gamified content, and blended online-offline practice. Such designs can possibly strengthen paternal confidence and engagement, enhancing maternal well-being and infant outcomes while informing innovative perinatal health promotion strategies in similar contexts.
