Abstract

This research aims to determine the effectiveness of TGT type cooperative learning based on CRT (Culturally Responsive Teaching) on science material at Surakarta Muhammadiyah Middle School. This research method is quasi-experimental research, with a sample of 42 students, data collection techniques using tests (post-test), interviews and observation. The data analysis technique for cognitive learning outcomes is in the form of a t test and affective learning outcomes in the form of descriptive statistics. The research results show that t test results with a significance value of 0.000 <0.05, then there is an effect of TGT type cooperative learning based on CRT (Culturally Responsive teaching) on the learning outcomes of seventh grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Surakarta.. Thus, it can be concluded that the application of the TGT type cooperative learning model based on CRT (Culturally Responsive Teaching) in science material in class VII SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Surakarta is included in the effective category.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model in improving students’ scientific literacy. The research method used is pre-experimental with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research sample consists of 32 seventh-grade students from class VII F, selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data collection techniques include a scientific literacy test conducted at the beginning and end of the study, supplemented by interviews with biology teachers regarding the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning model. The results of the study indicate a significant improvement in students’ scientific literacy after the implementation of the PBL model. The average pretest score of 64.72 (categorized as Moderate) increased to 83.25 (categorized as Very High) in the posttest. The distribution of scientific literacy improvement shows that 31.25% of students experienced a high increase, 59.38% a moderate increase, and 9.38% a low increase. These findings suggest that PBL enhances students’ understanding of scientific concepts, particularly in problem-solving and scientific data analysis. Thus, it can be concluded that Problem-Based Learning (PBL) is an effective teaching method for improving students’ scientific literacy.

Abstract

Biology learning is the mastery of collecting knowledge information in concepts, principles, and facts, as well as learning and comprehending how the process of acquiring knowledge is achieved directly through the practicum. Physical and social skills can be developed through the use of practicum activities as a learning supplement. The implementation of practicum activities must be supported by a high-quality laboratory infrastructure. The laboratory equipment and infrastructure of Cal must comply with the laboratory requirements outlined in Permendiknas Number 24 of 2007. The research aimed to determine the quality of infrastructure facilities and the readiness of biology laboratories to support learning at SMA Negeri 1 Cawas. This research is qualitative descriptive research through observation, interviews and documentation. The results showed that the quality of biological laboratory infrastructure based on Permendiknas Number 24 of 2007 was included in the perfect category with an average percentage of 95%. Meanwhile, laboratory readiness obtained an average readiness percentage value of 92%, including in the ready category, so the biology laboratory in this school is ready to be used to support learning.

Abstract

Science learning is still something that students avoid because it requires perseverance, seriousness, and many experiments. This problem can be overcome using interactive learning media and following the independent curriculum. However, learning media must align with technological developments in this digital era. Therefore, with the flipped classroom learning model, one uses Instagram social media as a science learning medium. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of flipped classroom learning with Instagram media on ecology and biodiversity class VII material in one of the junior high schools in Klaten Regency. This quantitative experimental study uses the N-Gain Score test with a one-group pretest-posttest design to measure the improvement of cognitive learning outcomes before and after. The results showed that the application of flipped classroom learning assisted by Instagram media on ecology and biodiversity material on student learning outcomes was included in the practical category with an interpretation of the N-Gain value of 0.77.

Abstract

Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in learning biology helps students in solving a problem, because with PBL students learn from problems or cases that exist around us, this can affect student learning outcomes. This study aims to determine the application of the Problem Based Learning model to student learning outcomes on ecosystem material. The research method used was experimental research with Post-test Only Control Group Design, the research was conducted in class X of one of the high schools in Pacitan Regency. Data collection techniques in the form of tests conducted at the end of treatment (post test) both control class and experimental class. The results showed that the application of the Problem Based Learning model on ecosystem material had an effect on learning outcomes where the t test results counted 6.066 > t table 3.218, meaning that there was an average difference learning outcomes in control and experimental classes. It can be concluded that there is an effect of using the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model on learning outcomes in ecosystem material.

Abstract

Abstract

Higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) are crucial in science education, yet students often struggle to master them, particularly in complex topics such as vibrations and waves. This study aimed to evaluate the HOTS performance of 165 eighth-grade students from five schools in Purbolinggo Sub-district, East Lampung, using a two-tier multiple-choice test analyzed through the Rasch Measurement Model. The test consisted of 12 items, each with a content question and a reasoning tier, adapted from Treagust (1988) and validated through expert judgment. Rasch analysis indicated that most students demonstrated low HOTS ability, especially in the creating domain (C6), involving generating novel ideas or solutions. In contrast, analyzing (C4) and evaluating (C5) were relatively easier but still reflected limited mastery. The highest difficulty appeared in questions requiring divergent thinking and complex synthesis. Item fit statistics showed good instrument validity (person reliability = 0.93; item reliability = 0.83). These findings highlight the importance of implementing learning strategies that foster creativity and synthesis, such as problem-based learning or project-based approaches. The study was limited to one geographic area, which may restrict generalizability. Future research should explore broader contexts and incorporate qualitative data to deepen understanding of HOTS development in science.
