Abstract

The current investigation addresses the urgent need for effective counter-narrative strategies against the proliferation of digital extremism. This article analyzes the Hubb Literacy Model implemented by contemporary pesantren as a concrete framework for teaching compassion, tolerance, and religious moderation to safeguard the digital landscape. Utilizing a qualitative case study design, the inquiry involved in-depth interviews with spiritual leaders and students, participant observation, and a comprehensive analysis of curriculum documents at Pesantren Darussalam Blokagung. The findings reveal that the Hubb Literacy Model effectively mitigates extremism through five strategic pillars: the integration of digitalized classical texts (Kitab Kuning), the production of Tawassuṭ (moderate) social media content, the critical filtering of extremist narratives through the Uswah (exemplary) guidance of the Kiai, the institutionalization of Hubb (love) as a daily soft-skill curriculum, and the strengthening of the "Big Family" analogy as a psychological barrier. The present analysis contributes a practical "Digital Era Hubb Literacy" framework that bridges gaps in current literature, providing a viable model for educational institutions and policymakers to formulate values-based counter-narrative strategies in the modern era

Abstract

This study analyzes the effectiveness of digital storytelling based on the folklore "Malin Kundang" in improving the understanding of moral values, bilingual communication skills, and digital skills of elementary school students in SK Senawang, Seremban, Malaysia. The program was designed using a Participatory Action-Based Learning approach and an Experiential Learning framework that emphasizes hands-on experience, reflection, and digital content production. A total of 100 students aged 10–12 participated in animation screenings, bilingual discussions (Malay-English), creative workshops, and moral retelling and reflection activities. Data were collected through observation, visual documentation, student work, and teacher interviews, then analyzed descriptively and qualitatively through source triangulation. The results indicate that digital storytelling effectively clarified understanding of moral values through visualization of conflict and consequences, increased students' confidence in using English through familiar story contexts, and developed creativity and digital literacy through drawing, animation, and voice-over activities. The program also strengthened teachers' pedagogical capacity and institutional collaboration as a model for culture- and technology-based education relevant to the Southeast Asian region.

Abstract

This study aims to examine internal quality assurance as an ideology constructed through instrumental rationality and to analyze its implications for educational management, pedagogical practices, and student learning experiences. Employing a qualitative approach within an interpretive paradigm, this study explores how quality assurance is socially constructed and enacted in school management. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with school leaders, teachers, and administrative staff, participatory observations, and document analysis. The data were analyzed thematically to identify patterns related to managerial rationality, quality discourse, and pedagogical consequences. Trustworthiness was ensured through source and method triangulation, informant verification, and contextual interpretation. The findings reveal that internal quality assurance is predominantly framed as an administrative and symbolic mechanism to achieve institutional legitimacy. Quality management practices emphasize documentation, reporting, and quantitative indicators, while pedagogical depth and student learning experiences receive less attention. This technocratic orientation constrains teacher autonomy, limits pedagogical innovation, and creates tensions between managerial accountability and instructional responsiveness. The study highlights the need to reform quality assurance systems in educational management by balancing administrative compliance with pedagogical development, empowering teachers, and repositioning student learning experiences as the core objective of quality improvement.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the application of Appreciative Inquiry (AI) based on the local wisdom of traditional Islamic boarding schools (pesantren salaf) as a strategy to improve the quality of sustainable education. The study uses a qualitative approach with an ethnographic design conducted at Pondok Pesantren Salafiyah Asy-Syafi’iyyah Darul Qur’an. The ethnographic approach is used to capture in depth the daily practices, cultural values, and the underlying meaning in the formation and maintenance of educational quality in the life of the pesantren. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and document studies involving key informants, including the guiding clerics (kiai), pesantren administrators, senior religious teachers (guru ngaji), and senior students (santri). Data analysis was carried out interactively through the processes of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions, while data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation, extended researcher participation in the field, as well as member checking. The study results show that the quality of education in traditional Islamic boarding schools (pesantren salaf) is not understood as adherence to formal standards, but rather as a form of collective reflective awareness rooted in the tradition of kitab discussions, halaqah, the exemplary leadership of kiais, the value of sincerity, and khidmah. Appreciative Inquiry does not appear as a formal managerial model, but transforms into a covert cultural practice that integrates into the social structure of the pesantren, thus allowing quality improvement to occur contextually, evolutionarily, and sustainably without provoking cultural resistance. This study contributes to the development of Islamic education quality management discourse by offering a quality improvement model that is sensitive to local culture and aligns with the identity of traditional pesantren.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the shift of accountability for the quality of Islamic education into the digital public sphere through citizen journalism practices and the dynamics of social media sentiment. The research uses a qualitative approach with an interpretative paradigm and employs descriptive-analytical research methods. Data were collected through digital observation (netnography), documentation of social media content, in-depth interviews with pesantren leaders, social media managers, parents of students, and alumni, as well as literature studies. Data analysis was conducted thematically, combined with qualitative sentiment analysis. Meanwhile, the validity of the data was maintained through source and data triangulation. The research results show that social media has become a social evaluation mechanism that influences the formation of perceptions, trust, and the reputation of Islamic educational institutions. Experience-based citizen journalism practices encourage transparency, public participation, and more open accountability, where institutional legitimacy no longer rests solely on administrative aspects, but on the construction of collective opinion in the digital space. This study contributes to strengthening the perspective of social accountability in the management of the quality of Islamic education in the digital era.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the mechanisms and processes of positive culture construction through the practice of "Servant Love" leadership in a madrasah environment. This objective is motivated by the need to unpack the "black box" of social processes linking leadership actions to sustainable cultural change, which has so far remained understudied. The study used a qualitative approach with an intrinsic case study design in one madrasah led by a figure who implements the Servant Love principle. Data were collected through triangulation of passive participant observation techniques, in-depth semi-structured interviews with the madrasah principal, teachers, staff, and students, and analysis of related documents. Data were analyzed interactively and thematically. The results revealed three key mechanisms (1) Operationalization of Servant Love as a "Present-Serving Leader" through physical and emotional presence that builds trust; (2) Transformation of decision-making into a collective learning and empowerment ritual that fosters a sense of agency and we-ness; and (3) Reframing conflict as a momentum for "relationship building" that builds organizational resilience and solidarity. These findings provide a process map showing how micro-practices of love and service-based leadership actually shape the norms, values, and interaction patterns that build a positive madrasah culture.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and formulate the Quality Guerilla Marketing Model as a branding strategy for the distinctive advantages of salaf Islamic boarding schools in facing competition with formal educational institutions. This research is motivated by the challenges of salaf Islamic boarding schools in communicating their substantive quality in the midst of the dominance of educational institutions that rely on formal promotion and modernization of the system. The research uses a qualitative approach with the type of case study carried out at the Salafiyah Syafi'iyah Islamic Boarding School Sukorejo Bangorejo Banyuwangi. Data collection techniques include in-depth interviews, participant observations, and documentation studies, while data analysis is carried out using the Miles and Huberman interactive model with data validity checks through triangulation of sources and techniques. The results of the study show that the branding of salaf pesantren is built through substantive qualities that are alive in daily educational practices, strong cultural relations, and the authority of kiai as the main social legitimacy. In addition, pesantren implement selective adaptation to modern technology and systems as a competitiveness strategy without eliminating the identity of the salaf.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and interpret the meaning of the religious teaching profession in facing the dynamics of global quality demands through a philosophical hermeneutic approach. The study employed a qualitative approach with a case study conducted at Al-Fath Islamic Junior High School in Pare, Kediri. Data collection techniques included in-depth interviews, participant observation, documentation, and audio analysis to comprehensively capture the experiences and meaning-making processes of religious teachers. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which encompasses data reduction, data presentation, and reflective conclusion drawing. Data validity was checked through triangulation of sources, methods, and observers to ensure the validity and credibility of the research findings. The results indicate that the meaning of the religious teaching profession has shifted from a doctrinal role to an interpretive and reflective role. Religious teachers are understood as facilitators of meaning who bridge religious teachings with socio-global realities, while simultaneously navigating the tension between local-religious values and global quality demands. The professionalism of religious teachers is defined as a continuous process of meaning-making supported by self-reflection, pedagogical adaptation, moral role modeling, and a synthesis of spiritual and global competencies.
