Abstract

The challenges of modernization that threaten local wisdom necessitate an in-depth study of the Madurese tradition of Tedung e Bedhih, which has not been widely analyzed from a cultural ecology perspective. This tradition is a form of local wisdom that has profound meaning in terms of health, spirituality, and ecological sustainability, utilizing sand that contains natural elements such as calcium oxide, zinc, and copper, which are believed to have therapeutic benefits, such as warming the body and relieving joint pain, and relying on natural heat energy from the sun stored in the sand as a substitute for modern technology. This study aims to explore the reasons behind this practice and how this tradition maintains the ecological and spiritual balance of the local community. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study analyzes the relationship between the tradition of sleeping on sand and the surrounding environmental conditions and how this practice reflects a lifestyle that is in harmony with nature. The subjects consisted of three key informants from Leggung Timur Village to ensure depth and diversity of data. The results of the study show that this tradition is not only a form of habit, but also has deep ecological value and contributes to the sustainable preservation of sand resources. Although modernization threatens its sustainability, this tradition reflects the community's knowledge system. The subjects consisted of three key informants from Leggung Timur Village to ensure the depth and diversity of the data. The results of the study show that this tradition is not only a custom, but also has profound ecological value and contributes to the sustainable preservation of sand resources. Although modernization threatens its continuity, this tradition reflects the knowledge system of coastal communities, which represents the knowledge and practices of coastal communities that reflect an awareness of living in harmony with nature and utilizing resources wisely.

Abstract

This study analyzed tourist destinations as learning resources to support contextual and meaningful learning. This qualitative study used the SLR (Systematic Literature Review) model. The Research data were sourced from scientific articles published from 2021 to 2025. Data collection techniques were carried out through searches of Google Scholar, Springer, Emerald, ProQuest, JSTOR, Taylor & Francis, ScienceDirect, and SAGE Journals. The final analysis included 17 journal articles and 2 proceedings. The results showed that tourist destinations play an important role in supporting contextual and meaningful learning. By utilizing tourist destinations, students can relate lesson materials to their surroundings and interact directly with the phenomena and values of the environment. Therefore, students can improve their cognitive knowledge, critical thinking skills, environmental awareness, culture, and local potential. In conclusion, tourist destinations can serve as learning resources, supporting contextual and meaningful learning activities through direct observation and by connecting subject matter to real-life situations. This study suggests that tourist destinations can serve as learning resources, supporting contextual and meaningful learning that strengthens 21st-century skills. This study adds to the literature on meaningful learning and contextual learning for students through learning resources in the form of tourist destinations.

Abstract

In geography education in Indonesia, students' spatial thinking skills are generally assessed as still low due to the limited application of spatial approaches, both in the form of learning activities and the utilization of media in instruction. This study aims to develop StoryMaps as an innovative instructional media that integrates geospatial narrative maps to enhance students' spatial thinking abilities on the topic of flora and fauna distribution. A Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE framework which encompasses Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation was employed in this study to develop and validate the product. The research findings indicate that the intervention of StoryMaps media in geography learning results in differences in students' spatial thinking skill levels. This condition is evident from the post-test scores of spatial thinking skills in both classes, which showed a difference of 6.03%, with the experimental class average outperforming the control class by 5.32 points. Pedagogically, this reflects a stronger impetus for deeper spatial concept understanding and sustained knowledge retention through the application of StoryMaps instructional media. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the use of StoryMaps media effectively improves students' spatial understanding of the taught geography material. Through the development of this instructional media, it is expected that students will gain more engaging and realistic experiences, thereby enhancing their motivation and comprehension of the learning material.

Abstract

While traditional instruction often relies on linear narratives, this study examines how Prezi’s dynamic contextualized through localized flood phenomena in Kediri City enable students to synthesize multi-dimensional environmental risks and adaptation strategies. The research addresses the critical gap in contextual disaster education within the flood-prone Brantas watershed. Adopting a systematic 4D developmental methodology (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate), the study encompasses a rigorous needs analysis, instructional design, and empirical trials. The sample involved 32 Grade XI students at SMAK St. Augustinus Kediri and a panel of expert validators. Data were synthesized through Likert-scale questionnaires and qualitative expert feedback to evaluate pedagogical validity and the resultant cognitive transitions. Empirical findings identify a distinct cognitive shift 87% of students demonstrated an advanced ability to correlate Kediri’s flat topography with local inundation susceptibility. Beyond surpassing the 80% validation threshold from subject-matter and media experts, the framework significantly increased active participation in spatial discussions. Participants successfully mapped connectivity between upstream land-use transformations in the Brantas watershed and downstream urban flood risks. The Prezi-based media optimizes geospatial literacy by utilizing a navigation architecture that visualizes the complex connectivity between regional hydro-spatial dynamics and local vulnerabilities. This facilitates a transition from passive consumption to applied spatial reasoning, effectively supporting the Independent curriculum’s objectives. The media demonstrates high pedagogical utility, subsequent iterations should enrich narrative depth and increase the complexity of evaluative tasks to optimize long-term knowledge retention.
