Abstract

Indonesians must have high literacy to know about the disasters around them. There needs to be a learning model to improve disaster literacy. One of the alternatives is the Problem-based learning model with Root Cause Analysis. This research is a quantitative type of pseudo experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design where the pretest-posttest results of the experimental class and control class are compared to determine the effectiveness of the treatment in the experimental class. There are no particular specifications regarding the characteristics of the class used in the study. Data analysis used a sample t-test supported by prerequisite tests such as homogeneity and normality tests. The PBLRCA model has a significant effect on students' disaster literacy skills. The results showed increased literacy skills at a t value of 5,787. Steps such as independent review, investigating the root of the problem, and implementing action plans that can make PBLRCA students read, explore and analyze situations in depth more than Lecturing Method. These activities make students' disaster literacy improve.

Abstract

The failure of top-down conservation in natural resource management continues to provoke resistance led by local communities. This study analyzes how the coastal community of Torosiaje constructs a polycentric governance system through collective action in response to ecological crises and to the state's appropriation of living space, aiming to achieve blue justice in the management of marine and coastal resources. The complex, polycentric governance in joint management involves various actors, including the state, local communities, and the private sector, who collectively play active roles in decision-making for sustainability. Meanwhile, blue justice requires the fair distribution of natural resources and ecosystem benefits, which is pursued through the collective struggle of the community against ecological injustice. Using social movement and political ecology theories as an analytical framework, this research redefines Community-Based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM) as a more inclusive and responsive model to local dynamics. A qualitative case study design was employed through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis, which were subsequently analyzed thematically. The findings reveal that integrating local knowledge and formal rules, embodied in the paddakuang and sipakullong conservation groups, results in a more adaptive and just CBNRM model in response to resistance. Cross-village collaboration, participatory ecotourism, and culture-based education strengthen the socio-ecological dimensions of this polycentric governance. This study contributes theoretically by applying social movement theory to redefine successful CBNRM. It argues that sustainable governance is a political outcome shaped by community resistance to ecological injustice and state dispossession, rather than merely a technical model.

Abstract

Mapping the Mount Lawu hiking trail via Babar using a Geographic Information System (GIS) to support special interest tourism The popularity of Mount Lawu hiking as a special interest tourism has increased. Mount Lawu is a popular destination for hikers because of its natural beauty, history, and culture. Popular hiking trails are via Candi Cetho and via Cemoro Sewu. However, in 2019, a new alternative hiking trail was available, namely the Babar hiking trail, managed by the Wono Tirto Forest Village Community Organization (LMDH). The Babar hiking trail has the advantage of a lower slope than other trails, and there are several relic sites of the Majapahit kingdom along the hiking trail. The Babar hiking trail has not had an appropriate map of the hiking trail since its opening. This research aims to produce a Geographic Information System (GIS)-based digital map that provides information on special interest tourism hiking trails (Mount Lawu hiking) in supporting mountaineering management. The method used in this research is Participatory GIS (P-GIS) with an LMDH officer. Data was collected through ground surveys with the Avenza Maps application, and analyzed using Quantum Geographic Information System (QGIS) to produce digital maps. The resulting hiking trail map is equipped with necessary information, including Basecamp, post, shelter, water point, site point along the trail, peak, distance, and estimated travel time. The map can be accessed offline for navigation and location tracking. This digital map makes it easier for hikers to navigate and plan, reducing the risk of accidents during mountain hiking activities. Popularitas wisata minat khusus pendakian Gunung Lawu mengalami peningkatan.

Abstract

The challenges of modernization that threaten local wisdom necessitate an in-depth study of the Madurese tradition of Tedung e Bedhih, which has not been widely analyzed from a cultural ecology perspective. This tradition is a form of local wisdom that has profound meaning in terms of health, spirituality, and ecological sustainability, utilizing sand that contains natural elements such as calcium oxide, zinc, and copper, which are believed to have therapeutic benefits, such as warming the body and relieving joint pain, and relying on natural heat energy from the sun stored in the sand as a substitute for modern technology. This study aims to explore the reasons behind this practice and how this tradition maintains the ecological and spiritual balance of the local community. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study analyzes the relationship between the tradition of sleeping on sand and the surrounding environmental conditions and how this practice reflects a lifestyle that is in harmony with nature. The subjects consisted of three key informants from Leggung Timur Village to ensure depth and diversity of data. The results of the study show that this tradition is not only a form of habit, but also has deep ecological value and contributes to the sustainable preservation of sand resources. Although modernization threatens its sustainability, this tradition reflects the community's knowledge system. The subjects consisted of three key informants from Leggung Timur Village to ensure the depth and diversity of the data. The results of the study show that this tradition is not only a custom, but also has profound ecological value and contributes to the sustainable preservation of sand resources. Although modernization threatens its continuity, this tradition reflects the knowledge system of coastal communities, which represents the knowledge and practices of coastal communities that reflect an awareness of living in harmony with nature and utilizing resources wisely.

Abstract

In geography education in Indonesia, students' spatial thinking skills are generally assessed as still low due to the limited application of spatial approaches, both in the form of learning activities and the utilization of media in instruction. This study aims to develop StoryMaps as an innovative instructional media that integrates geospatial narrative maps to enhance students' spatial thinking abilities on the topic of flora and fauna distribution. A Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE framework which encompasses Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation was employed in this study to develop and validate the product. The research findings indicate that the intervention of StoryMaps media in geography learning results in differences in students' spatial thinking skill levels. This condition is evident from the post-test scores of spatial thinking skills in both classes, which showed a difference of 6.03%, with the experimental class average outperforming the control class by 5.32 points. Pedagogically, this reflects a stronger impetus for deeper spatial concept understanding and sustained knowledge retention through the application of StoryMaps instructional media. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the use of StoryMaps media effectively improves students' spatial understanding of the taught geography material. Through the development of this instructional media, it is expected that students will gain more engaging and realistic experiences, thereby enhancing their motivation and comprehension of the learning material.
