Abstract

Bank BTPN has a unique program called Daya aiming to grow the business of its MSME customers by giving free regular and systematic business trainings. The question is how effective is the Daya program in improving the business of its MSME customers. The effectiveness is shown by comparing business performances of participating MSME customers with non-participating ones. The study had been undertaken in 12 BTPN working areas by surveying 545 numbers of participants and 111 numbers of non-participants. The results showed that the Daya program had a positive direct impact on MSMEs' business variables such as turnover, operational cost and customers' business growth index (CBGI), especially at the micro-enterprises category. Indirectly, the trainings also have a good impact on MSME's family and environment reflected by changes in household expenditure (family) and number of employees (environment). Finally, the Daya program's has improved the quality of business practices of participating MSMEs in the aspects of managing finance, marketing, sales, human resources, operations and soft-skills. Abstract

Over the last few years, Indonesian Islamic banking has experienced positive development, but there has been a dramatic dip in the growth of the assets and deposits of commercial Islamic banks. This indicates possible inefficiencies in these banks, and the sharp decline in the growth of their assets needs to be assessed in terms of efficiency and Islamic values, which are considered to be able to enhance performance. This research examines conventional and Islamic bank performance in terms of efficiency with data envelopment analysis (DEA) and the maqasid shariah index (MSI) with simple additive weighting (SAW) analysis, using data from fourteen commercial Islamic banks and four commercial conventional banks over the period 2007 to 2018. The results show that conventional banks were more efficient than Islamic ones, except in the financial crisis period, when the efficiency of Islamic banks was higher. In addition, the maqasid shariah index of conventional banks was lower than that of Islamic ones, although the index for Islamic banks was still very low. Furthermore, the study also found that the greater the level of total assets, the higher the maqasid shariah. Keywords: banking performance, commercial islamic banks, efficiency, maqasid shariah index

Abstract

The construction of a crusher system is a very important sequence in the underground mining stage. Therefore, the delays in completing construction will have a negative effect on production achievement. Of the three crusher systems with a capacity of around 2,500 tons per hour that have been completed to support the development of a new underground mine at PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI), two of them have experienced a delay in completion of more than one month while the remaining one was completed faster. This study aims to assess the risk of delays in the construction of a crusher system in PTFI’s underground mine. The risk of delay was identified and registered from the history of the construction reports of the three previous crusher systems. Then the opinions of 35 selected experts are collected to provide an assessment on four scales of both consequences and likelihood scores. This expert assessment is used for risk analysis to determine the severity level of each risk. The result of this study identified 79 risks of delay in the construction of a crusher system in PTFI’s underground mine which can be grouped into five categories: 16 risks related to work area, 8 risks related to construction drawing, 22 risks related to materials, 3 risks related to administration, and 30 risks related to resources. From the results of risk analysis and evaluation, it was found that 17 risks of high severity delays required risk treatment: 1 risk in the work area, 11 risks to material, and 5 risks to resources. In very specific projects such as the construction of a crusher system in a remote underground mine, the risks related to materials and resources management are of high severity impact for project delays. Abstract

One Way to maintain the stability of banking industry is by applying the deposit insurance scheme. The application of the deposit insurance scheme has an impact by increasing the level of bank deposits. The objectives of the research are to identify the factors affecting the level of deposits of Islamic banks in Indonesia and managerial implications regarding to the functions of Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS). The technique used is the panel data regression with fixed effect model using the data from the 11 Islamic banks for the period of 2011 -2015. The results show that the factors affecting the level of deposits of the Islamic banks in Indonesia significantly and positively include the size of banks and their non-performing financing (NPF); however, they influence the capital negatively. Based on these results, LPS is required to build or sharpen the surveillance systems as part of its early detection by doing the mapping based on the size and to monitor the bank capital structure and bank finance portfolio structure.DOI: 10.15408/aiq.v9i2.5156

Retail industry is an industry whose business activities provide products in the form of goods and or services to individuals, themselves, families or households. In the past few years there have been many closures of retail outlets in Indonesia. Data collected from 2013 to 2017 and analyzed using panel data regression with three approaches Altman, Springate and Zmijewski. All companies experienced a decline in financial performance. The factors that influence the condition of financial distress are net profit margin, current ratio, size of firm and total asset turn over.
