Abstract

The ineffective use of conventional student worksheets for learning fi’il madli among ninth-grade students at a Madrasah Tsanawiyah in Malang has resulted in limited comprehension and underutilization of technological tools, with 78.9% of 50 students experiencing learning difficulties and 90% scoring below the Minimum Completion Criteria. To address this problem, this study developed and evaluated SAMIL, a teaching material based on multiliteracy learning and Augmented Reality (AR), aimed at improving students’ understanding of fi’il madli. The research applied the Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, consisting of five stages: analyzing learning needs, designing teaching material concepts and instruments, developing the product, implementing product trials, and evaluating each stage. Quantitative data were gathered through needs analysis, expert validation scores, and responses from teachers and students, while qualitative data were obtained from classroom observations, interviews, and expert suggestions. The quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and the qualitative data were interpreted using descriptive methods. The findings indicate that SAMIL achieved validation scores of 84.45% from subject matter experts, 91.47% from media experts, 90.28% from teachers, and 90.33% from 24 student users. These results demonstrate that the SAMIL materials are both feasible and practical for use in Arabic language instruction. Moreover, the integration of multiliteracy and AR in the teaching materials offers an engaging and interactive learning alternative that addresses students’ difficulties in mastering Arabic verb structures, thus contributing to more effective and technology-supported learning experiences in secondary-level Arabic education.

Abstract

The Merdeka Curriculum encourages a more adaptive and learner-centered learning approach, one of which is through differentiated learning. This approach is important in learning Arabic which requires mastery of complex skills such as listening, speaking, reading and writing. This study investigates the implementation of differentiated instruction within the Merdeka Curriculum at Islamic high school Darul Faqih Malang, with a focus on examining the instructional strategies employed by teachers, as well as identifying the opportunities and challenges encountered in practice. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive methodology, With case study research type. Data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews with Arabic language teachers, and analysis of instructional documents. The data were then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The findings reveal that instructional planning is conducted systematically, guided by the formulation of learning outcomes, learning objective pathways, and the use of contextual and adaptable teaching modules. Instructional delivery is tailored through student grouping based on learning preferences, the application of active learning strategies such as discussion and problem-based learning, and the integration of Pancasila student profile values. Teachers’ strategies encompass diagnostic assessment, peer tutoring, the use of varied instructional media and methods, and intensive mentoring. Despite challenges related to students’ diverse backgrounds, motivation levels, and infrastructural limitations, differentiated instruction fosters an inclusive, collaborative, and transformative learning environment. This study contributes valuable insights into the practical effectiveness of differentiated instruction in Arabic language education under the Merdeka Curriculum framework. Abstract

The Arabic language plays a crucial role in Islamic education, particularly in understanding Islamic sciences. However, traditional teaching methods often lack innovation, resulting in challenges such as limited vocabulary acquisition and insufficient speaking practice. This study examines the implementation of the Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) method in Arabic language instruction at Pesantren Tahfizh Al-Bassam. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, this research explores CLIL implementation strategies, challenges encountered, and its impact on students. The findings indicate that CLIL enhances Arabic language skills, both oral and written, while also accelerating vocabulary acquisition and improving comprehension of Islamic studies. Pesantren strategies include teacher training, CLIL integration into the curriculum, and project-based assessments such as Arabic-language drama performances and short video production. While CLIL proves effective, challenges remain, including a shortage of qualified teaching staff and a lack of instructional materials. To address these issues, Pesantren organizes intensive teacher training and incorporates artificial intelligence (AI)-based technology into learning. This study concludes that CLIL is an innovative and effective approach to improving Arabic language education in Pesantren. With adequate support, this method has the potential to become a standardized approach to Arabic instruction in Islamic educational institutions.

Abstract

Background: In today’s era, where critical thinking and problem-solving are vital competencies, the integration of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) into educational resources, particularly textbooks, has become an important benchmark for quality learning. Aims: This study aims to identify HOTS exercises in Arabic textbooks of Madrasah Aliyah class X published by Quadra in 2022 in terms of Bloom's revised taxonomy theory at the cognitive level of C4, or Analysing, C5, Evaluating, and C6 Creating. Methods: This research employs document analysis techniques (content analysis) within a qualitative descriptive approach to examine the object in depth using primary data. The researcher directly observed the book's content and analysed the HOTS elements in the exercise questions. These were then categorised according to the levels of the revised Bloom's Taxonomy, and conclusions were drawn based on the classifications. Results: The results reveal that although HOTS elements are present in each theme, they are relatively few. The distribution shows C4 (2.4%), C5 (5.2%), and C6 (9.1%), indicating a predominance of LOTS (Lower Order Thinking Skills) over HOTS. Implications: The findings imply the need for improvement and development of question exercises in Arabic textbooks to include aspects of higher order thinking skills (HOTS), especially at the C4 (analyze), C5 (evaluate), and C6 (create) levels, in order to support more critical, analytical, and creative learning in accordance with the demands of the 21st century curriculum.

Abstract

Arab students learning Indonesian often struggle to memorize new vocabulary, even though vocabulary is the foundation of language. This challenge is exacerbated by the lack of engaging learning media tailored to everyday contexts. This study aimed to improve students' vocabulary mastery by using interactive PowerPoint slides. Conducting two cycles, the Classroom Action Research (CAR) involved participants from the Indonesian Language and Literature (BIPA) class at Malang State University to assess the impact of this new medium. The instruments used included written tests, direct observation, questionnaires, and other supporting documents. The final analysis revealed significant results: the average score jumped from 56.2 in the pre-test to 78.6 in the post-test in the second cycle, and the completion rate increased from 40% to 88%. Students responded positively, reporting that interactive PowerPoint slides increased motivation and engagement during the lesson. These findings suggest that slides designed for everyday contexts may be a strategic alternative for teaching Indonesian vocabulary to non-native speakers.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe (1) a beginner-level Indonesian language textbook for Arabic speakers, (2) the effectiveness of a beginner-level Indonesian language textbook to improve Arabic speakers' vocabulary comprehension. This study was a type of experimental research before the experiment involving a single-group pretest-posttest design. The results showed that (1) this beginner-level BIPAR book consists of five chapters covering important topics in daily life, such as introductions, family, daily activities, traveling, and food and drinks, (2) The pretest results showed that the average initial ability of participants was below the expected standard (average score of 48.07 with the highest score of 87 and the lowest score of 20). However, after learning using the BIPAR book, the posttest results showed a significant increase with an average score of 84.20 (the highest score of 100 and the lowest score of 67). This increase reflects the effectiveness of the textbook in improving participants' understanding. The results of the statistical test using the paired sample t-test method showed a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores. With a t-count value of -9.668 which is greater than the t-table, and a significance value of 0.000, the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. This shows that the use of the BIPAR Beginner Level textbook has a significant influence in improving the language skills of training participants.
